UM staff pushing for 4-star local DT Lyons

The key phrase there is “the way it used to be”. I never said recruiting didn’t matter…..but between the NIL, immediate eligibility transfers (multiple years of eligibility) and inevitable realignment of conferences the game is changing drastically. Where Miami sits currently, transfers have in fact been what has defined the program (without them we’d be a complete disaster). Until Miami gets more consistent on the field, the market the city provides in conjunction with transfer rules will continue to be the best option. Once we do we’ll be better equipped to play the recruiting game consistently with the big boys.

Dude, thats the problem…Transfers have defined this program. That’s not a good thing. Furthermore, U’re confusing what or why we’re taking so many transfers w/ the rest of CFB. Top programs r not bludgeoning the portal. They dip for a player or two. The NIL will enhance recruiting from the HS level.

We’re utilizing the portal b/c our HS recruiting has been ***. Hence, we’ve been left w/ no choice. We’ve had to get WRs, QBs, DE’s, CBs, Safeties, DTs & OL from the portal! Brotha, that’s unheard of. That’s not normal. Lol. Which is y we continue to be a 6-8 win program, consistently.

Edit: but we should be 15-0 this yr. No less than 14-1.

Preach, brotha’

So sick of seeing, “Eh we will just grab one from the portal”. How long are we going to play that game?

I’m not confusing anything, I’m simply stating how changes can allow Miami to apply its strengths to get out of the current rut it’s in. If we continue to play the recruiting game head to head against the big boys we will lose, and barring insanely effective evaluations we won’t catch up. Top programs don’t bludgeon the portal because unlike us, they run the game.

In order to build the depth you’re talking about to truly compete we must think outside the box to bring in experience on a year to year basis with the idea it’ll translate in more consistent winning, which should boost recruiting performance against the top programs, which will bring the roster back to where it belongs. These new rules provide that opportunity like never before and it’s imperative we continue to use it until recruiting is back to a point where multiple elite classes have set the roster.

I’m not disagreeing with your premise on recruiting, I’m just realistic about Miami’s position and how these new rules can allow them to achieve necessary progress short term. It’s not dismissing recruiting currently or brushing off misses, but understanding a lot of these players won’t produce now and we need now to re-establish later.

If we finish 15-0 or 14-1 the recruiting class will reflect the performance…….which means we’ll be a step closer to this being a non issue.

Guess who will have to lead the team to achieve that kind of performance…….transfers like King, Rambo, Stevenson, Johnson, and Bolden.

Of course, but it shouldn’t have to come to that. When this season is over, I’m going to reflect on both the 2018 & 2017 classes, and u’ll see why we’ve become reliant upon the portal & it’s not just b/c of our record.

My initial response was to ur QP, in which u mentioned the landscape of recruiting is changing where u don’t have to worry about a HS kid coming & waiting for them to take 2 yrs to develop. That sentiment is just not accurate. Our reliance upon the portal is b/c we haven’t had guys qualified enough to set an example for the pups, and we….well, u’ve seen the results.

Well get used to the portal, because we aint gonna be landing those Butch classes anymore. The CF landscape has completely changed, recruiting is a game played in 3 dimensions by the bag schools and 2 dimensions by the rest of us.

Miami has neither the will nor the resources to develop the vast organized network of boosters, agents, churches, foundations, HS coaches, family advisors, and all the other hucksters that make up the recruiting machines at the bag schools. And even if we did, the question remains - will the overlords in the SEC actually allow us to battle them on an even playing field?

The way it's set up now, even Nick ******* Saban wouldnt be able to have us be national contenders every year. We are Virginia Tech, and our road to the playoffs will be cyclical at best - the right combination of luck, depth, and a gamechanging QB will allow us to contend and this will happen occasionally, not annually.

The portal is a way for us to sneak in a few top 100-200 talents without having to deal with the bag game. It's literally our best hope. Everyone is applauding Coach Johnson for his outstanding CB recruiting so far, especially once he closes on Fegans, but dont forget, even he wouldnt have been able to grab Fegans if Bama truly put the full court pre$$ for him.

No my initial post is about how the changing landscape allows the ability to address needs for right now when you can’t wait for a freshman to develop for a couple years before contributing (which is the position Miami is in), not that you can simply forgo recruiting all together.

I know why we’re reliant on the portal and need to continue to be in the short term, I’ve already addressed that. It has come to that and it’s the current reality of Miami football.

F it;

I just can’t anymore.

