UNC transfer Devontez Walker denied too - NCAA changed their mind, he's eligible now

Is that your Miami fan side saying that? Cause I bet your lawyer side would be ****ed if you got denied by a rule that wasn't in place when you transferred. I mean part of life is getting in before the rule changes or buying something before the price goes up. When you say, everyone knew it was coming, does that mean the NCAA had stated the rule would be taking effect on date X or on date X they made the rule? It's hard for me to be on the ncaa's side in this.

Let me see if I can say this a different way.

I don't giive a **** about my Miami fandom. My issue has ALWAYS been that everyone (including the players at UNC and F$U) were fully aware that the policy would be changing. Is there always an official "enactment date"? Sure. But let's not pretend that these two players didn't know EXACTLY what the NCAA was just about to do. Enrolling TWO DAYS before the enactment date is not some sort of an area where I have sympathy for "ignorance" or "grandfathering". They knew what the rule change would be.

As you point out, if I was hired to INDIVIDUALLY ADVOCATE for one person, sure, I'd make the best argument possible. But my lack of sympathy is not based on my alma mater, it's based on what is (if we are being reeeeealllllly honest) a last-gasp at "let me make my second transfer as quickly as possible before the rules FORMALLY change" nonsense.

If your personal viewpoint is "brightline" and you side with the players over the NCAA because of the timing, that's up to you. I'm more of a "spirit of the rule" kind of a guy, in that if you KNEW the rule was about to change, I'm not a fan of "some people" getting to use "grandfathering" and other people NOT being able to use grandfathering, based on arbitrary dates.

Everyone knew what was about to happen with the rules changes. Two guys are whining about it and trying to take advantage of a calendar date cutoff.

That's all.

I wonder if all these national writers would be making such a big deal out of this story if Tez transferred to Miami?

UNC basically told the NCAA to kick rocks when they went after them for the academic fake class scandal so maybe its a little payback.

Poor Tez gets to take classes, expand his knowledge, practice football and workout, and be close to family. I think he will be ok

The UNC AD is now adding mental health issues as one of the reasons he should have received a waiver. So it went from coach left his old team (the only reason given by Tez in an interview right after he transferred) to he transferred before the rule change to grandmother is sick to mental health issues.
What is crazy is the media failed to see or mention his first statement when his appeals were denied. It doesn't take much to google these days. I would but don't have the energy to search his twitter to see if that statement when he first left the old team is still there or if he deleted it. I am sure we will hear Mack Brown whining all weekend about this!

Yup. 100%.

The ever-shifting rationales are insulting to our collective intelligence.

I am not going to go into great detail here, but I have actually seen what the NCAA Portal questionnaire looks like, I have seen what players have to fill out and what questions they need to answer. One of them involves whether you have an exception to the "Portal" rules. Clearly, I don't have the paperwork for these two players in front of me, but I would imagine that if they REALLY had cited all of these reasons up-front, we wouldn't have this drip-drip-drip of new rationales every week or so.

Anyhow., that's my take on it, regardless of whether everyone agrees. I have no problems with alternate viewpoints, I'm honest about mine.

So if I get pulled over for speeding in a zone where the county has plans to officially change the speed limit later on in the week, I should be given a ticket? Even though as of that day I am not speeding?

People make decisions based on timing and legality all the time.

And all that aside, siding with the NCAA is for idiots. These kids should be allowed to transfer and play whenever they want wherever they want. These school presidents and NCAA leaders don't give a flying **** about the kids.

Hey, I'm glad both the teams got ****ed luring players from other teams.. They should have all known the kids would be ineligible and advised them accordingly. In free shoes case they're probably just glad the kid can't play for Miami.

Post # 14 in this thread has a screenshot of his answer to the questions shortly after the transfer.

Ah yes, the old "let me use a completely different example" approach...

A speed limit example? Speed limits are posted. But if the REASON for lowering a speed limit was safety concerns (increased population, new school, construction, etc.) and someone was blazing through two days before the county was able to install the new signs, I would have NO PROBLEM with a cop writing a ticket for reckless driving.

I don't give a **** if "people make decisions based on timing and legality all the time". People also "make up sob stories all the time" too. Any way you want to slice this, I can cut it in another direction, so save the Captain Save A Transfer nonsense.

As I've made clear, the entire college football community knew that the rules were changing. I really don't care if two guys tried to get under the wire by two days, particulalry when they keep changing their stories for maximum outrage/sympathy.

Those two guys need to take care of their mothers.

I feel bad for Walker, but agree the NCAA followed the letter of their law. It’s unfortunate.

I don’t care for Mack Brown whatsoever, but I’m glad he publicly went ballistic on the NCAA. Any negative publicity is good.

F-NCAA.

Pile it on.

After this and the Jackson episode I'm still wondering how not being able to play football precludes them from spending all the time they want with said relatives the other 6 days of the week. If anything it is a weekend, so no classes and you are free to spend all day with dear old granny if you wish

As a human, I believe this is unfortunate and was avoidable.

As a Miami loving human, I feel great when UNC feels bad.

As a human who is not Mack Brown, I find this shameful hyperbole borderline senile and across the line hilarious.

I contain multitudes.
And that’s why moving forward, the CIS family needs to wrap you up, hold you close, nibble on your ear and do anything we can to support you
