Top 10 CFB Coaches

Someone explain James Franklin at #5 to me - hilarious. Always gets put on these lists despite the fact that he's never won anything except the Big Ten championship back in 2016?!
While I don’t have JF in my top 5, I think the logic is he’s been pretty good throughout his career.

102-51 W/L total, with two 9 win seasons at Vandy & four 11 win seasons at PSU.

Winning 9 games at Vandy was as tall a feat as could be, considering they hadn’t won 9 since 1904 before Franklin & had only won 8 games in a season going to back to the 50’s before Franklin got there & they haven’t won more than 6 games in a season since he left.

I was wrestling with putting him & Tyson Helton in the HM, but decided not to, due to not large enough sample size.

But no doubt he has a high upward trajectory, getting that kind of production out of Michael Penix (giggity) was impressive.
KDB is a future star IMHO.

he was great at Fresno too, and as OC for Penix at Indiana. And he has several D2 (I think?) national championships as a HC. Great offensive mind.

I think Lance L needs to be there too. The tweet in the OP talks about his time at Kansas, but he had some great Buffalo teams too.

Developed KJ Osbourne for us.

consistent 10 game winner pretty much his entire tenure at PSU. just doing that willl get you top 10. richt was that at UGA and he was basically a top 10 coach in America too

The problem with list like this is that just take the coaches from the top teams.

There are great coaches out there that will never get Bama or OSU players but could out coach Dabo, Harbaugh and Day all week.

Give Kirk Ferentz Bama players and see what happens.

Tough to pick, but all I know is that Lincoln Riley is the most overrated head coach in all of football.

He’s the elite of the elite offensive coordinator but the guy sucks on making head coaching decisions during games and can’t build a roster outside of WR and QB to save his life

Did James Franklins agent make the list?

He is a mid coach that gets his name floated for every major job opening and keeps getting raises.

PSU was an embarrassment in 2020, and underperforms their talent every year.

Great recruiter. Bad coach.

1. Butch Davis
2. Jimmy Johnson
3. Dennis Erickson
4. Howard Schnellenberger
5. Mario Cristobal
6. Andy Gustafson
7. Larry Coker
8. Mark Richt
9. Larry Scott
10. Jack Harding
I liked Andy Gustafson. Where would Charlie Tate and Fran Curci be ranked? 11 and 12?

Because he is a piece of **** and a bad human being. He is my least favorite coach in all of sports. But he is an amazing coach.
agreed. he's suceeded everywhere he's been immediately, and just did the same at lsu

dude is a dirtbag but has to be top 5 on any college coaching list or it's a **** list

I seen Franklin top 5 and spit out my drink. He is loathed by their fans too

Those are the same fans that said JoePa is god and nothing happens at PSU without his say so, then after they found out he harbored a pedo/child rapist they changed their tune to JoePa is just a football coach, how would he know......those fans?!?!

Feldman released his top 25 list, but of course the Top 10 is always the most interesting...

My top 10:
1. Nick Saban
2. Dabo Swinney
3. Kirby Smart
4. Ryan Day
5. Jim Harbaugh
6. Lincoln Riley
7. Mike Gundy
8. James Franklin
9. Kyle Whittingham
10. Brian Kelly

Honorable Mention: Jeff Traylor, Jamey Chadwell, Gus Malzahn, Josh Heupel

Who’s your Top 10?

Hopefully Mario will get his **** on this list with the quickness.

Mario went 5-7 last year.

If he had stayed at Oregon and gone 12-2 would that mean he's a much better coach right now?

These lists are silly. It's flavor of the month club type stuff. Just win, baby.
