Top Head Coach Candidates

My top 2 HC candidates are still Josh Heupel & Mike Norvell, with Norvell being a little more out in front than Josh.

Mike is only making $2.6 mill with a $6.7 million dollar buyout & Heupel is making $2.3mill with a $4.8 million dollar buyout. Those are both very reasonable & doable buyouts for a program that isn't afraid to spend a lil money, that's actually super cheap for some very good coaches.

The point still stands, my reasoning for favoring the 2 of them last year was based on their high caliber offenses literally transforming teams. Both Norvell & Heupel are terrific college QB developers & had had multiple top 10 offenses during their tenures.

We would beat the teams we're heavily favored against because they would know how to utilize the talent we got, which would gives us some automatic W's & put us in a better position to win 10 games, which would make us more attractive to recruits. Would they beat the Clemson's or UF's of the world in year 1? Probably not. But you can bet money with Miami's talent they wouldn't be struggling vs CMU or 1-5 GTech teams & it wouldn't take them 3 years for them to turn the offense around.

Even know as it stands, Norvell has Brady White as top 20 passer in college football & has Kenny Gainwell as a top 10 rusher (Gainwell was a low rates 3-star coming out of HS) & that's following last year when he had Darrell Henderson as the #2 rusher in the nation. He's young (38) & a proven high level offensive guru (put together great Offenses at AZ St), he's 32-15 at Memphis & is set to have them with another 10 win season this year. He would do great here IMO & we're making a mistake not taking the chance to get him before he ends up at another P5 program.

Same with Heupel, he's an elite QB developer at the college level with QB's like Sam Bradford, Landry Jones, Trevor Knight, Drew Lock & McKenzie Milton on his resume, and even now currently has QB Dillion Gabriel as a top 12 passer in the nation as a True Freshman.

I like both & would like to see us get one of them before they both end up getting snatched up by a FSU or USC, or some other program that will spend the small amount to get them.

I know many of you want Mario Cristobal or Urban Meyer, neither of those are even realistic options IMO, Mario will 100% be getting an extension/pay raise in Oregon & has no real reason to leave Oregon to come to Miami. He has better financial support & much easier conference to win, plus the pick of the litter in West coast recruiting with USC & Washington both being down & on the decline. And Urby was making over $7mill at Oh St before he retired, in order for him to come out of retirement you're going to have to pay him Dabo/Saban money which is upwards of $9.5mill a year... Yall know **** well Miami ain't doing that.

Great write up LCE, I really enjoy reading your takes on things.

Being that the natives are restless, and deservedly so, I think you're on point and we should take it a step further and kill 2 birds with one stone. Let's get UCF's AD White first (yes that means Blake goes for ******** the last "search"). This way he can pull in Huepel. As I mentioned in another thread, he's done great at UCF and has the experience at a G5 school and connections with his father being Duke's AD. Let's face it, we need a good AD, not just for the football program, but Coach L probably isn't going to be around too much longer so we need an AD with foresight who is already planning for his replacement as well.

I just thought it was funny how you mentioned Day served under Urban Meyer, Chip Kelly and Steve Addazio, but didn't mention he also served under Al Golden. Especially since Addazio is hardly a highly regarded coach. Seemingly you expected people on CIS would think Day's connection to Golden was a negative.

With all due respect to you and the coaches you named...
Now is not the time for another upstart HC.
Now is the time for a quality name, and a Dream Team staff.
We need to act like we want our title of NFLU back. We need a name that says winning and seriousness to the fans & recruits.
In no specific order... Les Miles, Butch Davis or Mike Gundy with a Dream Team staff. Thats just my opinion, because at least if you hire those guys, you are for certain to have the fan base behind them and at least a few classes of solid recruiting.

Gotta be honest, I get an Al Golden-ish vibe from him and Dino Babers. My crystal balls are tingling and I see a lots of 9-10 win seasons and multiple losses in the ACC championship game.

I am at the point that I want the program burned down and started over. I want a new narrative besides "this guy has ties back to Lou Saban."

Its like getting divorced but you are only interested in dating someone who looks like your ex-wife. Enjoy the freedom. Explore the studio space.

Leach and Kiffin are like that hot chick who is crazy in the sack and crazy in the head. Cheap 3 year deal could be a fun ride or leave you with an STD. Could be worth the risk. If Leach promises to stay on his meds, have a good time.

Les Miles is kinda like a divorced older mom who got a bit worn down, took a break from the dating scene and suddenly shows back up with some rockin' new ****, a big ol' bubble booty, and says she's kept an eye on U for a few years and is ready to f#ck your brains out.

Also continuing my analogy- Manny Diaz is a crackwhore. Her pimp, Blake James, tricked you into marrying her. Better annul that **** quickly.

Except Matt Campbell’s hasn’t won with his starting QB...literally. The last two years he’s used his backups and still beat all those dudes. Btw...how are you getting Al golden vibes from a guy who’s beat Lincoln Riley, Dana Holgerson, Gary Patterson, and Mike Gundy? And he has a DC by the name John Heacock who’s made Mike Leach and the big 12 look lost.

Neither are upstart coaches, they're young upcoming guys who have had great success at G5's but they proven themselves & are set to get P5 gigs at the end of the season.

This Mike Gundy dream of yours is understandable in a certain aspect, but the fact is he makes $5mill a year & has a $16.6 million dollar buyout, Miami ain't spending that kinda money & I honestly don't think he would ever leave Ok St. I get the Jimmy Johnson parallel, but I don't think it applies to Gundy, he's been coaching at Ok St practically all his adult life, outside of 4 years of his career, he's been at Ok St for 25 years as a coach & 4 years as a player, he literally grew up there, he's never leaving lol.

And while I do agree that a more established coach might have an immediate recruitng impact, but remember that's what we thought with Richt who had annual top 10 classes at UGA, but could only do that once at Miami. And a guy like Les Miles just got to Kansas & has an $11million dollar buyout, he ain't coming here.
Butch Davis... Stop it.

I get where you're coming from, but our best bet is to get a young Offensive minded HC who is cheap & will immediately turn around the offense.

The ONLY job Mario wants is to be the UM head coach. His agent was LIVID when Blake never called after Richt resigned. There's even a carve out clause in Mario's contract (a rider) that his agent negotiated which restructures the buyout if he takes the Miami job.

Don't discount Mario in this instance. Although I agree Diaz isn't going anywhere soon.

He was ****ed because Jose Mas had worked out a deal with the BOT on board. Flake made a move to hire this clown before Mario's agent was going to be contacted by him directly. Blake needs to be fired.

Dino gave Clemson some good scares. Should I also give him credit? Campbell is better than a lot of names being tossed out- I give you that. Question is can he compete with the SEC in S Fl recruiting?

Can’t say that but he can def evaluate. Found Kareem Hunt, David Montgomery, Hakeem Butler, Logan Woodside...it’s not crazy but he was at Toledo and Iowa State.
