Now you've gone too far...
So we might end up really liking Frenk? Interesting
In what way is Miami not a circus?
This is the ONLY way to run a university effectively and successfully. Frenk was hands off for long time and now he started realizing what others were seeing of him. Ineffective president who let matters slip out of his hand, with sports deteriorating to almost beyond repair. Maybe he finally decided to grab the bull by horn and start acting as strong leader. Using the powers his position gives him.If accurate, it seems that someone or something has finally pushed Frenk’s button. And he seems to be arrogant enough that when his button is pushed, he will make the decisions that he has power to make regardless of his advisors (BOT). Frankly, this is the type of arrogance you need in a leader because sometimes the leader has to stop receiving opinions and believe that he/she is the smartest person in the room and is the only person who should make the final decisions. Now let us keep our fingers crossed that Frenk has decided that sports are an important function of a D1 university AND that he believes in the Stanford, ND, Michigan model that a university can not be great in just _______ to be considered great.
I hope Frenk is a killer behind the scenes. He must be pretty ruthless to become a University president. That doesn’t happen by mistake.
I think he wrote it but someone definitely told him to write it.0% chance Lake wrote that himself
Not sure how Lake deduced there was no power struggle .. if there wasn't one the AD hire would have been made by Monday of this week .. he would be in place and reviewing the HC situation .. Diaz and alternatives .. and the HC situation would be clarified to all by next Monday. The FACT that nothing has happened highlights the power struggle within the BOT that is currently hamstringing any action.
I think he wrote it but someone definitely told him to write it.
How the **** are they supposed to know? The Athletic Department is a ****show but hopefully changing, but it IS one now. They've been doing stupider **** than what's currently being reported for 20 years. Even if it turns out not to be true, it was believable to the common fan.It makes sense. All that other nonsense from last night on Twitter just shows how gullible our fan base is.
Maybe the enemy of my enemy is my friend kind of dealSo Frenk is one of the good guys now?
The jury is still out but if he really made the decision (finally) to fire James without input from or or discussion with the BOT then he may finally woke up and decided to act like a president. Let's hope that is the case.Way too far...
No he’s not. The BOT is.Of course he is.

If Frenk made the decision to off James then I would think that bodes well for his stance on DiazWhat scares me is that it says the AD and Frenk will then make a decision on Diaz. There should be no doubt what the decision needs to be. Zero
Ngl the work that Lake has been doing over the past several weeks has been nothing short of masterclass in sports journalism. Dude’s info has been very reliable and does not care what the powers that be have to say about his work.
Putting the real story out there and disregarding what you stand to lose in favor of giving the people the info they deserve and shedding light on things kept in the dark - THAT’S how you do this job. Other members of the local media could learn a thing or two. Props to him.
Sending you a $1 and keeping you on retainerThis narrative of a ‘power struggle’ happening at Miami with the AD and potential head coaching search is disingenuous. Where is the power struggle? President Julio Frenk is in power and he and his advisors are making changes.
WRONG.
Miami does not have a AD…no power there. The board of trustees is toothless (the decision to part ways from Blake James was made without their input for a reason)…no power there either.
WRONG.
President Julio Frenk and his advisors are attacking the status quo and these aggressive changes are making people uncomfortable. Are you all satisfied with the status quo? These type of massive changes need to happen if Miami is going to move forward and have success. The problem is systemic.
WHY WOULD IT BE A PROBLEM FOR PEOPLE TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE IF THEY ARE TOOTHLESS? WHY WOULD THE "SYSTEMIC" PROBLEM BE AN ISSUE IF THE "SYSTEM" IS TOOTHLESS?
Again, people in the Hecht building and on the BoT leaking out that Manny Diaz is on the cusp of returning is disingenuous. Interim AD Jenn Strawley is not a candidate for the AD position. That would be a status quo move and the people making this decision don’t want the status quo.
SURE, EVERYONE IS DISINGENUOUS EXCEPT FOR DAVID LAKE AND JULIO FRENK. YET THIS INDICATES THAT THE BOT IS NOT AS TOOTHLESS AS CLAIMED TWO PARAGRAPHS EARLIER. THEIR ACTIONS ARE HAVING IMPACT.
These narratives are damaging because they characterize Miami as a circus (which it isn’t), but this circus narrative is something that the status quo people want to put out there because it could potentially scare quality AD candidates and scare a potential quality coach. These narratives are a shining example of why a total culture reset is needed.
AND YET ONE PARAGRAPH EARLIER, YOU WERE CLAIMING THAT HECHT PEOPLE AND BOT PEOPLE WERE LEAKING FALSE (AND, OF COURSE, DISINGENUOUS) STORIES, EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE TOOTHLESS. SOUNDS LIKE A CIRCUS TO ME.
I read it as people who aren’t in power are trying to create the illusion of one as they lose their former power. I could be wrong but if we take all the info given presently, certain BOT member may be doing whatever they can to retain power. But if Frenk is moving unilaterally it doesn’t matter what they do. The disgruntled member can become as upset as they want but that doesn’t create a real power struggle. Just the illusion that there is one.Like David and the info he usually brings, but here’s my problem with his article. He says there is no power struggle but then goes on to say that people are intentionally leaking info to create havoc to scare off quality ADs…. Seems like a power struggle to me.
Perhaps, looking back it definitely seems like something to quell fears about the ship sailing right off a cliff. Im not sure if I’d agree that the system we have in place isn’t a circus, but he certainly hasn’t shied away from exposing BOT members with power that have continually favored the status quo to the detriment of this university. He’ll always be good in my book for that at least.Lake has had some good reporting recently, but this most recent story is a plant.
Again, not everything is wrong about it, but "Frenk will make the hire" and "BOT is toothless" and "there is no power struggle" are all storylines that certain people want you to believe, BUT THOSE STORIES ARE NOT ACCURATE.
