UGA fan's message to Canes

I live in NE Bama near the Ga. border. Every fan I've talked to (UGA and Bama) is flabbergasted and embarrassed that Richt is gone. Most are calling for McGarity's head on a pike.

When we jump out of the gate to a 10 win season with Richt and Kaaya, but Smart and ????? (they don't have a QB and Eason isn't going) stumble through no fault of Smarts to a middling season, then those fans will get their pound of flesh from McGarity.

People actually live there? Kidding. You're not too far from me.

Not all UGA fans are great. I've seen some really SALTY mother****ers on social media and boards ****ting on Miami, Richt, and our potential. I laugh at it because while we might be 'irrelevant' to those Dawg fans, our empire rose and fell since they last won ****. Sooooo.

/not throwing shade at you DAWGfan. I root for UGA too because the wife is a fan.

Just a little aside. I have a a 1978 clipping from the Boca News that mentions Mark Richt, QB,
as one of the of two athletes of the week. The other one was my son, TB.

DAWGfan thank you for the thoughtful post. I've been a Cane since 1983, and there are Canes who frequent this website who've been around since the leather helmet days. I think most Canes realize that Richt coming home is a Godsend for our program - literally. We have fans fretting over him winning big games while yet - because of poor coaching - we haven't even been relevant on a national stage in a decade. Every thinking Cane knows that that is about to change, and it won't take long for Coach Richt to right the ship. Had our TE coach been our HC the entire season this year there is a good chance we would be a 3 loss team or possibly even a 2 loss team. Under his guidance we won the games we should have won in spite of playing a terrible defensive scheme. With better coaching we hope to continue to move forward.

Coach Richt comes to UM at a great time. He comes here after the departure of a micromanaging president who literally ran our program off the track and after the arrival of a president who, to this point, seems to at least appreciate the importance of a winning football program to the national perception of the institution as a whole. A winning football program or in some cases basketball program is an institution's best ad campaign. Who Coach Richt is able to hire as coordinators and position coaches will give Canes another indication of just how serious our administration is about fielding an elite football team, but for the first time in a long time I have hope that they will give him the resources to get us the very best coaches.

To your point about winning big games, I have every confidence that Richt will at least have us in a position to play in those games, and by big games I mean conference championships, reputable bowl games, and the college playoffs. Why? Because he has experience coaching in big games but more importantly he has access to the deepest concentration of high school football talent in the country. Golden, God bless him, never appreciated where he was and never fully won the respect of many of the elite local players or high school coaches. Richt is home and by virtue of his experience as a HC will already have their respect.

So with a deeper talent pool there is every reason to believe he'll be able to help us win our share of those big games - assuming again that our administration will do its part in hiring his top choices as coordinators and position coaches.

Thanks again. Beat uf!
