Two areas to fully trust Mario in

Stack this Portal QB win with the OL haul year one and DL haul year two while menstruating canes fans cried about missing all of the "whales" for 6 months or so- everyone needs to shut the **** up about recruiting moving forward. ***** about taking knees and bro ball but talent acquisition is elite.
I'll again make the Butch comparison..

- Elite recruiter
- Great at roster management
- Mediocre to bad gameday management and decisions
- Preference for tuff fysical bro football
- Struggled his first 3 years finding consistent QB play

If he can keep on that trajectory, we could be in really good shape

Can Mario out recruit/portal his game day deficiencies? That’s the million dollar question. We will find out soon enough.
Well, it absolutely can be done and Mario has seen it done when Butch did it. So here’s to hoping he can replicate that. But I think Mario is fully aware of his weaknesses on game day and will continue to work on them to get them better. I have no doubt on that.

His hard head is his biggest strength and his biggest weakness.

The thing that attracted me most about the Mario hire was that his teams were 8-2 against top ten opponents, many of which were road wins. He's been the opposite of that here to date.

My suspicion is that Mario's gameday management works best when he can operate from a position of strength. He's not the crafty gameday guy who can snatch victory from defeat, but he does seem to be the guy who take strong teams on the road and beat other strong (even stronger) teams. Given the roster that he's been assembling, my hope is that his style of big game management will work better going forward.

Mario isn't a QB whisperer by any means but, Anthony Brown (a poor man's Ward IMO) won 10 games and had the best season of his college career the one year he was at Oregon. Guy is still in the NFL too.

I think we'll be ok.
Ward is actually a much better passer than Anthony Brown and much better fit for our current offense. I think the better comp for Brown would be the Kansas State kid we were after. Big, run first guys better suited for an offense like Joe Moorhead’s. Your point is still valid though.

They're at +7500 on Hard Rock Bet right now
Boom...I expect them to be in the 2,000 to 4,000 range...

Many on here want to downplay the expectations. I get it, decades of mediocrity. Mario Cristobal has a team. It's his team. He has the QB. No excuses.

I learned my lesson, I never doubted Mario's recruiting except for the QB position. That's gone now.

I overreacted and I'm ready to get the **** I deserve for this month of incessant moping.

Before we even go to the point we had to take a knee in the GT game , with about 2-4 minutes left in the game with a running clock TVD was breaking the huddle at like 30 or more seconds and hiking the ball with like 15-20 seconds still on the play clock it was bonkers
This. Infuriating watching a 3-year starter snap the ball with 10+ seconds on the play clock whenever we are trying to shorten the game. Whatever game we had the 8-minute drive to close it out he did the same f'n thing.

Very fair
And yes many similarities

I'll admit I was wrong.

While I have full faith he can build the entire roster to top 5 status, I had my doubts at QB.

I predicted when it was asked that we'd end up with a QB worse than TVD..I was feeling justified until yesterday 😂

I knew he'd go all out to get a QB and have the resources. I just didn't think he'd actually be able to land one.

I just thought his reputation as a QB killer and meddling with offenses (whether true or not is another discussion. But there's absolutely justification for those narratives) would have been too much to overcome to get a surefire/plug in/one and done starter.

Obviously was wrong about that. Would love some insight into Ward's camp about how they overcame that narrative and what they heard/saw from Mario specifically to be willing to put Cam's future in Mario's hands. But all that can be for another day.

Here's to hoping Ward becomes a high draft pick next year and Mario can put an end to those negative narratives against him for the foreseeable future.

I never agree with the QB graveyard narrative although i can see where it stems from FACE VALUE.

Although i can understand the premise because he's only had 1 good QB and that was Herbert. The inability to recruit great QBs consistently was more of the knock. Yet. I believe that has MORE to do with the fact that hes neither an OC, playcaller, QB coach, or former QB himself.

We have to put things in perspective. Recruiting great QBs is an uphill battle for a HC of that ilk.

Saban knows those struggles. He Just loaded up on every other position and worked with game managers.

He’s definitely earned the benefit of the doubt with recruiting/roster improvement. There’s plenty of room to criticize his gameday issues. If he could just step back and let the coordinators do their thing…

Yoyo, I ain't mad at ya.

I just want to point out, it is easy for people (NOT talking about you specifically) to say "I was wrong" and "I'll eat crow" after the fact.

It is more challenging, and less common, for people to hold their emotions at bay for a few days or weeks, and exhibit more cautious patience as the process plays out.

Again, even the biggest insiders and moistest slurpers had concerns over the past month. I've got the texts to prove it.

That is all. I've simply been troubled to see all the scathing name-calling directed at Mario and Cam and Reese during this QB recruitment. I'm bothered by knee-jerk hot-take absolutism when it comes to simple discussions.

Nobody has said "never be critical". But in a complicated recruitment, there is a lot going on behind the scenes that cannot be conveyed in real time.

Recruiting is not for the faint of heart. We have to be prepared to ride the rollercoaster.

Go Canes!
This is the world that we unfortunately live in. Completely binary, completely absolute and the desire to be first is greater than the need to be calculated and correct.

Hence why you stay away from twit X.

Doesn’t he recognize he’s absolute cheeks on game day? Feel like that’s obvious. Not sure how he hasn’t improved on that.

We all know my gripes with Mario on gameday. His resume speaks for its self. His game management is frustrating and has been an issue going back years. Same with his offenses. Those areas are more than fair to be critical of the guy. Even the biggest homer would agree. That said the areas where I’ll continue to blindly follow him is roster management and recruiting. He’s earned that.

The whole Ward soap opera got frustrating with all the up’s and down‘s. It dragged out much longer than I’d ever have expected. I’m even on record saying I would have moved on after the first week. To his credit he held his cards close and refused to fold. His hard head is his biggest strength and his biggest weakness.

During the process I kept saying i’d wait until it’s over before giving my take. I remained confident he’d get a quality qb ( receipts below ) . It ‘s year three and anyone with sense knew he’d go all out for his qb.

I think some here should learn to do the same rather than stressing for no reason. Imo he deserves better on that front.
So now you got your guy, great - step 1.
Now give Ward the keys and run the offense thru him and not vice versa. If Mario can’t do that then there was no point in going all the way out to Pullman, WA to bring this guy to Miami. That’s what hard headed Mario has to show me.

Spot on man spot on I don’t consider myself a homer but I agree with this. Needed to get Bond though man I hope he stalks him
