Official TVD comments on Hard Rock

You do realize the majority of season ticket holders and non come from Broward north right?

A stadium does nothing as far as getting more seats in the stadium. A great product on the field does. It's really that simple and it's been this way since UM started football.
Where is proof of this?

Either way, it’s irrelevant. To your point, a new stadium closer to campus will be full if we win. Difference is, the university will benefit financially a lot more than it does now in this lease.

Announced was 46k, but it wasn’t a great crowd.

I’ve been to almost every big away game the past 23 years and I’d take Miami (OB or HRS) over any of them in a BIG game with a packed house.

Funny thing is TAMU wasn’t even that loud. They look good waving their white towels but they don’t know how to make noise like south Florida.

TVD playing like a loser and talking like a loser lol. Good thing for him and Miami it’s early and he’s got time to redeem himself.
dude, so glad you support your team. It amazes me how many tools hang on this site just to be **** to players

TVD simply told the truth. This fan base just run their mouths on message boards and Twitter but don't actually go support the team and then have the nerve to get offended by facts.

I would bet that 90% of the people on boards and social media that claim to be fans aren't students or alumni, so why point that out when it comes to filling the seats.

We know it's a small school but there's over 6 million people in the metro area so there's no excuse.

And please stop with the if we win they will come. 2001 team was winning and still didn't sell out.

I'm sick of hearing about how electric the Notre Dame game was, that **** was 5 years ago.

I mean it is a tough year for the team the 1st 3 home games were dog**** teams that is useless to spend hard earned money to go see. But when it’s a good game Hard Rock is loud and a great stadium.
You can literally buy a ticket on stubhub right now for Saturday's game for $5. Sorry but if you can't afford $5 you aren't going to pay for a ticket when the big boys are in town. Using cost as an excuse to not go to home games is BS. you can;t find a better value in town for a sporting event.

I drive 270 miles each way for games right now ... not an issue if by some miracle a stadium is built at Tropical Park ... just another 30-40 minutes. I will do it. However anybody that actually believes once the novelty of a new stadium wears off that there will regularly have more fans in the seats than Hard Rock or the Orange Bowl is being disingenuous. The caveat above "will be full if we win" ... would apply anywhere ... and it would most likely need to be revised to state "when UM is winning the big games will be full or sold out". Doesn't matter if UM is winning the overall fan base doesn't want to see Middle Tennessee State. Don't now ... and won't then (if it ever happens ... maybe 10% probability??).

What does being a student or Alum have to do with being a UM football fan? I've been going to games since 1989, I'm a season ticket holder and drive 270 miles each way for games. Headed down Saturday to see if TVD can actually throw a TD pass agains the mighty Middle Tennessee State team. If it weren't for the FANS that aren't UM alums that stadium WOULD be totally empty. Students and Alums don't fill 30% of the seats.

I'd also like to add that there are so many people on this board who were constantly saying they won't give their money to the university for tickets until they start investing in the program. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't buy my season tickets last year for that reason. But as soon as they stepped to the plate and paid big boy money for Mario and then went out and hired Rad as AD, I renewed my tickets. They went out and invested big time in the program so I put my money where my mouth was.

If I understood him correctly, he was saying we are using the excuse that the school student body and alumni are small but that isn’t a good enough excuse because the fans are mostly not alumni anyways.

you asked for proof about something then spat out two sentences you have absolutely no proof of.

It aint his spot to tell the truth. This idiot is being paid to represent the U. If I were Ruiz and Mario I'd make him backtrack like today.

My guy its seems that you misunderstood me, so let me be clear.

I was pointing out the fact that people use the small student body as an excuse. You are actually proving my point that it’s NOT about the students and alumni but rather it’s the community that need to show more support for the team bc they are the ones online. Wtf man

I think what TVD said is not a great look but I do think he hit on something that is overlooked when it comes to getting people in seats.

I think a lot of athletic directors spend time focusing on pricing and variables within the stadium itself. I don't think that's what brings people in anymore, or at least I don't think many people find that attractive enough. Go back and look at the comments from Miami fans who went to the A&M game. The first thing everyone is mentioning is tailgating....pre game atmosphere....everything that's happening outside of the stadium. Most people don't even remember the game. They're there to get drunk with friends. Go look at any critique of a stadium and it always involves people talking about the tailgate and pregame. We're selling $5 tickets right now for the game Saturday and it's not going to be anywhere near a full stadium. So pricing is not the answer.

If I was Radakovich I would work hard with the Dolphins and a UofM creative team to find a way to make a University of Miami tailgate experience one of the best in college football. I would create an entire department centered around tailgate experience. I think there are a lot of things that could be added and changed to enhance that. If al the sudden word gets out that the Miami Hurricanes tailgate experience is incredible I think that is much more of an incentive than $5 tickets.

This is one of the reasons I thought Ruiz's stadium plan may be a huge benefit to the football team. I thought that if he could create a shopping/dinning complex in front of the stadium around that lake it would be a huge draw for people on gameday. Similar to City Walk at Universal in Orlando. This is the type of stuff I think you need to draw South Florida people in. You have to get creative. You have to make things an event. You have to make things fun.

Hard Rock is hosting three events over a 48-hour period this weekend.
Soccer match Friday night 8PM
'Canes game Saturday afternoon 3:30 PM
Dolphins game Sunday afternoon 1PM

That turf is going to be torn up something serious.

There is only one game in town in College Station. There are 10K things to do on a Miami SFL weekend. USC doesn’t have big crows either. Private schools in large metropolitan areas where very little alumni live is not a unique problem to Miami. I’ll throw Northwestern and BC in for ***** and giggles. Pro teams have more support because they pull fans despite of college affiliation as well as opposing fans attend.

Miami does better when we win and when we win there are more 3:30pm and night game slots which also help with attendance. I get that there are disadvantages with playing at Hard Rock (expensive concessions, exclusive parking don’t help) but when Miami wins, there is a bump in attendance. Unfortunately we have not won much the last 20 years. Who wants to pay to see Lucy pull the ball away from Charlie Brown?
These are all excuses. There's so many people in South Florida. I've been to the Swamp and Tally. They aren't filled with people that went to UF and FSU. People routinely drive from Jacksonville to Gainesville to go to UF games even though they have the Jags in town.

We're not a great fanbase. It is what is is. You can go on Twitter right now and see Canes fans trying to sell their tickets to Saturdays game.

It'll help you a lot if you just admit we're not a great fanbase and then you won't get your undies in a bunch when somebody calls it out.

Putting a muzzle on TVD is still not going to stop what the eyes can see. The fans are mad at the messenger but not the message.

And yeah I get it, he's the face of the program blah blah blah. But it comes a time when you have to keep it real. Attendance sucks and we all know it!

I don’t get the outrage. Does anyone think he let out some double secret info no one knows about?

We just invested record dollars into a new staff, proceeded to hang 70 on our first opponent and had about 25k in the stands and an empty student section for game two.

Save the disrespect talk, buy a ticket and go to the games.
How about we don't play cupcakes? People that live in cities have choices and watching Miami play Bethune is not something that is drawing any interest except from the die hards.
