What’s missing are clear demonstration of soft hands, contested catches, back shoulder, blocking. Seems like a weapon that will take some time to develop.

But this is mostly the same case around the country. I would say most of high school football is made up of average (at best) sized kids with limited athletic ability. Of course, there are exceptions with some of super teams like STA, Central, Northwestern, and elsewhere nationally, especially the private schools, who recruit players from outside their district or even state. For every Northwestern and Columbus, you have the Coral Parks, Braddock's, Golemans, and Miami Beach programs.

Elite HS programs are different. There are like 5-6 super elite schools that are on a different planet from everyone else like IMG, Gorman, Mater Dei, Bosco, SFA in Baltimore. Then there are 25ish additional powerhouses who can basically also destroy but arent quite as deep in the trenches, schools like STA, American Heritage, Columbus, Good Counsel, Bergen Catholic, Don Bosco in Jersey, Duncanville, Southlake Carroll, DeSoto, Lancaster, Bolles etc. Then there are about a hundred-ish programs that are good. But your average high school football player SHOULD look like trash and poor lil Timmy against guys going to a power 4 school. If a guy does NOT dominate in hs, cough, Dia Bell, it is a major issue. If the guy cant wreck shop in high school ball, dont take him.

I lived in the DMV area for a few years and started watching some of their HS ball.
Schools like DeMatha, St.Johns, Good Counsel, St. Frances have kids throughout metro Washington area, but as well from deep into Va, parts of PA and Delaware. We are talking 50-60 miles away.
They also spend alot of money on their programs with serious S&C programs, JV and 9-th grade teams with plenty of positional coaches.
BTW, speaking of DMV area, another school to look out for is Archbishop Spalding school in the Annapolis area. They are hiring college assistant coaches and strongly recruiting the area.
One of their alums being Malik Washington, a rising talented QB at Maryland.

Spalding is legit. They came down here (Akron) and put hands on the top program in the area, Archbishop Hoban 2 years ago. Hoban went up there last year with a team loaded with Power 4 kids and again got wrecked. Malik Washington did whatever he wanted in the game in ‘24. The days of Ohio being a top tier state are long gone. We’re still top 10, but not top 5 as they were back in the day.

Ohio and Pennsylvania used to produce alot of quality prep talent annually. They still do but not as many these days. A change in demographics being the cause these last 30-40 years. Alot of the younger people leaving those PA/OH towns and communities , starting families elsewhere like in the DMV and further south.

He might be my favorite recruit from this last year. As always, you never know what a player's gonna do until game time, but I have hope that he brings more Arroyo-like contributions to this O.
