Under the radar coach you would like

posted a couple links for the top OCs in the game that I would like to see as head coaches. If your going to go the assistant route then you've got to get one of the best in my opinion. If were looking at someone with HC experience with no baggage and has proven that he can get the job done at a lower tier FBS school then this is the number one candidate hands down who I think would be interested in the job

Gary Patterson has possibly been exposed, look at his track record once he moved to the big 12. It's not like his team changed and had to rebuild either.

I would love to see what Mark Stoops does this year with Kentucky. If he can get them playing better and competing in most of their games I would be onboard with that kind of hire.

So you expected a lower tier FBS school to move into a Big Boy conference and compete right away? That's the same as expecting FIU to come into the ACC and have a winning record. TCU will never get the top athletes in the state to compete with Texas, TT, Oklahoma, and others no different than FIU would if they were to change conferences, they are the same school in that respect. You are downplaying his accomplishments my friend. With the added benefit of what UM would bring GP as it relates to top tier athletes, I could see him dominating the ACC with his style of play and experience as an HC.

His team regressed last year (year 2 in the conference).

The difference between FIU is they never had success. TCU was having success and was coming of 4 straight double digits win seasons and won the Rose Bowl in 2010. TCU was supposedly a big team and then ________.

If there not going to get better talent, what do you expect from Patterson going forward? Similar results?

I think Patterson is on the WAIT and SEE list. This is a big year for him.

As we've found out the hard way with Greaseball, taking a really ****** program and making them decent is a lot easier than taking a good program and making it great again.

There have been a few coaches recently who have taken Kentucky to 8 win seasons. If Poops can exceed what Rich Brooks, Hal Mumme and Guy Morris did at Kentucky, then he'll prove himself as a top guy to keep an eye on. Right now, all he's done is recruit.

Patterson scrapped his offense and went to the hurry up spread this year. Hired new coordinators to run his offense with Texas tech roots. So at least he's trying something new to take that next step. But your points about him struggling when he moved up in competition are valid.

I expect him to regroup and get better but he will have his work cut out to win the Big 12. UCF with George Oleary is an even better example than FIU, they have experienced a little success in their conference recently. if they move up to the ACC do you expect that success to continue going head to head with UF, FSU, And Miami in recruiting? They will win a few games but It will take a couple years for them to be relevant again

It will be interesting to see if that changes things.

There is not much of a difference between CUSA and AAC. In addition UCF got a player that changed the game for them (Bortles). He is what an elite QB can do to a team.

How are they going to improve if nothing changes (recruiting wise) and all they're doing is playing more games in the conference. The coaching staff remains the same, the quality of players remains the same. At lease Patterson tried to change something (new offense) to change the game.

My point is when you go against more difficult competition at the same program; you're potentially exposing yourself as a poor coach. Sure you can beat the bad, but can you beat the good.

Back to an earlier point... I'm not sure if he'll be able to compete at bringing in the horses, but Gary Patterson is a **** good developer of talent. Those 2 bcs bowl teams he had were solid football teams.

What's the difference between him and Schiano or Golden for that matter? They haven't won anything.

Neither did Butch.

Butch went 11-1 his last season, won the Big East, and won BCS bowl. Jim Leavitt is a horrible choice.

Leavitt had the Bulls as the #2 team in the nation. He also won the big east. Big deal. I could just as easily say Davis is a horrible choice.

Gary Patterson is a badass. Part of his issues the last couple years was that the kid who should have been his star QB (Casy Pachall) was in and out of the lineup, and the backup never really worked out. Understandably that is on the coach, but while he was trying to break in a new, inexperienced QB they were also playing up a level.

I think if you gave him a badass, young OC (some sort of Cutclifee or Chip Kelly disciple) and kept Ice, Hurlie and Larry around the recruiting would be fine. He ran a 4-2-5 defense last I checked too, so his scheme would fit perfectly with the local talent. Kids like Jermaine Grace, Skai Moore, Adrien Talan, etc all would not only have offers from the get go, but they would also have a natural position to play. And dudes like McCord and Muhammad would be getting after the passer 80% of the time, not covering slot receivers and looking awkward in space.

For a team recruiting the leftovers, guy has put talent in the NFL too: Dalton, Jason Verrett, Daryl Washington, etc.

Finally, he knows how to get the most out of his best players. Can't be understated. Don't know if he has it in him to run the table in a major conference, but I would rather bet on him than Cristobal, Mark Stoops (at this point) or a coordinator that has never run the show before (learned my lesson with Randy).

And yet you want Pruitt.

LOL, and they ended up going 9-4 that year. USF never won the Big East.

And you could easily type that "Davis is a horrible choice" but it wouldn't make any sense.