Let me type this in all caps, so the ppl in the back can feel this:

WE DO NOT NEED TO RECRUIT ON THE LEVEL OF BAMA TO WIN THE COASTAL. IN FACT, FOR THE PAST 10 YRS, WE’VE OUT RECRUITED THE ENTIRE ACC WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CLEMSON, & FSU. WE HAVE 1 COASTAL TITLE TO SHOW FOR IT, AND A GRAND TOTAL OF 6 GUYS DRAFTED IN THE 1ST ROUND IN 10 YRS.

We’ve become reliant on the portal b/c of our staff’s inability to either identity, & recruit the right players, and/or develop the ones we currently have. We had the #12 ranked class in the nation in 2017. We had the #8 class, IN THE NATION, in 2018, champ! Where are those guys from 2017 who should be the leaders here? What about 2018??

Bags r thee lowest hanging fruit out there. The bag man has been around before all of us being around! Bama was giving out bags prior to Saban. They got hit heavy on penalties for it. Yet, those bags weren’t enough to stop them from getting their *** beat every season, or continue to get top players. That’s what some of ya’ll don’t understand.

Nevin’s little bull chit gesture was child’s play compared to other schools. While he was giving tours on yacht w/ some ladies of the night on there, USC was moving ppl’s families. UT was handing out Cadillac Escalades. Bama was droppin $150k to secure a recruit & falsify ACT scores! U think players were coming to Miami b/c of Nevin F’ing Shapiro?? No! They came b/c we were kicking *** & sending them to the NFL in the 1st round. EVEN with dealing w/ bagmen.

It’s time to retire that lame *** excuse FOR NOT WINNING THE COASTAL OR DEVELOPING THE BEST CLASSES IN THE ENTIRE ACC SANS CLEMPSON!

Do we know where he is on our board in terms of priorities - like are they just putting eggs in other baskets or was this guy prioritized and lost to FSU?

Do you actually think that’s something this staff would let leak out?

In the first place, you know they can’t discuss recruits, so it would have to be a leak. Secondly, you never let your enemies know your battle plan. Finally, since at least the clappy era, this regime has been the most disciplined in terms of information getting out, which we found out almost immediately with the hiring of the first OC.

I’m not sure we’ll ever really know where this guy was on our board. The best thing anyone can do is speculate, but good luck trying to figure out who’s right and who’s wrong.

Love him or hate him, one thing Manny has is message and information discipline, whether you like it or not, the messaging is his, and so is the info or lack thereof.

Edit: with the exception of a select few like @Cribby who have secrets that can’t be revealed, nobody else knows

I wonder if it's really true that Texas offered nicki 100 million dollar contract to coach there??? Paul finebaum discussed it on his show earlier Monday

Lol. None of these guys have seen the actual board. When people are complaining about losing Lyons to FSU, I’m curious how they know what the game plan is, where Lyons stands in that plan and so on

Like I’m not saying that Lyons isn’t someone we’d take but maybe it’s a situation like Spells where we’d take him but we have higher targets like Fegans and either he doesn’t want to wait or he doesn’t like not being prioritized?

I’m not sure what they’re doing on the interior DL either but some of the feelings are strong here and I don’t see where anyone knows the actual plan.

Players come to colleges not just for bags, but also to receive good coaching/have a good shot to make it to the league. Thats why O-Linemen like going to Oregon, Wisconsin, Notre Dame, etc.

Jaycee Horn went to South Carolina simply because T-Rob was there. And T-Rob gave him the coaching that made him a Top 10 draft pick in this draft.

At the end of the day, winning and coaching make all the difference. If you can present to the families and the players "This is what I achieved, this how 18 year old high school players went from youths to men, got drafted early and got paid well in the NFL", you have done half of the work. What @Rellyrell said was right. We can only stabilize this program and continue to grow this program if we make sure that we get wins.

And we have to win it this season. We have to win this division. This team has had a full offseason, much better db coaching, a much better DC and an offensive unit being more experienced, talented and used to a scheme that performed well given we had four spring practices and a lot of depth on some covid list.

We have to win. Period. There is no excuse.

I’ve said it many times - the only people who’ve seen the “recruiting board” are the ones that create it. Everything else is speculation and bull****.

I agree regarding Lyons I dont think he's 6-5 and his honestly his tape didnt look as good as Jalar Holleys HS tape whose currently in Portal. He is a high effort kid with ton of upside projects to be a good player and I could see why he goes to FSU he plays early there
