Update - Clarification from David Lake, 247 TODAY

Bro; lol. I’m glad someone said this. Lol.

I mean, who am I to argue with David Lake? He's telling me that the UM President is all-powerful and the BOT is "toothless". Never mind the fact that my own personal experience and observations for 35 years have been the opposite of that...

How can my own eyes and ears compete with such a plugged-in expert? After all, he gets a published byline, and I'm just an anonymous random poster on New Zealand's fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo sports-chat website...

So here's Ferman's latest contribution:

I did some research on all this this AM
Here is the bottom line:
He remains the athletic chair on the Board. He still has a seat in the room and a say and will be involved in the AD search for sure. But he is not the ultimate decision maker.
Why would he be a Manny supporter and want to see Manny get another year?
because he was involved in the hiring of Manny in the first place.
He would definitely stand up and say they have only given Manny three years and he has shown improvement the last half of the season and we need to see this through.
A Manny firing would be a statement that he also failed when Manny was hired. I think everyone on this board shares the opinion on that.
But for example, he was not involved in Blake's firing.
I think he will be involved in the AD search over the next week or so, would probably be part of a team that interviews the top 2-4 candidates.
The President will be the ultimate decision maker on that.

At that point, I think then the discussion turns to the football coach and the new AD becomes the decision maker with obvious imput from the others. Epstein would probably be part of that panel as well. But he wont unilaterally be the decision maker on anything. he is a voice in the room.

Let me see if I can understand this.

Gary motherfvckin' Ferman has been covering UM since the 1990s (1980s?). And he is JUST NOW researching how UM's Board of Trustees works and who has what roles?

This is unbelievable. This is like being a national news anchor in Washington DC and not knowing who any of the politicians are, whether they are elected or appointed, and how long they will be in office. Let alone knowing what they actually do...

"A Manny firing would be a statement that he also failed when Manny was hired. I think everyone on this board shares the opinion on that."

Uh, not Jose Mas, who has only been on the Board for 2 years...just another example of Ferman Overstatement...

If we ARE to believe David Lake's PROPAGANDA:

Influential members of the BOT do NOT have preferences (and agendas) that might bite Frenk's (contractual) *** if he makes a decision they don't care for...

The "U" does not care to take any windfall millions from wealthy interested BOT members that want to help with buyouts, incentives, facilities, etc... ie; powerless (CA$$H)...

Talk about DISINGENUOUS!!

If you have to ask...

I mean, it's not like people haven't explained it hundreds of times on dozens of other threads. Now we have to reiterate it in every single thread, just for the folks who don't like to read and/or pay attention?

I’ve been on the forum less then a week…
Forgive me master

Why tho lol

Do you think Frenk has any idea how to back channel with these guys? He barely knows his own football program, let alone ADs and coaches across the country. Its not a good look to be openly trying to poach people and nobody wants to **** of their current employer by flirting with other schools. Its also not a good look if you do it in the open and get rejected.

Search firm puts together candidates, background checks, and the preliminary back channel to candidates and their agents to see if there is mutual interest.

If you have the right relationships and connections you can get by without one, but Dr. Frenk does not have those.

Happy to hear there is no power struggle. But there is a circus. The Board members and their minions who went onto social media to undermine the President's program are damaging the reputation of the University and acting way outside the scope of their role. I'm shocked at their behavior.

Hopefully this doesn't scare away our AD and HC targets like it appears was the purpose behind the campaign. And hopefully they get removed -- not because they were for or against a specific person, conflict can often be good and you don't want a bunch of yes-men on the board -- but because of the public nature of their campaigning.

The use of a, "search firm," and the inevitable punt to, "outside counsel," is all you need to know about how much has really changed at UM.

These sort of risk mitigating factors create a layer between the administration and the decision, but they also tend to remove anything but the "perfect" candidate.

Too bad, Jurich would have been a spectacular hire.
