Update on Transfer DE's

Thanks for the info but nothing new. It’s up to Manny to clear the commitment from these 2 players.
Also for Phillips his desire to play football is another deciding factor.

Need to get all 3 Phillips for sure. Bogle and hill

I’m all in on Hill. JJ took our friendly transfer from Maryland after he was dismissed from team for throwing some other student out of a window, if I remember. Phillips is a medical question and we have no luck with that, so I’d tread softly there.

There's no chance Manny passes up on either if everything checks out in the vetting process. Oh man! Talk about a shot in the arm? If coach Diaz really makes this happen, the buzz and overall excitement for and around this program will go through the roof.

Assuming that we land both Phillips and Hill I still take Boykin amd Bogle.

So @Stefan Adams if we land Hill and Phillips, I assume Boykin and Bogle are still takes? That's some serious talent and depth on the defensive side of the ball if we land all four of them and amazing considering how bad our class was looking just a month ago. Unreal work by Manny and the staff to pick up the pieces and bring in such a premier transfer class to make up for the recruiting shortcomings of the prior regime.

Appears Manny would take both unless there is something serious unsrrn problem off field or injury wise. Should be scholly space for both HS players also. Believe Manny and defensive staff was part of prior staff and glad to see making up for recruiting shortfalls earlier through the portal.

How do we figure out if Phillips is fit to play?

Has to be some kind of physical he'd need to pass like in the NFL. If he passes that and is able to sit down with coaches and convince them he's ready to play again, I'd take him in a heartbeat.

Phillips injuries are not a ploy. That's ridiculous. There is nothing stopping him from leaving and Chip Kelly can't do anything about it.

Exactly. If he doesn’t like Chip Kelly, he can just leave. No reason to say he’s retiring unless he felt he meant it.

My daughter played three sports most of her teenage years, including all through high school and had multiple concussions. They suck. There is most definitely a protocol. Maybe Phillips had some residual affects from the second concussion - headache, light sensitivity, etc. Maybe his family was just being cautious given the heightened awareness of long term affects and made him shut it down. Could be a lot of reasons. I would think there will be extensive review of his medical history before any decision is made. We also don't know if there were any concussions in high school. Who knows if they were even documented - kids aren't always up front with coaches about stuff like that. Especially boys.

can there be a situation where we take too many transfers? just wondering if its going to be hard to get 5-7 guys to buy in to the culture.

This has probably already been cleared up somewhere, but I haven’t seen it yet - what is Phillips eligibility? When can he play for us and for how many years?

Has to take 18 credits and graduate this semester. If he does, he will have one year with us. If not, he will need to go play FCS.
