TVD is the problem

First thing why not just but Jacurri brown to run a few plays if you wanted qb runs

Maybe tvd isn’t that good
I was watching highlights from last year and most of his plays is Rambo making contest catches
Or him throwing to wide open guys bc the dbs busted coverage or were tired
He was never asked to scan the field and go through progressions
It’s almost like he’s a freshman
Bc the skills he needs to thrive in this offense isn’t what’s needed in lashlee
So it’s clear he was never taught
Lashlee is a one read system
That’s why tvd keeps staring down his targets
This doesn’t work in gattis system
There were a lot of guys open tvd missed
And he also led safeties to his target repeatedly
Never once did he look off a safety
It’s one thing to go from a complex to basic system
And it’s not like tvd had amazing physical traits
So he’s bound to regress that’s why none of his past achievements should matter and Garcia should get a chance
At this time
Travis is the best qb in Florida

He has looked really uncomfortable the last 2 games.

Yes he might be feeling uncomfortable with the new offense and doesn't trust his receivers, but there's also something off with his accuracy. Last year and through camp it looked like he was spinning it really well and dropping dimes. Now he can barely hit open receivers and can't throw a spiral.

Anybody have any idea what is going in with his actual throwing?
Im glad im not the one who see's this. Something is off, he seems hurt. The ball isnt coming out right and he's throwing with more arc when he needs to gun it in, especially downfield.

I agree with maybe 40% of what you're chatting. What I find worrisome is:
1. The Online gave him enough time mostly
2. Several of his receivers were "wide open" and he
threw duds.
Troubling to say the least.

Fortunately, we don't play TexA&M every week (even short-handed, they have a wealth of talent, and superb tactical coach). And "X" will return, and the WRs can improve (there's certainly room.) And if Mario & Gatis "game plan" needs tweaking/downsizing (more than the players growing into it) the football experts on the scene (and i dont mean CIS' able analysts) will (likely) make that case.

So, there seems to be some hope. And TVD can certainly do better & try harder (he did look uncomfortable and his running out of bounds avoidance looked a bit like he was giving "F" for eFFort. And Garcia aint chopped liver, and waits in the wings. AND we played a ranked opponent nationally and did NOT get crushed or embarrassed!

New offense, no Lashlee, no Rambo, no Harley, I always thought Garcia was the gunslinger and had a higher ceiling. A QB can turn to **** pretty quick when they lose confidence and he wasn't getting pressure, OL did a good job protecting him.
Not going through progressions is a QB killer. Last year he didn't either ... but he had Rambo and Harley and that's where he went with the ball. This year he is making his decision pre-snap, not looking at the field, not going through progressions, and trying to thread the needle into double / triple coverage. Not working.

One thing that befuddled me was, Gattis abandoned the run for awhile (completely) for a stretch, that had me scratching my head.

He isn’t married to the ground and pound the way people think.

There were a few times he went to the well a play to many with the run and it put us behind the chains.

I agree with this gripe and would like to add: WHY THE **** DID WE NOT PLAY THAD?!?!?! Rooster and Parrish played well, but took a lot of punishment. Why not let the nimble 240 lb back punish the defense? Especially in the red zone?

The lack of rpo with all our run success is baffling me more than anything. We got an easy catch for Redding with it and it is almost always there because these teams are aligning the SS deep on the vast majority of snaps. I just don’t understand. I was expecting a heavy dose of it because Gattis coached rpo heavy systems at Bama and Michigan. Get the rpo/ quick playaction going and throwing downfield will be much easier.

The players and coaches are learning each other. I won’t say Gattis is stubborn yet, but he has to coach better. With the way we are running the football, the pass game needs to match. More rpo and a bit less rollouts. They worked sometimes but put us in long yardage situations too (slow developing rollout with a throw to the flats).

Because he doesn’t work on it. There’s a whole article about it that somebody posted.
He’s trusts X will be open so he anticipates his throws to X and Mallory. Everyone else he’s waiting to see it be open first. That’s why he doesn’t look “comfortable“. right now he has to see it first. this results in him holding the ball longer then he should, he gets out of rhythm, like most qbs the longer he holds it the worst his footwork gets and then he’s throwing balls with pressure in his face that wouldn’t be there if he got it out faster. We’ve seen 7-9 deep throws by him almost get picked by safety’s coming over the top, that’s because he’s waiting1-2 sec too long to throw it, giving them time to come over and make a play. Go watch the Redding crossing route he over throws, he does not anticipate that throw coming open, he waits until it is open then throws it. That allowed the pressure to get into his face and his foot work fell off. last year his best strength was anticipating throws and letting rip. He’s got to get back to that and I think a lot of that just comes with time in this new system.

I'm a big believer in the truth always being somewhere near the middle.

On one side, we have the TVD sunshine pumpers that think the kid is still a sure fire top 10 pick and Gattis/Mario offense is an abomination while wishing Lashlee was still here (even though he got beat by Dan Enos this weekend).

On the other side, we have the TVD doomers that think he was a product of Lashlee's system and Jake Garcia is the better QB that needs to start while also believing Gattis/Mario offense is fine with no adjustments needed.

The truth is definitely somewhere in between both of those.
  • TVD needs to and can be better. But for those of you that thought he was a lock to declare early this year and Jake is the future...welcome to reality. He needs to continue to improve and bring his *** back for another season. But he's not as bad (or as good) as we think he is.
  • Gattis and Mario need to be better. The red zone play calling was a total joke. But we did move the ball down the field. Plenty of opportunities for Gattis to improve. But this isn't a dead offense in any way shape or form.
  • One thing I think we can all agree on is the WR room. It's bad. Simple as that. Mario and Gattis missed big time here in terms of the portal. This is on them and there's no sugar coating it.
It's too early to call for Gattis' head. But it is totally fine to question what we're seeing on offense.

Also, I'm looking forward to similar threads once our Defense has a bad game. We saw shades of it from the BCU game but I'm sure we'll be calling for Steele's head at some point this year.
