In the past first start QB's have been a problem for us just like today started but we adjusted and they scored one early score. Gore was supposed too be dangerous, our defense made him a non factor. The biggest negative I thought was our momentum died after the Mallory penalty. I also think the officials screwed us on the int returned for a TD. I wish the negative folks would notice some other scores like Texas A&M today. With the portal every team from all levels can fill holes, there are no walkovers anymore. We were looking forward to next week, came out flat, got our act together just before the half and dominated the second half. Would last years team do this well? Before posting so many negatives think about how we compare now tp current other ranked teams and how our recent past has played out.

You don’t think TS gave himself up? He literally stopped in the end zone, looked toward the ref, and wanted to toss him the ball.

Thats what it looked like, he was jogging with #0 chilling to go celebrate, he wasnt tryna score, lol..

I can live with the passing successes that SoMiss had today. Some of those plays were chucked up prayers and lucky grabs by a freak senior receiver. That said, pass defense looks to be the weak link on defense early in the season.

Yes, TS gave up on the play. That doesn't mean the ref should stop the play. If he wanted to end the play, he could have stepped out of bounds or took a knee. You play till you hear the whistle.
Of course, but TS didn’t play until he heard the whistle. If SM defender would have leveled him, you would be crying for a personal foul. The point is: TS had no interest in running the ball out. And the ref called the touchback.

No I wouldn't cry for a personal foul if TS had been tackled. It was a live play. Just because a player doesn't know the rules or wants to half-*** things, you don't blow the play dead. Using that logic, Marino's clock play shouldn't have counted because the Jets had no interest in defending the play. Why not allow QBs to hand the ball to the ref instead of spiking the ball to stop the clock?

You think a Manny Diaz staff would have held them to 7?

I think it's within the realm of possibility for sure. The team we faced isn't very good and while I'm glad we moved on, this wasn't some monumental or even amazing defensive effort. Manny's defense though was very Jekyll and Hyde, so you really never know. There's nothing about their offense yesterday that would strike fear into any P5 team. I think it would've been a very similar point total for them.

Question is has anyone ever seen a ref make a call like that? How bout the returner who caught a ball acted like he was walking to give the ball to the ref and then took off for a score. No call on that and for us as soon as defender realized no whistle and his teammates alert him he took off.

hate seing the mope **** but we see the same excuses every year. again, Mario is gonna be the guy that turns it around. the biggest Q was the offensive philosophy. they said they weren't married to one or the other and would put in the best offense that wins. this right now as of today will not win big games and will lose 4-5 this season. we dont have the roster to maintain that against better more talented teams. we played literally two **** teams. again this may be different Saturday and we wont have to worry. a lot of people had this concern with the offense too and recruits. its why you had some that said they wanted to see the offense and I criticized them for saying that.

I’m actually very excited to see that in both games so far we’ve come out of half time with actual adjustments and dominated the second half

I agree with your point that we should be happy with a win, although I’ll say, nearly all qbs have been problems for us, not just first-start qbs
Good point. I think if manny was still here we fold in the second half. I agree adjustments are being made we all missed that. The Mario affect is tireless. Losing will never be for lack of effort or preparation. It’s all about the execution. I believe we have the staff to properly assess our opponents when game planning. I havnt been a Miami coach supporter for years. I support Mario.

Not to mention, I think he might have stepped out of bounds when he was somewhere around the 10 yard line. I didn't go back to look, but I remember thinking he stepped out.

I do believe they will be better at game planning, but folding in the second half wasn't Manny's calling card his final year here. We were more of a second half team. Game planning was a huge weakness of his. Every game we lost, but one, the defensive side of the ball had a better second half. Only Michigan State had more points than they did in the first half.

Either way, glad he's gone. What this staff does now and down the road, we'll see. I just thought the fold in the second half was an interesting comment. I don't know how many times I posted or saw others post wondering how they prepared for that week's opponent wondering if they even gameplanned at all. We were a terrible first half team.

The play was already dead then. They called it dead in the end zone. Well, TS basically did. That was such a strange play, never seen it before.
