We have hired three under the radar coaches, and all three have been unmitigated disasters!
How about doing something different, hiring a winner?

I expect him to regroup and get better but he will have his work cut out to win the Big 12. UCF with George Oleary is an even better example than FIU, they have experienced a little success in their conference recently. if they move up to the ACC do you expect that success to continue going head to head with UF, FSU, And Miami in recruiting? They will win a few games but It will take a couple years for them to be relevant again
There is not much of a difference between CUSA and AAC. In addition UCF got a player that changed the game for them (Bortles). He is what an elite QB can do to a team.
How are they going to improve if nothing changes (recruiting wise) and all they're doing is playing more games in the conference. The coaching staff remains the same, the quality of players remains the same. At lease Patterson tried to change something (new offense) to change the game.
My point is when you go against more difficult competition at the same program; you're potentially exposing yourself as a poor coach. Sure you can beat the bad, but can you beat the good.
I would love to see what Mark Stoops does this year with Kentucky. If he can get them playing better and competing in most of their games I would be onboard with that kind of hire.
As we've found out the hard way with Greaseball, taking a really ****** program and making them decent is a lot easier than taking a good program and making it great again.
There have been a few coaches recently who have taken Kentucky to 8 win seasons. If Poops can exceed what Rich Brooks, Hal Mumme and Guy Morris did at Kentucky, then he'll prove himself as a top guy to keep an eye on. Right now, all he's done is recruit.
And yet you want Pruitt.

Pruitt is a very special defensive football coach. Poops isn't. But there are others I'd hire before Pruitt, so go ahead and shove your snarky "yet you want Pruitt" up your tail.
I get that you're hard for Poops, but I'd like to see more out of him before I handed him the program. If his name was Mark Davis you guys wouldn't even care about him. Not all Poops brothers succeed as HCs, as Mike was a major fail at Arizona.
A name to keep an eye on is UAB HC Bill Clark. First year at UAB and he is giving teams fits. He absolutely has their fan base giddy. This guy is definitely headed to great things. Coached at Prattville High School (106-11) in Prattville, AL before taking the DC job at U. South Alabama. Had a cup of coffee at Jacksonville State (led them to the playoffs, his only year there) before coming to UAB. Beat Troy 48-10 with garbage players and gave Miss State a scare before losing 47-34.

When in doubt, make up a dumb nickname.
What suggests Pruitt is a special defensive coach? Bc he was DBs coach for Bama? His sick HS defenses? He's been a DC for 1 season on a loaded team. And that D gave up more yards, yards per play (which is prob the best indicator) then the year prior. It was still a lights out D but there was a ton to work with, it was a Coker situation: just don't F it up.
I don't have a problem with Pruitt but your logic makes 0 sense. 1 year DC is ready. Guy with nearly 10 years as a DC and a year as a HC isn't. Guy who built the D from 108th in the nation and was better the year prior, not special. Guy who took over for 1 year, special.

No way. Can't hire a guy who killed it in HS. Forget Malzahn, Briles, and Pruitt. I'm still hung up on Gerry Faust.
