Transfers Market in NCAA

Works out well for us.

If we win we will start signing consistently good classes AND we are an attractive destination for these 'free agents' to finish up their careers.

QB's will be the main kids who transfer. Other positions, it's usually pretty easy to get everybody who deserves it, playing time.

to get that we need to be successful at recruiting and rely on portal very little, when u rely too much on it it possibly means u missed hella targets on the trail.
That portal should primarily be how manny fills holes, and secondarily a way to increase level of talent occasionally. I don’t think there will be enough viable talent going thru the portal to replace recruiting.

True story...the transfer market went down when Mahoney and cager entered their name in. Poor ISU fans that think they are getting a stud, when all they are getting is a dud.

It is going to be a setback for bag men.... at least initially... but they will always find a way to game the system

You certainly take advantage of it when talent becomes available regardless of anything else.

But the way to combat your own guys transferring and leaving holes on your roster is to sign full classes every year and process the dead weight every year. Always be near 85 guys.

In a equal playing field wed borderline dominate and that's what the portal shows. Now recruiting is the foundation but this portal is going to affect every school because almost no kid is a guarantee to stay locked in especially if they have leverage so this will get better for us

We are depleted due to many things. We haven't had a full roster since before the sanctions. Then the losing (and lack of bagmen) have been causing our upperclassmen to bolt to the NFL with 7th round predictions. If the transfers get us more wins (and bags) then we can get back to top five recruiting classes.

Let's see. As of now, if you look across the country, each team is probably averaging about 3-5 players entering the portal (from what I've seen, not scientific at all). Ignoring grad transfers since that's been around, and let's say it's 2-4. That's less than 5% of your locker room transferring out. That combined with natural turnover means it typically won't be noticeable.

Every year, some programs will lose big and others will win, but I don't see this being big enough to destroy the idea of a team in college football. The guys who leave were unhappy for some reason or another. A clean break or a fresh start can be good for the current program, the new program, and the player. Take Mahoney - he's gonna go to a G5 school and start somewhere rather than sitting on the bench here. UM gets back his scholly, and the other school gets a player they can have contribute immediately.

You'll see a couple of guys transferring from top schools to the next tier, from the next tier down, and so on. It really can equalize a lot.

Side notes: it'll be almost impossible to stack talent like the 01 Canes now. Like people have said, people usually transfer home so we can win big here, especially with the bag game removed. Player led locker rooms are going to be even more important, so kids at Miami considering leaving can look at someone who stuck it out and balled out when their time came.

Back in the day Miami did a real good job with the wait your turn thing while letting talent play. Players got their chance to show for nfl and get drafted even if the bench was overloaded. I remember whenever there was an injury, I was excited to see who was next man up. Those years of multiple first round picks show another skill Butch has, roster management. That said, vinnie might had left if Kosar had not whispered to him about leaving early.

This is the beginning of a new era of college football. There is now essentially a free agent market. IMO it all started with the Ed O'Bannon lawsuit against EA Sports.

Right now UM is able to take advantage of this new system but make no mistake, UM will be on the other side of this the year after our next ten win season. That's when we'll start losing talent. UM might fare better overall because we may benefit from having so much local talent that kids will often want to transfer back to their home state.

Where I see the biggest problem is that kids will submit their names into the portal as soon as they get close to graduating, not necessarily to transfer but to weigh their market options and perhaps force their existing coaching staff to utilize them more. THAT is when it will start to mess with team chemistry IMO.

Exactly. This is NFL Free Agency Without the Money. Officially anyway. Diaz figured it out before anyone else did.

Saban is catching on too, which is why he’s cleaning house.

No no Sabans cleaning house because people got tired of him. Trust he didn't plan this and if he did he'd have coaches on deck ready instead of making himself look weak right now

You get transfers when you need them but the priority is always on recruiting. Really hard to maintain proper locker room culture when all the dudes leave in a year or two.
Diaz clearly hasn't been happy with how Richt has assembled, and maintained, this roster.

Look at how the transfers have broken down - Kennedy, Martin, Osborn and Tate on offence. Martin is probably the only luxury transfer there, everyone else was a position Diaz saw we needed an immediate, ACC starter, upgrade at for 2019.

Compare that to the defence where, yes the recruiting could have been better, but only Nnoruka is a desperation transfer (and I put that at the feet of Kulowiski rather than Diaz - they gave him too much leeway).

Bolden and Hill are more luxury pickups like Martin that are hard to turn away (assuming Hill comes).

He knows that he needs to win right off the bat - he doesn't get a mulligan season. Transfers help him do that.

Right now, I feel that Miami is pretty much ideally poised as a transfer market destination. It's a team with a fair bit of talent, but it's not talent that is stocked 4-deep at every position. We lack depth, so guys can come in and contribute right away. You can sell the idea that the program isn't that far away from competing in the ACC and jumping in the national picture. Young and hungry new coaching staff helps to sell that. Obviously, it's a good school and an attractive location - once you've spent a couple years at a college town, come live in an international warm-weather city.

It's a good thing for us right now and probably will help us fill holes for the foreseeable future. We'll do better in traditional recruiting once the team simply wins more, but for now, not having to completely rely on a bunch of overly-entitled 18 year olds who haven't done **** to pick this school over others where bagmen are taking care of their entire families is going to be a big help.

Play the portal game right, you win.

Winning leads to more winning.

Thanks to Manny for being ahead of the curve, this is huge for Miami.

Miami sets trends in college football.

Like the 80's when Miami set the tread for recruiting sfla, we will now set the trend for recruiting the portal.

It's still early, but CMD has made Miami a top destination for transfers.

Who saw such potiential in the portal?

Fvckin' brilliant that Manny.

In total agreement that we need the transfers, desperately, now. I was responding more on a broad basis for emphasis going forward, for any program. You take the transfers selectively when you need them, but transfers shouldn't be your primary recruiting objective.
