Once again, our Defense cost us this but some here want to blame Kayaa. What a bleeping joke.
He is 100% playing out of position....its sad what they are doing to these kids.
coaching sucks...but coaching is not the reason tyriq is not better. He's just not good. Good coaching would make him an average player.
Herb Waters is a better case for what you're talking about.
Tyriq has one really good skill. Speed rush around the edge. Using him in any other way is doing him and the program a disservice. If he had gone to South Carolina or Florida he'd probably have 20-25 career sacks at this point and we'd all be asking why we missed him.

OP is a clown. MCCORD was meant to be a stud 4-3 DE. We made him a dud 3-4 olb

There are no 235 pound, 4.8 stud defensive ends in big time college football. Sorry.

But isn't that sort of the point? I mean, he bulked up (and consequently seems to have slowed down) to fit a position that he never should've been put in.
Didn't he have a knee injury as well?

The guy is being asked to do something that he is not suited for - square peg round hole. He's either setting edges or covering the flats - 2 things he is not really made for.
It's dumb to criticize any player that has played or is currently playing under Al Golden and his incompetent staff.
McCord is like many of our recent touted defenders. He looks broad shouldered and awesome while signing that letter of intent. Put him on the field and his tackle radius is laughable. Unless the play is smack in front of him and the opponent remains all but stationary, a whiff is a huge favorite.
Deon Bush is the same way, regardless if anyone wants to hear it.
We've had so many of these guys it often looks like 9 defenders out there instead of 11. It's comical to pretend otherwise. I attended two other college games on my recent trip to the Cincinnati game. I watched Louisville in person and Kentucky in person. While attending a game with no rooting interest it's easy to recognize trends and contrast. I was startled when I'd see defenders actually alter course in a short window and make a play that seemed unlikely. We specialize in exactly the opposite, kids who get there and take the wrong angle or flop over the top of the quarterback's shoulders, allowing an unwarranted escape. Maddening, and it has been going on for years.
How can anyone believe that this coaching staff does everything right in terms of identifying talent, and everything wrong in terms of scheme and strategy? That defies probability to such degree it's hysterical. Mediocre minds err all over the board. They pursue the wrong assistant coaches and the wrong players, etc. Lousy instincts and priorities. Essentially they seek their own level. Naturally we have guys here and there who get picked high and succeed in the NFL. That's normal distribution, particularly given our recruiting base. But it's not what it should be. Not remotely close. Once we get an ultra sharp guy on the sideline -- assuming it happens -- the dynamic will naturally reverse, with astute decisions across the board.
Hes a one trick pony, dont matter the scheme hes a pass rush specialist thats it
