Transfer Portal - Baseball 2025-26

As I mentioned in my expected portal list, Puig is now in the portal according to d1 baseball
Assumed he was the odd man out as well. He looked like he was back there for the first time in his life. Weird move to begin with.

Any backstory to why he was converted? I thought he was a solid 3B coming out.

I'm not sold on DeRias as a front line weekend starter just yet! Lots of potential to become very good.A long way to becoming a consistent 6-7 innings guy.
Look at all the teams in Omaha.... every team has a dominant ACE! We need to get a portal guy, or develop from within our roster a legit Friday guy
I believe one of the incoming freshmen pitchers will become one of our four starters.
I like Evans in a relief role along with Dorn.
Can Collera even pitch this summer? I thought he was hurt?
Fernandez has to be one of the last guys on the roster. I'm guessing that he is pitching this summer trying to figure things out..,
Not only do teams have an ACE, teams like Arkansas and LSU have ACE plus a 2nd. Root to Wood for Arkansas, Andersen>Eyanson (or Evans) for LSU. Plus multiple bullpen guys who bring the heat.

I think DeRias and Ciscar can both be the #2 kind of guy on a CWS team. DeRias has the stuff for it but the results aren't there and Ciscar has the lesser stuff of the 2 of them but excellent pitchability and the mentality. Agree with the comments about needing the "Ace" of the staff. Would be similar to Hugus but a tier-up version. A top 2 rounder instead of the 3rd-5th rounder.

Rob Evans also has the stuff of a front line LHP but has never put it together at GA State, here, and even at Chipola. At Chipola it was walks and the long ball. When he was in command he was dominant. At GA State it was walks and the long ball. Here it was walks and health issues and he was never really in a position to surrender the long ball in relief appearances so who knows if that is still an issue.

If Mikey Fernandez can get some feel and get back to pitching off of his changeup instead of just out there slinging it wherever it goes, he could be a very effective starting pitcher. Probably means cutting down from 91-92mph to 88-90 on the fastball.. but those guys in that range with a good breaking ball and solid change up are out there dealing everywhere in America.

And obviously Collera. Stuff was there forever and then fell off a cliff his SR year... but its still some of the best pure stuff on this team (if he sticks around). JD and Laz could really earn their keep and by getting that kid back to what he was trending to be as a soph and junior in HS.

Interesting. We’ve definitely heard here that NIL is there for baseball, but I guess we are not seeing it. Which is unfortunate.

I believe the Mike Ryan piece to be true. Why? Because mention of it in the other thread was deleted. Which is always intentional.

We just continue to make excuses really.
We have one of the top NILs in the ACC. I don't know where he is getting that we are bottom in SEC/ACC, and laughable to even mention the Big 12.

Add Tennessee and A&M from last year, LSU and Wake from two years ago to your list....
UNC and FSU had some good starting pitching and the lack of middle and back end guys hurt them this year.
Add Coastal to your list of two quality starters. Well coached.

Would love to have Ciscar - who I am a big fan of - be your day 3 guy. DeRias if he can get coached up as a #2. Then go get a bona fide #1. I just don't want to see either Ciscar or DeRias regress - we have seen that way too much lately in Coral Gables.

We have one of the best collectives, yes, but the money in baseball doesn't sniff Clemson, UNC, FSU, NCST, UVA, GT, or Louisville in our own conference. Bottom of the barrel. Wake does it without it.

We're far below anyone in the SEC aside from Missouri. I'd love to see that argued for us vs any team in that conference. I would have to do some digging but I lean closer to we may not have half of the payroll of the 2nd lowest program in the SEC in baseball.

Big 12 we are below Arizona, Arizona State, TCU, Oklahoma State, and Texas Tech. Probably on par with West Virginia but Sabins is lobbying for and earning a bigger budget and he will likely get it. Even Kansas agreed to pony up NIL along with the offer to extend their HC. Cincinnati just had a booster throw some big $ contribution to their collective earmarked for baseball on top of their newly revamped facilities. They had a massive party at a bar they reserved in Knoxville in that regional and collected/announced pledges close to $5M from that 1 event. They plan to climb up the Big12 ranks in baseball because they can't do it in other sports.

So ya.. on par with teams in the bottom of each of those conferences. Baseball NIL is miniscule and we could easily jump into the top 10 range with pennies on the dollar of the football deals. Its there and the hand of the collective is open, but "allegedly", JD doesn't want it to happen or doesn't want guys that are looking for that. I won't pretend to know exactly where the disconnect is because I don't.

Then he doesn’t want guys who want to go Pro. Because they get PAID, and the Best, get PAID THE MOST‼

Like WTF?

I’ve been supportive of JD getting chance to manage and I still think he has a lot of qualities you look for, but if this reluctance to embrace the new era of NIL is anywhere close to true, then the program is truly sputtering.

If we’re not trying to get the best players then we’re cooked

Last years talent level was not Miami level at all

This offseason was supposed to be the time to level up to Miami standard

Stop it. We have the 2nd-to-3rd-highest NIL in the ACC. The moment you mentioned Texas Tech as a team with more NIL than Miami is laughable. They lost every single elite player from last year's team because there was no NIL and they shifted their focus to softball

The only school out of our league, in my opinion, is Clemson. I don't have any info on UNC, UVA, or NCST. GT, I got direct numbers from them, and they are only at 1 million, and 1/4 of that goes to one player. Miami has more NIL than GT. I think whoever is feeding you info is getting it from a wrong source.

I’d honestly be less concerned if our ****** talent was because we don’t spend…if we’re spending that much, how do we have this many holes on the roster?

I will attempt to get approval to share the info publicly. A former acquaintance in analytics has verified numbers for many players and basically projects it out the rest of the way.

Miami is estimated 6-7th in the ACC in this model. Verified NIL on nearly half of the roster. Fully verified data on 3 teams in the conference that he has connections to.

We are right with GT and 1/4 of our NIL goes to 1 player as well lol

So then we cant identify talent. We also know that you are likely skew every data point in favor of Miami looking good, so I’m not sure we can rely on your pro-JD agenda.

So we have money, but don’t spend it?

Or we have money, but don’t spend it wisely?

Or we don’t have money?

Why are we getting blown out by FIU and dominated by the state in general?

You ask very valid questions, but I must tell you, our coach is really nice, so I suggest you focus on that, rather than the questions above.......

Thanks, JD.

FYI: Arkansas, Louisville, LSU and Coastal Carolina are still performing when it matters. MIAMI. IS. NOT.
