UNC Disrespect/Berrios Redemption

We all got caught up in the collapse of last season however,

In preparation for this year I started watching all of the condensed games from early in the year (the good ones)

I lost track of how many CLUTCH, critical, mother****ing balls plays Braxton Berrios made. Crazy catches, breaking tackles like a madman, gutsy plays.

Can’t ever complain about the insanely WR depth we have but **** do I miss that kid

Amen. It's hard think of a player recently who was a better representation of what it means to be a Cane, and a player who was a better representative for the program. The guy made several enormous plays for us last season, which we desperately needed without a healthy Richards, he played with a chip on his shoulder and an us against the world mentality, and he backed up his swagger with his play. The Notre Dame and UNC celebrations were pretty legendary. And, he was able to do all of that while basically ending up a straight A student off the field. Dude was a beast for us last year.

One of the best Canes ever. Fingers crossed he does well at NE once healthy. Lord knows they need better receivers to stay relevant.

One of my all time favorite Miami moments. Brax's presser after the game was epic too. "It hasn't left my mind since... I told my WR group if I got in I was going to make sure that U was held up properly. (Reporter: Did you see them put the U down again today?) No I actually didn't, and I'm glad I didn't, but I put it back up. And they're 1-8, so we're alright." Followed by a legit angry mug on his face. #Respect

What he said after that was just as important and did finally catch up to us.

Been a fan ever since he did the homerun swing celebration and threw up the U at the Under Armour game in HS. One of the most underrated Canes ever.

Berrios would've fit well with older Canes teams.

Well said. He ended up leaving Coral Gables pretty **** high on my list of favorite Canes of all time. I absolutely love that kid! It's sad the injury bug hit him in Foxboro. I want to see him beast there!
He’s in my top 3 of Canes players all time. I was born in 92 so I never watched players from the 70’s-90’s. He was the definition of a true Miami player.

As we all said at the time, it was amazing that the truest Cane on the roster was a white guy from North Carolina!

Thankfully Richt is changing that culture.

Actually, Braxton Berrios is Puerto Rican...Hence the last name Berrios...his Dad is from the 305..was all state soccer player at Southridge. He has an Aunt that owns a restaurant in South Miami.

All that kid did was dive and catch. I started laughing during the ND game when the announcer said "let's make sure he caught it", as if there was any chance he didn't.

A true Cane.

I think it’s important for us to remember that Berrios was HATED here by many. He had some questionable hands early on, didn’t produce much

According to many of our fans he shoulda been cut long before he had the chance to have a dominant senior season.

Oh and there are good football players outside of Florida

Just some food for thought next time we are destroying a freshman or sophomore here

I was skirting that issue, but yeah people had some hard words for him before last season. Same for Cager this summer.

I've noticed that we rarely have WR that have more than one big year. Not sure what the deal is, maybe there just aren't enough opportunities for more than one guy to really shine. Whatever the case, yeah it's annoying when people can't wait to write off a kid who doesn't shine his first year or two. There are only so many spots on the field and most guys need time to put it all together.

Anything beyond a cursory glance, though, tells you how flimsy this narrative is: Twelve out of those 22 completions were behind the line of scrimmage, and 217 of his 322 yards came after the catch. And the tape is even less kind to Elliott. With the help of this condensed game replay from the ACC Youtube page, let’s take a look:
