Our Defense is above average. It is elite for the ACC, but outside the conference it is above average.

The sacks are combination of the oline and QB. Asking a lineman to block for 6s or more is ridiculous, Jarren has to learn if it is not there throw it away. In same breath, it shouldn't feel like teams are nano blitzing every down.

When it comes to QBs, eye test and gut feeling. Jarren is going to be a good, maybe not great. The kid was poised under fire. He step up in the pocket, he went through his reads, he was putting in the receivers bread basket. The kid stay low and kept firing. Never got that sense of tight butt cheeks when past like some qbs( Harris, Rosier, etc) would let go of the ball.

With this team I can us running the tables in the coastal, and Clemson putting foots all in our *** crack. Man! We need some war daddies in the trenches.

It is a top 10 Defense. Don't kid yourself.
And it can be better once we get players like Silvera, Ivey and Bolden into the rotation.

This is not a top 10 defense. We have below average DT's and our DB's are average and we are thin at the position. When Bandy went down the entire fan base held their breath.

Go rewatch Dorsey's first start against Washington. Then come back and tell me Jarren didn't look as good or better. Kid made some great throws tonight. Had absolutely no time back there. When he learns to throw the ball away he will be really good.

I cannot think of 10 defenses in the country better than this one. If you can name them, go ahead.
Of course it is all mostly speculation anyway based off of last season and projections for this season.
I will watch this weekend to see if there are 10 better defenses but I doubt many will pass my eye test,

just held a team that goes 4 deep (by their claim) at RB to less than 60 yards rushing, and the next heisman winner (their claim) to under 300 yards passing and 3 turnovers.

but yeah our defense isn't elite /s

People that don't say this D is elite don't watch football. If we get any sort of pass rush last night we hold them under 200 yards total offense. The completions Franks made were when he sat back there with all the time in the world.

Some of these guys don't wanna hear it, I got killed in my thread for pointing out that our dline was a joke

garvin was no where to be found

patchan didn't do ****e

ford and bethel should have gone to town on a BRAND NEW offensive line with 3 star linemen on it.

But nooo we allowed like 52 rushing yards so they played well.... meanwhile even my hippie dad that don't even watch football was saying "that gator quarterback has all day to throw"

Our defense was in position to make plays all night. They ran for 50 yards total. Franks looked loss most of the night. Again, it comes down to making plays. The only play I remember getting straight up beat was the deep ball that set them up for the go ahead td.

I think you over estimate what a top-10 defense looks like at the college level. Vs maybe the top 1% of defense. There are 3 teams in the top 1% that’s UGA, Bama and Clemson. After that our defense is just as good as any team you’ll watch in the country.

Defense is good, certainly kept us in the game, and with 4 turnovers you’d think a team would run away with the game, which tells you about our offense. That lack of depth on D will begin to show as injuries happen as the season progresses. I like what Jarren showed last night. Christ, he could be treated for PTSD today with the shots he took. We are not running any table with our OLine. Not even an indictment of their talent, it is what it is. One freshman tackle we “stole” from App State, the other we force fed to get his weight up, just to line him up. What does the line have in total starts, like 20? We need some Jimmies and Joes there and starts, and it won’t come easy, even with a coach with NFL chops. So it won’t surprise me if we don’t put up 200+ rushing yards on the Chippewas or anybody else even with two guys that look like they could play on Sundays in the backfield. 8-4 all day long, 9-3 with some breaks. The wise guys ain’t stupid.

The difference between our new OL starters & theirs is years in the weight room and film study. All of their OL, regardless of experience, are upperclassmen. It's not surprising in the least that they performed better than ours, which is almost just as inexperienced & has only 1 upperclassman in Donaldson. Nevertheless, I didn't expect what I saw last night. Scaife never looked half that bad as a true freshman OT last year. This team won't take the next step until we stack our OL to the point where they can sit a couple of years before being thrown into the fire. It's too big a disadvantage.

Just so we are on the same page top 10 defense as in total yards? Total points? Specify so I can bump this thread at the end of the year.
