"Tough Team Meeting"

All coaches sound the same when a team is losing. Manny sounds like Golden, Shannon, and every other coach. The fact is that you can’t and won’t sound good trying to explain poor performance. So let’s stop wasting time analyzing words because we’ll be the same people praising his words if Miami was winning, and the words would be equally useless. Words mean nothing, good or bad.

Negative. It's an indication of accountability; this is how you lose a team.

Listen to the first 3 minutes of Harbaugh's presser, above.

HC-->Staff-->Players.

Give it up. Most don't want to hear it. They can't tell the difference between making an excuse and providing an explanation. They'd complain if he said nothing, they'd say he had a bunker mentality.

Nah, see post #200.

His explanations reference the players mistakes almost exclusively while distancing himself and his staff from their responsibility. He might throw out the, "it's starts with me", every now and then but that seems insincere when he starts going on about the players or giving his..."explanations".

Team rolled over Bethune-Cookman, thought the next week was going to be more of the same.

Kind of understandable.

The coaches letting that mindset last longer than five minutes is not.

Hopefully a lesson learned by all moving forward. We’ll know for sure next Saturday.
Prepare for every game like it's Bama. We've been doing this stuff, off and on, for years: play down to inferior competition. Even did it at times under JJ.

I dont get how that's understandable? They were an 0-2 football team that finally got a win against a glorified HS team, they know what Bethune is and the 1st half of that game was miserable. I was on a HS FB team that had 1 loss in the 3 years I played. Our coach would never, ever let us forget that one loss. Honestly, we spent the entire year punishing every team on our schedule for the rest of the year. We never got complemented, we never got told we could be champs again, just constantly reminded of our terrible performance. And you know what? It drove us, we loved it, we didnt want praise, we wanted to destroy everything. Maybe its just me, but I couldnt imagine all the dancing and celebrating after beating Bethune or C. Michigan, it does not compute. Thats why I think I fell in love with the Hurricanes at 16, their team makeup was the most like ours.

Furthermore: not to say we should be recruiting at Bama levels, but I imagine thats a big appeal for kids playing on great HS teams. They see the fire in those locker rooms and people giving a sh*t. A lot of these kids are on various state championship teams, and if we are celebrating after crap performances and beating glorified HS teams, I bet they look at that like "nah."

I know what you're saying, but let's be real here. One of Manny's strengths has been that "he says all the right things." Well, today he didn't. It's fine to say, "We've got to get better, we've got to practice harder, we've got to make sure every player is doing his job, etc."

But when you're 2-2 and just scraped by CMU at home you don't say, "We saw some bad habits in practice and they carried over into the game," or whatever he said. That's not a good look. You just can't expect that to play well with the public.

I gotta be honest, that phrase doesn't bother me at all. It's more candid and honest than we've heard before. I generally don't pay attention to what coaches say as its typically rainbows and puppies, just cliche phrase after phrase.

I'm sure he sees some bad habits. That's obvious, it shows up during our games. How they deal with it, we'll see. Perhaps it takes some new players, those in question probably aren't good enough. I can't say, I'm not there at practice.

Its so obvious many of CIS porsters base their takes on their great personal experience with Madden. They expect a young team, after what happened last season (with 75 scholarships), and approached this season without a starting QB, installed a new system, with all new coaches, and the HC even saying there was still a disease to deal with; to come out of the box and be the 2001 Canes.

Bet the same fools think their girls are really having an ******, too.

This program has made mistakes in hiring, but to this point, there isn't enough of a body of work to judge this. There are some signs that are really positive, if you actually want to notice them. They're are going to be plenty of negatives, that happens too.

Manny articulated exactly how games like this happen, and they do every year. If you ever played real football (again from some of the dopey-*** **** posted here, it looks like a very few have on this fan site), you'd recognize the names for it: "Coming out Flat," "Trap Game," "Let Down Game," or in the NFL; "Any given Sunday." They don't only come after big tough wins, they happen after blowouts. And by the way, they happen to the Ohio States, Michigan's, Clemson's, and Bama's too.

