Univ. of Miami has the worst reporters of any sport in history

I’m watching some of the inside the u videos today of the player interviews and how many times can they ask the same questions over and over again? These ppl have no football IQ after decades of watching the sport… no ability to ask relevant questions that make sense.

How many times are all of them going to keep asking about Mark Fletcher to everybody from staff to players over and over again ?? How many times are they going to keep asking Francisco about how his “little brother felt after his 1st game?” .. after the game this week it’s going to be “How did Francis feel after his 2nd game?”

It’s like I want to hear these players and coaches speak to us through the media… but I lose brain cells every week listening to these nerds ask the most out of touch pointless questions repeatedly.

Can Mario get the Miami admins to have these ppl replaced? And get some youth in the mix that actually understands the culture and football.
I want to see them ask how francis feels after he graduates and heads to the nfl

Hes just as bad.
I don't agree. I don't think he's doing much Hurricanes now. Not really sure what he's up to. But when he was on the beat at the Herald, he did the best job out of all the media members in terms of providing content that wasn't just pure fluff pieces. But I'm going way back to likely 2000-2010.

It's like she's coming at Mario and he is backing up. Well done! Very funny!
It’s from fatal attraction

The canes YouTube is very janky as well. Joe Z is cringe
Imagine if they put actual effort in that. Program produced hype videos every week, using the latest practice snippets, previous week game footage, etc. And then also crowdsourced questions for player interviews.

These people have been working the University of Miami beat for...seemingly...ever (like, over 20 years)...most Miami media has been around for ages...and they all have very few sources...break little to no information...fail to capture any of the human interest stories that come out of every football program in America...provide nothing more than surface level press conference regurgitations...none of them have any video or editing skills and as a result any new media format they attempt looks like ****.

They really do all suck at their job. This football program could use a good media outlet. CanesInsight is run as a hobby by people that are busy doing their actual shoot jobs and they provide more in a day than some of these people have provided in like 30 years of working this beat. Its wild.

Fast forward to 2023, all Manny does is take pot shots at Miami... He's another net negative to the program

He seems to write alot for "The Athletic" web-site with most recent work being a glowing, deep-throated, piece on the football program from Trailerhassee.

Don’t think ole Andy is Mia reporter, but why even make an article bout the attendance? Folks love to bash the U !

Welcome to college football media. It’s no different anywhere. If a reporter asks a player a difficult question, that reporter gets scorned by the university and the player is never given media availability ever again.

I’m admittedly defensive on this subject as I’ve worked in the media for a long time. This board’s obsession with the media is weird and absolutely hypocritical. We want zero access to injuries and important camp updates that Mario wants to hide, but we also want analytical questions that don’t lead to fluff pieces?

You can’t have it both ways.

EDIT: but yes, Susan miller is a dummy and waste of space.

They’re certain media members who do suck that are on the beat for Miami, but honestly what do you expect/want them to ask the players when they’re there everyday? There are only so many questions you can ask a 20 year old
I want more specific questions about techniques being taught, about film study and what they have noticed about a specific opponent, or even a specific play from the last game. For example, ask Kinchens about the tackle he and Mesidor made in the backfield and what he saw, or ask TVD why he didn’t throw the ball to Restrepo on the INT.
I want specifics, because when you get guys talking about specifics you get more info and more insight.
All this nonsense about ”what will the atmosphere be like“, or “how does it feel to play for Miami” leads to very boring answers.

I don’t know if our reporters are bad, or they think the players are too dumb to answer interesting questions. But the end result is boring interviews.

I don't care a great deal about substance from our media, as I knew more about football by the time I was 8, than all of them combined. What I want is a local media that promotes and defends our program. I want a propaganda arm, and I'm not at all shy or hesitant about saying it. I want an SEC-level fawning and sycophantic media, with an edge appropriate for South Florida.

Note: this does not mean going to bat for a regime that is failing; it does, however, mean selling the program (i.e., we will get this together with our next coach/AD if necessary).

Every fan should want this.

I generally do not criticize the entire college football media, though I target specific individuals. And sports journalism in SoFla has been bad for decades. I went to UM with Dan LeBatard and numerous other people who went into sports journalism (and regular journalism) and one of my best friends from high school (he went Gaytor) was the UiF beat writer for years for The Orlando Sentinel.

I realize it is a challenging job and doesn't pay well (unless you have a face for TV). I think it is valid to criticize:

1. Shallow, repetitive questions and/or reporting - you don't have to be a gifted writer to simply ask a few interesting questions
2. Discretion (or lack thereof) when reporting on recruiting and injuries - if the school asks to keep these topics quiet, then respect the request

SMD is just a bad reporter, sports or otherwise. Same with Linda Robertson (a while back) and several others I could mention.

Barry Jacks-off is just an indiscreet gossip.

I could go into greater detail, but I'll skip it for now. Omar was a pretty **** good reporter for the Sun-Sentinel, one of the best we've had.

That's now how the media is supposed to work. I understand that might be what fans want, but it's important media members don't do what fans want. That's how you get FOX News and MSNBC.

But... that's a conversation for another time and place. I appreciate your civil response.

But explain this to me. If you want propaganda, then you also don't want the media being critical when it is warranted? I mean, if we go 5-7 again, what is it you want? Puff pieces about how the student-athletes have a good GPA and their community service?

Personally, I want reporters that can be critical when it calls for it.
