Two concerns about Applewhite

I'm guessing D'Onofrio was recommended to him by Todd Orlando, who followed Tom Herman to UT.....my assumption based on reading somewhere that Orlando and D'Onofrio were friends.....anyways, not sure why this has become an issue...coaches make mistakes in hiring....Butch had to fire folks at UM too.
 
Again who the F cares who he hired for a defensive position . I mean could anything have less to do with what he would be doing here ? Just a nonsensical worry. Now if we were hiring for a HC I would be worried like **** but Applewhite ain't hiring a single person especially on D at Miami.

Donofrio just came off of making Miami’s defense the worst in its history.

This is correct:

To find the right fit, Applewhite leaned on the one person who knows the UH defense better than anybody. He bounced ideas and potential candidates off Todd Orlando, who held the position the previous two seasons before joining most of the staff at Texas with former UH coach Tom Herman. Orlando did not know D'Onofrio personally, although the two have crossed paths.

"You know your defense, you understand the scheme and more so understand the energy, attitude and relationship part of what we do as a staff," Applewhite said of conversations with Orlando. "I bounced around names. One guy Todd felt very, very comfortable with was Mark D'Onofrio."

I get what you're saying but when he was at Houston he was the head coach making those decisions now Manny's the coach here anything that get signed off is signed off by Manny

Manny is holding off on hiring OL coach to get the OCs input. What kind of input do you think he’s gonna have? It’s not an encouraging sign that a guy who hired Donofrio is gonna have a say in such an important hiring.
 
People are complaining about a hire that instantly makes our offense 10x better. Did y’all forget to chime in to our offense this year. Geez.
 
Yep, cause nothing screams a bad offensive coordinator like hiring a poor defensive coordinator.

You are comparing apples and oranges, a HC vs. an OC. I would be much more worried if he hired bad coaches on his side of the ball.
 
I guess the alternative take would also be that Rick made so pretty **** good defensive hires so it really doesn't mean anything in relation to one's offensive skills.
 
Look,
I am excited about apple's OC hire.

I am concerned about his judgment in having hired and rode with ONO - as HC.


He made a mistake. A big one. A really, really, really big one.

It's a legit concern and a front run on my mopery if he don't pan out - just being honest.

I hope apple absolutely kills it here.

Manny has my support until he doesn't. He gets the hype and the BOTD like Randy and alfraud did.

I friggin hope we have to hire Coordinators like Saban does sooner than later under Manny.

We are so much better off then we were set to be - that's the bottom line.
