Tulane's #1 Choice Is Dawson

just sell whatever OC on the fact that they have Toney for 2years to get crazy creative, while at the same time use our blue chips to dominate teams...

I didn’t even think about the JMU opening and him coaching there. I’d hope he would hold out for better but couldn’t be mad at him for taking that. We’d have to ante tf up.
They seem to hire smaller school HCs coming up the ladder and not coordinators. We shall see. Cig and Chesney had that background.

Several fit that bill and there's a JMU alum who is HC at Southern Utah and did really well at Frostburg State before that.

Jerry Mack from Kennesaw, Aurich at Harvard, Mike Jacobs at Mercer, Kevin Cahill at Lehigh.

Think they go one of those routes first.

As it stands now, I think Tulane would be the only threat for Dawson to take.

Think the pay is is a little lower than we have to worry for North Texas. He'd make about the same as he does here and we can go up. Hope Neal Brown gets it.

Also watching JMU for Hetherman. Think they would want him or Bryant Haines/Shanahan from Indiana. Same can be said for the salary there. They paid Chesney around $900k and that's probably not gonna be a go for CH. Broyles award caliber DC's launching pad to a HC job is much faster than going the G5 route at HC. That will be a 2-3-4 year process to end up at a failing Big 10 program. Broyles award DC puts you at a successful P5 program that loses their HC to a bigger program.

Not the biggest Dawson fan but I'm a fan of continuity and think having an OC in place is critical for our portal QB pursuit

I think we get Hetherman for 1 more year. I'd love 2 but the reality is that he is good.

I also would love to keep Dawson to maintain continuity now that we have found our groove and retain most of our key playmakers.

We are assured with Dawson that Toney is going to cook next yr.

Just get one of Sorsby, Mensah, Raiola, or Leavitt immediately.

Then we can try to get Connor Lew, a Top WR and TE, and a decent RB… the offense would be setup EXTREMELY well next yr.

Defensively Heatherman just has to get LB and a Nickel/S right and we are setup great. Still would want either starting EDGE and 3rd DT but… it looks good

One thing about Tulane they have some Biiiiig money behind them. They just built a brand new stadium a couple years ago and all their facilities are brand new.

It’s a great starter job for head coaches. The last few have gone on the bigger jobs.Willie Fritz who is with Houston now was the HC before Somrall.

Assuming that Mario was holding Dawson back until after the SMU game (and, I do believe something like that happened), if I was Mario, I would give him a raise, promise to keep his hands off the O next year, and point out that Oregon's OC just got a P4 job.

If Dawson waits one more year, and Mario let's him cook, he will leave, but it will be the best thing for all parties.

You guys said that last year; he has to prove himself after Ward then he will get a p4 job. That dude he needs to leave

That would be a first, if I’m being completely honest. But that would be a welcomed change for sure.

Hope it’s the same for portal QB too.
I think he has a short list for both, I would like to see Jason Candle or P.Longo as OC
and am very sure Mario has portal QB's already figured out

This is why Tulane feels odd going the coordinator route after two successful hires from head coaches.

Tulane's a good job, I've said this before. What they need is a guy who has been around for a bit and gives young creative minds a chance to shine.

Mos Def dawson style and cristobal are one and the same.

Dawson has been very successful in this cristobal seen vision.

Dawson question ? are possibly
Recruiting and some other pundits consider his lack of developing qb , but yet he will most likely have 3 qb he put in the nfl under his scheme to add to his resume to go along with top end offense

Cristobal obviously excels in Recruiting and can do more of the work load in that aspect but with said rumors bout Dawson leaving, i can only assume if that contract go,dawson way he will take it regardless of what anybody thinks. he a man that has a family to secure even more so then now.. good security with a good tag line next to your name.. H.C.

if dawson decides to go , cristobal has a great chance to upgrade what the possble former couldnt and that's national titles and conference titles to go along with top 20 offense.

Let's see what happens.

Sorry, what @skyman is referencing is from one of the midweek pressers earlier in the year, but he's way off on what Dawson actually said and meant. @TwentySix and I both clipped the video when this nonsense popped off earlier in the year.

IIRC, what Dawson said was that when we are in 3rd/4th and very short and in some of the funky goal line formations we have run, when we run the ball in those specific situations, Mirabel designs the run plays.

Somehow this got twisted into Mirabel either calls directly or forces Dawson to call every single running play.

@88 clip is in this post: https://www.canesinsight.com/threads/who-do-you-want-to-be-oc-next-season.202029/post-7928464
however, Mirabal is the run game coordinator

Another Arkansas Coach from the Todd Graham disciple Tree.

He'd be a great hire, but he wouldn't come here to have Mirabal dictating the run scheme. He's a Veer & Shoot guy, no way would he be on board with implementing our power run system.

And you can't run the Faulkner Valdosta ST Power-Pistol unless we get a run first mobile QB. Unfortunately, most of the mobile QB's that would be available aren't that great of passers.

That's a complete philosophical overhaul that would envelop the entire offseason installing & would likely lead to setbacks during the season. Everybody's all hot & heavy over Brent Key now, but people forget he was barely floating above .500 before this season. It would take several years to convert the identity of our Offense to effectively transition to that style of play.
