Update on David Stone-he is staying at Oklahoma

Make it happen only a handful of positions to go hard after money wise
2 WRs
1 DT
1LB
2 Safety
I’d even trim that list down further in order to keep the guys on our roster we want to hold onto.

At an absolute minimum, get Stone or Watson at DT, then get a WR and a Safety. That’s 3 guys. 3 impact guys who can help us while holding onto enough cash to keep the guys we need to keep.

Anything more than a DT, S and WR is luxury.

It all balances out. There are guys who also take pay cuts. As mentioned prior, tons of money came off the books. Look alone who is gone from last years squad. I believe 14 starters and key backups. The 2025 class did not cost much. Even with the winter additions, we should have a ton of money. We either want to spend, or we don't.

Cam Ward
Damien Martinez
Ajay Allen
Chris Johnson
Elijah Arroyo
Riley Williams
Xavier Restrepo
Jacolby George
Isaiah Horton
Sam Brown
Ny Carr
Jalen Rivers
Zach Carpenter
Tyler Baron
Elias Rudolph
Elijah Alston
Simeon Barrow
CJ Clark
Marley Cook
Kiko Mauigoa
Meesh Powell
Jaden Harris
Zaquan Patterson
Dyoni Hill
Daryl Porter
The boldness deserves its own thread. I have a lot strong opinions about this topic but I’m not trying to stir up the boards.

As far as the 25’ class, this staff was naive enough to think the W’s would get players cheaper. It totally backfired on their faces. Evidently, they have not learned their lessons and aren’t willing to play the game correctly.

College Football is nothing like the NFL. There is no “salary cap.” It’s more like the MLB, where the biggest spenders are going to be the most successful. A simple concept we refuse to accept for some strange reason.

Miami also has another problem where it has one the best of best budgets in the country and can’t even install an average defense and make a playoff with a garbage schedule. 25’ starting to feel like Deja vu with this roster.

Agreed. People think it’s easy to just “go get them, no matter what.” Doesn’t work that way. Miami has certainly shown their willingness spend big money, but resources aren’t unlimited.
I was just clarifying the situation for the OP. While I agree it’s not easy and resources are limited, Mario better find a way to make it work.

Bottom line, NO ONE in the ACC is allocating more resources than us to their programs with only Clemson coming close. Mario’s going into year 4, time to atleast make the ACCCG, no more excuses.

Assuming we actually are in pursuit. It appears that the "we are budgeting" wheels are already in motion.

It’s wild, they were all in on him out of high school. We basically saved 1 year of salary on him from his freshman year. And now they want to “budget”???

Every single SEC team would be all over him if they could get their hands on him

We are considered a top spender by the rest of America- coaches, media, agents.

The only place I see people questioning our spending is our message boards, I think there is an information gap.

Now I know where the expression don’t shoot the messenger comes from. Feel like breaking things after your note.

It came down to uga and Miami for O’Connor you best believe he got paid well. Poyser was the 2 safety in the portal and picked miami over lsu, uf, auburn, uga. You best believe he got a bag. Blay was highly ranked and a top 5 DT in the portal he definitely got paid. We know beck got taken care of.

I’m sure teams were on Bain especially after last year defense. So probably had to throw Bain some extra bread. Probably had to up oj bag. Sure francis got some calls as well as jojo after not playing much last year
And it’s still not enough 🤷🏻‍♂️