Manny may be great, or may be a goat; but its a little early for all the Pitiful CIS Chicken Little's out there to proclaim the Sky is Falling. Step away from the key board and give it the season; See if he meets what the non-emotional (or hysterical) experts in Vegas called for : 7 wins. I realize a lot of you were offended by that 7 win statement, puffed up and said we were a 10 and 11 win team, but your unrealistic expectations just makes your perceived doom's day harder on you. Thank God you weren't calling the shots on December 8, 1941. Buck-up butter cups.

Cool. Instead of 13 penalties they'll have 10 penalties next game.
it would be progress. anyway i have been saying all along the penalties are unacceptable. some of the holdings when the runner is past the defender already, lining up in the neutral zone on defense, hands to the face on third down. these things are killing us.

Ok so youre happy with completion percentage and punting instead of tds against inferior opponents?

So im gathering you think that manny needs years to recruit and build a balanced roster????

Problem is. Manny is not a high end recruiter.

You really don't know what Manny is, neither do I. There's an old saying my pops used to tell me "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool; than to open your mouth and confirm it."

College Football - it relies on recruiting, if we had the guys who left early on defense we'd be **** on wheels. This progarm has been a wreck for decade and a half: with sanctions, players leaving early, bad coaches, and below average seasons. That all has an effect on recruiting.

And I'm a little tired of people over inflating the talent - compared to what? Your record says what type of talent you have. Guys who can kick 50 yd field goals in pratice then head case it in a game, are NOT talent. Wide recievers who are supposed to be your best, that drop TDs and fumble punts it high pressure games, well you know...

It is not going to be fixed overnight. So what would you suggest? We fire Manny before he's had a chance to prove if he can actually recruit, if he can be a good coach, if he can right the ship?

Its been a **** show for a decade and a half, our so called fans eat their young here. I played college ball - I listen to what he says and I hear a little different tone than 'coach speak', I hear at least the possibility of a path out of the doldrums the program's been stuck in.

And if he doesn't work, it won't matter. No one with any sense will come here to coach. Then you can trot out the old Sports Illustrated cover.

He has had 3 years to show how he recruits. Its not good.

Does unc have more talent than miami? What about app st.? Or wake forest?

Youre making excuses. 95% of colleges in the country would trade rosters today.

Watch Harbaugh's last presser. First 3 minutes...Dude kept it 💯

Seriously, that dude's team has been picked to be in the final four the last two years by a half dozen ESPN people, **** lucky he beat Army. He was supposed to have one of the best O-lines in the nation, and you're going to use him as a comparison for a 1st year coach, new team, young O-line? Jesus he may wish Urban was still at Ohio State this year, the way the Buckeyes have been playing.

Accountability Coach Speak from a 💯 underachieving coach, he's getting better at it every year.

Bold? You serious clark??????
Wow. Imagine being able to look up total talent team rankings in 2019.
LOL, and you checked to see if I was right. Hey try and leave this conversation with something helpful for the future always remember, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool; than to open your mouth and confirm it."

Checked to see what???? Lol ok

We are ranked in the top 25 of overall talent in the country yet we need years to beat unc and score more than 17 against cmu.

Agreed. People really talking about Manny and recruiting like that will save him. He's not a recruiter. He's never been known for that so it's not something he will ever become at this point. This is his first year bump class and he will be lucky to finish in the top 20 in the rankings. Add in the fact that he filled his staff with a bunch of non-recruiters and that tells me even more that he's not a strong recruiter.

People talk about Dabo getting time at Clemson to build but that dude was always a savage recruiter even as an assistant. Manny's not that guy.

Exactly.

Dabo, saban, smart are all big time recruiters. Manny is not. For him to win it will be with development and coaching. So the people saying he needs time to recruit i dont understand.

Richt was known as the best recruiter weve hired.
