Unpopular opinion on TVD

I find it humorous the opinions on TVD here and in the media. I like everything about him versus undersized and injured King. I wish TVD had a year under his belt but going to the portal denied him that opportunity. In one report they said TVD had the quickest release of all our QB's, I cannot find the article but is was reported as to be quicker then most NFL QB's. If we had a decent running attack we'd see the talent this kid has but Lashlee's offense and play calling, especially in the first half has dug us a hole yet when they cut TVD loose when we are far behind TVD deserves victories. Our defense can't stop anyone yet TVD has come close to pulling us out. Imagine if TVD had last year experience under his belt the coaches would have more confidence in him and utilize his talent instead of handicapping him, especially early. If you throw out our first half disasters and look at TVD stats in second halves you wonder why they don't play as if behind from the get go. Kid has a bright future, just hope it is in Miami Hurricane uniform.

Oh! Redsquare...good opinions don't let the gallery bother you. Just post your concerns and thoughts and ignore the chaff.

The love for Garcia over TVD on here comes down to two things:

1) Garcia has a quicker release and better delivery

And,

2) Garcia hasn’t lost a game as a starter yet

That is all.

Love listening to the QB coaches here saying negative things about TVD and calling for Garcia. First of all they bot have little or no experience. Some of you think Garcia's arm is equivalent to TVD which NOT TRUE AT ALL. Second, I agree there are some questions about TVD mechanics but that falls on our inept coaching staff. You cannot coach his size, arm strength, guts, and his ability to run. He needs better coaching and with experience and he could become a very good QB at UM. Remember this, our OL sucks big time, we do not have a running game, and this kid is making plays. STOP the nonsense that the kid isn't that good or Garcia should replace him. Garcia is hurt and TVD is performing just fine. HE HAS THE SKILL SET BUT HE NEEDS BETTER COACHING AND A LINE THAT CAN BLOCK!

He has a weaker arm than I was Expecting and i don’t like the side arm throws he makes honestly. But we will see what happens
I think @DMoney mentioned it but (oddly) the throw he made under pressure where he threw it to the sideline made me open my eyes. It was a missile lol

I dunno if sometimes his throws looked weaker just because of confidence or what

Just as likely to be true as saying Garcia will be one of those players who is constantly injured.

Fair point.

As for him not being expected to play this year in another post, nah, just no. You're the backup, you've always gotta be ready. In particular when your starter is coming off a severe injury and is a mobile QB who takes a lot of hits. Sure, you don't get many live bullets, but he's had a lot of 1st team snaps.

Great. Let's wait for the next press conference. Clearly, your neighborhood is the poster child for the failures of remedial education in our public school system.

just wondering where you played and coached QB's?
Clearly you got ******* clowned and got butthurt by it.

PS: I couldn’t give 2 ***** about your “title” because if you were any good at your job then you would be at a school that wouldn’t allow you to post on sites like this or in the league where you wouldn’t have time.

TVD works hard, bleeds orange & green and is a great role model. It's too early to tell yet whether he can be highly competitive at this level. It's also too early to tell whether he will be the starter or Jake Garcia (when he's healthy). Garcia looks like a 1st round talent to me but we shall see.

What I do know for sure is that a great kid like TVD who works his a@@ off to improve and win games for the U deserves our unwavering support (whether he ends up being the future QB1 or not). By all indications, he's a tremendous role model, super hard worker and great teammate. Let's support him whether he ends up ultimately being QB1 or not.

I wish him the best, but I'm not calling him an ******* who should transfer out or anything. I'm sure he wants to be amazing out there, is putting maximum effort to be just that, but if we're analyzing his performance, I'm left wanting.

I always want to be wrong on a player when I see an issue. I want them all to succeed here and in life after football. Their success will be our success. We lose with them.

He’s flashed some skills but still looks very inconsistent. Back to back games it’s taken him a half to get comfortable and you just can’t do that if you want to win. His delivery is a bit slow but he’s got a nice arm and his touch on downfield throws is pretty nice. He gives the receivers a chance to make a play or draw a PI penalty. The poor reads are definitely an experience issue. I understand there are redshirt freshmen QBs who get everything right away but they’re the exception, not the rule.
He played high school ball in CT. Rational fans should have never expected him to be polished in his second year.

CJ Stroud didn’t look good during his first few games of the year, but he’s started to put it together lately.

I’m not saying TVD is Stroud, but you can’t give up on the kid two games in. He needs experience to grow into the position.

And above all else, he needs confidence. He battled super hard in back-to-back games only to fall short. That definitely drags him down psychologically. Once a game goes our way, I think that will do wonders for him.

I don’t think anybody expected TVD to come in and immediately light the world on fire but I just don’t see many qualities that tell me he can win big here. Throwing motion will not be as easy as a fix as some of you think it will be. Yes he has arm talent but his deep ball isn’t good. With all that arm strength I can’t understand why he throws it behind and under throws so many guys.

I mean he’s a kid with some talent that can get hot. But being under 50% against two of the worst defenses in the conference isn’t gonna do it. It will never get easier than it has been thus far.

TVD somewhat reminds me of Blake Bortles. We saw the accuracy issues affect him in the NFL but he was successful at the college level. Hoping we can get TVD to the point where he can use his natural tools to win some ball games for us. With that said, I'm excited to see how Garcia finally looks when he returns from his injury.

Would you feel differently if he threw 4 TDs and 2 picks and they won? TVD hit smith and Rambo in the endzone. Both money balls and were not caught (mostly do to uncalled PI) and the last pick had a shot going to Rambo if jail brake did not happen.

Flashes all of the tools… calm, collected, mature, mobility, playmaking ability, arm strength, touch, accuracy… but never all together. And every time he makes a mistake it’s a bad one. King tended to get away with his mistakes more often than not. Rosier did too. I think it’s that defenses expected them to run and they know TVD can but they don’t play him for it. They play him for the pass.

Solid option to bridge but idk what his ceiling is.

That’s a solid write up. He made some awful throws but he’s a RSFR in his first road game. If we write off RSFR after their first road game performances, Gino would never have started ever (he was a mess the fsu game).

TVD is a nice prospect, checks a lot of boxes but has a ceiling lower than García imo. Only nit I have with TVd is his release - a bit slow/long for my liking. Other question I had is that he’s not a qb super nerd. He hasn’t lived and breathed it like a guy like García has.

No I wouldn’t. You can’t win long term with a QB that can’t complete 50% of his throws and that arm angle is gonna be a bigger issue than most want to believe.

I view our QB play right now for what it is. It’s a tryout for the future. TVD could be 15/15 for 250 and 4 TDs in the first half and I would still want to see Garcia in the second half.

TVD was fine. Have seen much worse with QB's starting their second game (P5) and on the road. Big enough, arm strength is fine and ability to escape and run. Has to work on footwork which will improve accuracy. And seems to be a leader.

Let's see how he plays against NCST and Pitt before we pass further judgement...

actually, the only one who is butthurt is your zircon OL buddy Gaynor. he's had his sh+t pushed in by so many DL, his *** is probably burning more than a 12 year old limping out of a rectory.

other than that, couldn't care less what you say.

you should be honored I even acknowledged one of the little people like you. I generally am not that generous.
