Updated Bowl Projections

****, I'd take anything on the ******* East Coast.

Just no El Paso, Shreveport, or god**** Detroit please.

Who cares? 10 years of ****** meaningless bowl games.

While I'd normally agree, playing in a J-ville or Orlando bowl game might be good for recruiting, and the program as a whole.

When it comes to winning out, I'll believe it when I see it, but a decent bowl game is still on the table, if they do. If you remember, in 1999, after frustrating close losses to three teams (Penn State, FSU, and a team from the Carolinas, no less), and then a route at Virginia Tech, the season ended on a positive note with 3 straight wins followed by a win over Georgia Tech in Jacksonville. Be nice if history repeated itself, even a little.

This.

8-4 would virtually guarantee that, especially since Notre Dame won't be picking off an ACC bowl game and Duke will prolly not be bowl eligible so the Tobacco Road ******s won't be able to weasel their way into a decent bowl game like they did last year.

We played in bowl games in Orlando under Shannon and Golden. Didn't mean anything for recruiting or the program as a whole. Best case scenario you win a meaningless game. Worst case scenario you embarrass yourself on national tv. Second tier bowl games is filler for ESPN. They don't help financially, with recruiting, player development etc.

The fact that Golden and Shannon were bad football coaches had a lot to do with that. A good bowl win under a good head coach is a momentum builder for the program. Winning out and winning our bowl to finish 9-4 would be a great way to finish off this season and would be a good indicator of improvement. Right now that should be the unquestioned goal. There is absolutely no reason we shouldn't be able to win out and create some legitimate excitement about the direction of this program with prospective recruits. There is also no reason why we shouldn't have a top 10 class. The staff must keep this team focused on finishing strong.

And we also lost those games. Taken in an of itself it might not mean much but capping the season on a high note with national exposure may help with some recruits, also the extra practice time bowl games afford helps the rebuilding process. You have to look at it in big picture terms. Going to a bowl, any bowl, has better potential in benefits to the program than not.
