I realize this will impact the UM alums the most, but many of you remember this great man's presence at many a UM football pep rally, Homecoming event, tailgate, etc.

A true UM legend...

William R. Butler, the University’s first vice president for student affairs, passes away

From helping to spearhead the construction of an on-campus wellness center to starting an initiative that offers volunteer opportunities to graduate and undergraduate students, Butler was known for his dedication to students. He served the University for more than three decades.

A great man that along with some fellow Cane lifers really helped permanantly transform the school. For some reason this also reminded me of when Rita Deutsch passed away like 5 years ago too. Legends on the academic/administrative side that really did care about the students.

My dad introduced me to Mr. Butler when I was a senior in high school. The first thing he asked me was how were my grades. RIP Mr. Butler.
