It’s actually the opposite. VT’s running game isn’t strong. Their QB is a threat.

Didn't know he was Redshirt my bad. But still y'all find the last frosh QB to come into Miami and light our *** up?
I'm about to go look right now.
Francois didn't light us up in 2016 either Miami was smacking his *** around and put his face in the dirt. I want us to force Josh Jackson to beat us.

Yea, the only P5 team VT has even gotten to at least 4.0 yards a carry against was WVU who has one of the worst defenses in the nation(101st according to S&P+).
As a whole, VT is 9th on the year in the ACC with 3.98 yards/carry.
Against P5 opponents they are also 9th in the conference with 3.73 yards/carry.
In conference play only they are 13th in the conference with 3.34 yards/carry.
In the month of October they were dead last in the ACC with 3.36 yards/carry.

So basically... we don't have to stack the box to force their QB (who is an average passer) to stay in the pocket and throw. Add in the fact that they lost Bucky Hodges and Isaiah Ford and it shouldn't be asking too much for Young, Jackson, and Co. to hold up pretty well on an island. Let Redwine play centerfield, where he excels, and let Jaquan play more in the box and rover type to help out in run support and getting him a better angle to run plays down on the edge where they try to spread out the defense.
Obviously easier said than done.. especially as much as our DEs take themselves out of a play by getting too far upfield and being too aggressive. If there was ever a time to call off the dogs a little in terms of trying to get up field as much as we do.. this is it. Let our DTs go to work and just set the edge on D and anticipate the quick throws, get your hands up to deflect passes, and chase down the runs laterally.

Their QB likes to leave some air under the ball. He has not thrown a ton, but he does throw the 50/50 balls that the Dukes of the world won't do anything with, but a defense like ours will intercept or knock away.

Turnovers are obviously good.. but our offense can't capitalize on a takeaway so essentially its just like a punt. I'd like to say if we see the turnover chain 2 times or more... we win but we can't necessarily say that right now.
That being said.. if we get them in 3rd and long I would expect more of the types of throws you just mentioned from their offense. Essentially it's a big play or a punt for them without fear that we'll turn it into points. We'll need to make sure we don't give up big plays (like we always seem to do) on the 3rd and long. Like opponents kicking field goals against us (they never ******* miss!) it seems that opponents convert 3rd and 10+ every single time.
