UM offers 2020 DT James Ash

Not taking a shot at you here bruh. But you (everyone)needs to understand the landscape. If our main areas to target are going to be Florida based alot of kids in south Florida(really anywhere in florida except panhandle/ north Florida) has under developed kids. Be it nutrition be it genetics, whatever. But not many are built that big here. That's those corn bread kids that have monsters for parents and were raised on cattle they killed and **** that we can find big kids like that on average. I agree I'd like some space eaters on the roster that are actually aware of their natural size and can play within it. But that's real rare to find. Also our scheme isnt designed for kids like that so much. Were all about twitchy kids that can move well. Just think, until recently we told nesta we wanted him playing at 285.... a kid who was 320 coming out of high school.

I would disagree slightly regarding the part that Florida doesn't big DT's (300+lbs), we do produce a few high quality ones that are athletic as well. The issue is these kids are 9 out 10 times about that bag life, which Miami can't play/pay. This year we offered Timothy Smith (Sebastian River), Manny Roger's ( Jensen Beach), and Jalen Carter( Apopka) all of whom are north of 300lbs an are uber athletic but they are all about that bag life.

An without a marquee DL coach to sway recruits, UM will have to go the developmental route with DT recruiting projacting how a undersized player will hopefully develop . DE recruiting is another matter entirely, which Florida produces in droves.

Luckily the 2020 season for DT is loaded an the usual DT Bagman schools have filled their DT class spots, barring a recruiting board shift or individual committed recruit red flag popping up Clemson, Bama, and UGA are full at DT with 3 each. Hence the waiting game for being played with Miami having to wait on our top Target at DT whom in turn is waiting to hear if he will get that offer he can't refuse # gottofeedthefam. So Miami could in the end land a quality big DT by default through the waiting game. But as insurance we are seeing all these developmental offers go out to DT's now.

Go Canes

Understood. Hopefully, we've figured out how to be dominant against the run when we play top tier teams. Tired of inside run attacks being our kryptonite.
If you recall after the first year of cmr being here they interviewed opposing coordinators throughout the conference and the consensus was either impressed or felt manny lacked substance in his calls. That he was too much flash & not enough emphasis on the base, the core of our defense. Anotherwords hit or miss because we swing for the fences on every snap. Most instances I would probably agree. I'd like to see our base defense able to read and react aggressively rather than relying on out maneuvering the opposing coach. Honestly as good as our defense has been the last several years this is equivalent to owning a picasso, but *****ing about not possessing a Monet... Sometimes you just settle with Brito and move forward.

nothing wrong with being 285 at the college level, u act like we have a whole bunch of 285lbs guys. Nesta will be our only DT at 285lb and i'm sure being a lighter will do wonders for him and he can put on some real weight when needed.
Disagree entirely. It's one thing to be playing at 285 when ur playing 3 tech and u have another dt besides you that requires the majority of the attention. When you have never played at that weight and have neither of the above situations on hand that's tough to ask a kid who's learning how to play inside his grown man's version of himself. Also you have to look at what his skillset is. As of now nesta ONLY move is a bull rush. He has the potential to be dominant at that but not without developing another move and staying at a weight hes comfortable with. Nesta himself was miserable when he was asked to play at that weight. That has been backed off of for this year. 312 is what hes supposed to play at now. Other thing is he plays 3 & 1 tech. His footwork tells me hed be dominant at 3 once he develops complimentary moves and fine tunes his hand placement. But hes got some time till that's the case

Do you know if there is anyone working with Nesta this summer to help him develop complimentary moves?

I wouldn't say Elijah Roberts or Jerzhan Newton are on a higher level than this kid. Paradise camp is coming up, so they will have a pretty good idea of who they really want before summer is over.

Ya I'd say Roberts is on higher level than both of them...Pretty sure Roberts can re-commit whenever he wants.
