Too many people are living in the 80s. College football has COMPLETELY CHANGED.

Because there aren't enough snaps for every player in that scenario. There will be kids who want to actually play.
Pay them enough to not play. Be realistic with them about their NFL prospects, and with $500K to a $1M for each get them to sign anyway.

It’s a program with limitless resources. An entire network (ESPN) backs them completely. They can cheat with impunity.

As for the kids who actually do play, I can easily imagine that they will eventually outearn NFL players. Which will be interesting to see once the Alabama QB is getting paid more than Josh Allen.

Manny aint the problem, Blake aint the problem, the UM Pres aint the problem, the Board aint the problem. We could bring back every **** body responsible for the glory years of UM football and NONE of them will do **** for the program. Maybe we lose by 17 instead of 30. Maybe.

Unless and until Miami is allowed to play by the same rules as Bama, UGA, Clemson, etc, until and unless Miami is allowed to build up the infrastructure and network of handlers, agents, foundations, churches and boosters needed to procure the services of the best players, and until and unless this program actually gets the required resources from alumni and boosters to make all this happen, absolutely nothing will change. A better coach and AD might help us win a few more games here and there but we will never dominate the way those other schools dominate.

We got threatened with the death penalty for Benihana steak dinners and yacht parties. Meanwhile, Bama spends MILLIONS on buying 5 stars every year. It's just how it is. Until and unless we somehow get the same carte blanche to do the same for all our Florida talent, nothing will fundamentally change. Firing Diaz, Blake, the Board and the Pres is just rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.
What a bull****, cop out excuse.

we don't need bags, handlers, etc to beat La Tech,FIU,App St. and sht schools like that.We have plenty of talent to beat ALL these teams by 30 with whatever we have and are doing now.

This is a ridiculous post.

Nobody, and I mean NOBODY is trying to live in the 1980s. If someone was making the argument to fire Manny, Blake, and Julio...and then coax JJ out of retirement while we reanimate the dead bodies of Sam Jankovich and Tad Foote...well then the poster would have a point.

The entire misguided post sounds like something a Gaytor or a SemenHole would write. There is absolutely NO REASON to conflate "living in the 1980s" with "demanding accountability and excellence, while replacing anyone who stands in the way of those goals".

Sure, there are 4 or 5 of the best teams that have undue advantages that are difficult to overcome. But there have been plenty of SoFla recruits who did NOT require dollar-for-dollar matching funds to sign with Miami. And there is no reason why Top 10 recruiting talent cannot be translated into Top 10 finishes over the preceding 20 years.

Firing Beta Blake and Julio is just the start. We then have to hire competent replacements. I don't know if we will win another National Championship anytime soon, but there is no reason why we cannot be a perennial Top 10 team that regularly makes the (expanded) College Football Playoffs.

Yes, we have received disparate treatment in NCAA enforcement and recruiting. But that is not a reason that Top 10 (or, ****, Top 25) recruiting classes cannot be turned into perpetual nationally-ranked teams.

Manny, you need to stay off the board and devote all your energy to coaching up the defense. Stop wasting your precious minutes on this BS. Also, lest you have forgotten, cheating in college football was much worse back in the 80s than what happens now. So that nonsense about cheating & building up the infrastructure doesn't fly. The big boys cheated their azzes off back in the day & innocent, little Miami still managed to kick ***. Now days, you'd have us believe that Miami struggles against App State, FIU, Duke & every half-*** program because we're playing catchup on "infrastructure?'' Manny, please, go find a mirror and practice up for your future gig on the ACC Network.

We aren't trying to be Bama, we are just trying not to be App State.

You are right in a lot of areas, but we desperately need a forward thinking AD. Miami may not be able to dominate in today's "Richest team Wins" world, but we can and should be a compelling, well coached football program. Think Bill Clark or Willie Fritz barely beats App State with the talent on this Miami roster? We aren't utilizing the resources available correctly. Miami has to maximize what IS there and we aren't doing it.

Willie Fritz is 61 years old with a 30-34 record in 6+ years at Tulane. Can we stop this nonsense? They went 6-6 in 2020 and lost in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Enough.

Tulane is a far more difficult job than **** near anywhere else. You are talking about academic restrictions, no funding, local recruits have zero interest. The fact that he's made them a winning program is a minor miracle. Then again, our fans think that a coaching record is the end all be all. Jimmy Johnson didn't have a spectacular record at Okie State, but you could see the potential.

I’m not gonna derail the thread any further and turn it into yet another coaching candidate discussion, but we absolutely DUNKED on FSU for hiring a coach with a career losing record. And I heard the same excuses. Hiring a 61 year old dude with no local ties and a 47-41 record at the FBS level would not be received well. At all.

Most of us dunked on FSU because their process sucked. Keep in mind, lots of things go into a record, including what a guy inherits. Guys that have taken rebuilds are going to have worse records than guys who jump into good situations. Fritz inherited trash at Tulane. Period. Guy has been part of multiple rebuilds. He's won at every stop.

To use a historic example, Wade Phillips has a higher career winning percentage than Bill Parcells. Why? Because Bill took rebuilds, and rebuilds, even when you are ultimately successful will take some time. Is Fritz at the top of my list? No, but he's the kind of guy that a competent AD looks at, because he's undervalued and the kind of guy that would maximize the talent available.

By the way, having ties to the community is overrated as ****. Get a coach worth a ****, and the community will embrace them. Frankly, someone that doesn't coddle this community and runs his program is needed. Tired of watching coach after coach kiss the *** of this community, knowing full well that the community doesn't give anything back.
