UNLV Matt Sluka-Sitting Out Due To NIL Dispute

you cant tie it to performance. you can only tie to off field stuff (aka marketing posts, appearances, etc.)
That's my point. We're now in a situation where the only way to tie them to a school is to make the contracts monthly. So what happens when the player decides they want more money? Contract's over at the end of the month and player decides to sit out. That goes the other way also. What if FSU decides DJU is a bust and their collective cuts off payment.

The current situation is not sustainable.

its really in this situation where it worked out for the player, but once they use the redshirt, theyd lose a year. thats the penalty. so any player can leave at any time they want, but if they dont have a redshirt year theyre screwed.

Wouldn't it be better if the player got what they were promised in the first place?

well yes. the issue is the coaches didnt work with their collective. what should have happened was what real programs do, which is coaches recruit and go over football aspects and then they have a meeting with the NIL guys without coaches where they go over the financials. here, a coach just promised money and then kept delaying it.

here, i think the agent (idiot as he is) was just shocked someone offered a holy cross dude 100k and jumped on it lol. just trusted coaches that it would work itself out with the collective. honestly, if i were UNLV here, i would have just gotten the collective to pay the 100k as promised by coaches and call it a sunk cost if he sucks. this is worse PR for them than just eating the 100k.

NSIP, but the kid "Bear" from UGA that we were in the running for and went to USC is sitting the rest of the season to transfer due to playing time.

I'll say I've been historically opposed to the idea of colleges paying players, but the way NIL is working as a substitute needs help.

What value has a high school player created at the college level...0. Its a massive risk for all the flameouts there will be. I'm fine with compensation once they get to college and do something but paying incoming freshman is where a lot of money is going to be ****ed away. I understand the need right now because for years the SEC was just handing wads of cash to the best and getting who they want. But guess what for the most part that is still happening.

I dont root for Miami because of any one player. I root for the brand. The names change but its always the Miami Hurricanes. Thats why I think over time NIL will come down for almost all players and in many 2nd and 3rd tier sports it will not exist. I mean what is the LHP that was good in high school but is now a middle reliever with a 6.00 era doing for any program.

Kid must have not learned much at Holy Cross and must have a dumb Dad. Who changes schools with a cross country move and doesn't have a signed contract? I mean come on. There must be more to this story than the QBs version.

In MLB he'd probably win in arbitration and get $10 million/year.

These articles don’t support your argument. The reason many schools, even big name schools struggle to make a profit is because their football and men’s basketball programs support all the other sports programs. Take out the revenue and expenses of the non-revenue sports, which make up the overwhelming majority of scholarships, and every single Power 4 program in the country would be deeply in the black. Eliminate the phantom “cost of tuition” from the equation in football and basketball and they are even more deeply in the black. Transfer a greater share of the NCAA Tournament revenue to the schools and boom, even more in the black. Collectively negotiate TV rights for a new college pro league and boom even more in the black. Eliminate systems that require unnecessary spending on facilities (college facilities are far superior to NFL facilities with the exception of stadiums) and boom even more in the black.

And of course another one who didn’t read;

Listen, as I’ve told ppl b4, I’m not going to argue on something I actually know. So u guys can believe what u want to believe & come up w/ these Pied Piper, skip to my lou theories.

There’s a reason I stopped posting on the main board as frequently as b4 b/c this board has become irrational & Marxist in its views on a lot of things b/c it’s clouded by personal vendettas vs. bigger picture. So yes, let’s make CFB the NFL, & let’s see how that works out, especially for the small private school like Miami.

Ya’ll take care & argue amongst urself.

I read all of the articles you attached. They don't support your argument, and it's clear that you don't actually know. I bet you also thought NIL would be bad for Miami too. Turns out to be really great.
