Transfer Portal watch

Beast. Honestly if he were 245, you woulda heard his name by Round 4 this weekend. Buck Buchanan Award Winner(1st in school history). Natural pass rusher, fluid and bendy, great motor. Can run well and get it done in space. Technically, you can mow your lawn with a weed whacker if you needed to, but why would you? Same logic applies with Land being in coverage instead of attacking the QB. If he comes here, he's a perfect candidate to let Cyrus Moss be brought along slowly and physically mature(I forgot what Steele calls the position), and he'll bring at least half of those sacks to Gables. He'd be our best pass rusher, get in our S&C and reach a more desirable weight for the NFL...
Thanks for the insight.

We need a guy who is battle tested and a veteran hungry to prove himself at a higher level and this kid looks like he is dynamic, can play both sides of the line at end and loves to get to the ball with an attitude.

Totally agree he would be a good player to have in there as the Frosh DEs develop.

Great eval. Thanks. We need a pass rushing specialist. That super bendy, fast dude you let loose on obvious passing downs.

That’s why I explained the situation from last year , just because a player puts his paperwork in doesn’t mean they’ll appear in the portal asap. It doesn’t work like that , but the paperwork must be in by today to start process.
Tuesday/Wednesday is the latest time where everyone who has entered the portal should become known/public.

I was under the impression we were done with edge / DL types. Maybe a lb or OT if they magically fell from the sky. Last I heard wr was the spot to focus on. Coleman would be later if he’s added.

Exactamundo. I wouldn’t want him setting the edge on running downs in the ACC but he's well enough of a mover to put at LB in packages for those times. Covering the flats and run support in those instances would be fine, he's able and very willing. Passing downs, dude ***** on Verse(Semenhole FCS transfer)...

I like Agunde and Mesidor is cool and all but who gonna get us sacks?

I feel like @TheOriginalCane might know this and I haven’t seen this asked anywhere but what about grad transfers..they don’t have the May 1st deadline right? This can help us cause maybe we can grab some kids later in the summer but this can hurt us also and maybe that’s why some of our players haven’t hit the portal yet cause they are waiting to graduate

Couple of things...

The "Portal", in and of itself, is a mechanism that allows players to TALK with other schools. They can always pull out of the Portal and stay (Amarius Mims). Thus, the Portal is organized chaos. It's an avenue that allows "under contract" undergrads (and, yes, the LOI is a contract) to talk with other schools without breaching the contract.

If you think about it, everything that has happened between January and now involves guys who are enrolled in school and are working towards degrees. However, if a player GRADUATES, which is exactly what the NCAA wants, there should be no time constraint or waiting period.

A lot of this is new, and the NCAA keeps tweaking the rules, whether it's because of COVID pressures or Saban-lobbying. I am hearing that there will be a lot of people who enter the Portal on August 1 (including some Miami guys). It seems like these people would fall into three categories. First, you would imagine that gradl-transfers would be able to play immediately, I can't see the NCAA going any other way on this. Second, there would be guys who get hardship waivers, and the belief among players, coaches, and administrators is that the NCAA will make hardship waivers HARD to get, now that the one-time transfer waiver exists. Finally, there would be players that are willing to use a "redshirt year" simply to get into a better situation.

But, yeah, I do believe a guy could graduate and should be eligible to play in August, regardless of whether he notified his undergrad school by May 1.

Fucccc!!!! I reeeallly don't wanna see this kid not wearing Orange and Green. I understand the numbers game being played, so I can see why we'd be out of the DL market. If his decision were made in February, I think he'd be a Cane already. Dammit Land, take your *** back to Upstate New York and do Dino a solid. If you don't wanna be a Rattler no more and can't be a Cane, for the love of God, don’t be a ****!!!

A designated pass rusher? Kid probably weighs more than the 215 listed, but probably not enough to be an every down guy obviously. The huge comp level jump would definitely be a hurdle, but I wouldn’t be opposed. I think I’s prefer Coleman though if I had choose because he is a more complete player and the comp is much better. JMO.
Well if we’re gonna be an odd front D then you stand him up as a thumper then bring him on third. He doesn’t have to fit the traditional LB role. UGA and Bama had LBs like him.

That's just what I said. He could be injected into our LB rotation on running downs. I think he can handle basic coverage concepts and he'll definitely pull up on a ballcarrier...

He's a tweaner and a project who provides back-end depth at this juncture.. Great motor with elite frame for LB, but lacks size to play DE and athleticism or fluidity to drop in coverage as a LB. Hopefully they can land DJ Coleman.
^ I see Christian Davis who just got drafted in the 3rd round. Stand him up 1st and 2nd then send him on 3rd. Sounds like you need to do more research on the multitude of LBers that are carried these instead of thinking it’s the 90’s and LBers only do one thing.
