*UPDATE: Flips to UNC *DB Kenton Dopson III commits to Miami

The reclass is fine if the kid takes the year as a redshirt to learn and get bigger. If they’re expecting to play then that’s no bueno. Malachi Toney is maybe a special case where it looks like he will play a good bit. But the corner room will be stacked. Lucas OJ and O’Connor all have another year after this season. Good problem to have.

I saw the thread bumped and was expecting a decommit or he’s visiting bama or something. So I’ll take the win

Has it? I was too lazy to really check this out statistically but I was thinking along the same lines

Blount seems like he could be a good one but still pretty early
CIS fave Andrew Ivins did an article on it last year but more misses than hits. He didn't even mention guys like TJ Capers.. I do think Blount will be good, but the level of focus and maturity for a kid has to be at a different level imo

Blount is probably best case scenario as far as the type of kid who can succeed. Top academic kid in his class. That implies high work ethic

Thanks for this. I’ve never really liked it though I do understand why people do it

Spending a year in the college environment instead of just bullying high school comp probably is better for development, but same time just feels like it hasn’t really played out that way

Good point. Blount was slated as a top 5-10 recruit in his class as well. Not speaking about Dotson necessarily but a lot of guys are blue chip recruits but not on Blounts level either

Blount has his head on straight. He’s smart and realized they year 1 is most likely a red shirt year. That’s why he’s gonna succeed. If Kenton goes about it the same he will be good too. Can’t skip 1 year of high school and play a lot of snaps P4 year 1.

Well we hadn't had that many.... Other than Blount and Toney I don't recall any others recently. There's definitely pros and cons, but it's all depending on the individual player. With the Portal and NIL if they're Bonafide it's probably better to get them sooner than later because there no guarantees on later.

You might as well get kids a year later in a time period where they mature physically and mentally a ton.

There’s been studies on the effects of athletes in regards to their age in a class and almost always the advantage goes to older kids in each class.

Physically hes ready. Hes lilely bigger than most of our cbs right now. Kid is lile 6'0 185-190.
Learning coverage is all he would need and getting adjusted to that.

Saw this coming as just like flowers, blount, etc they are all on the same program path wise academically.
