Toney TD…should be have fallen down on the 1?

Now that we won…can we just rewind to that TD. TAMU were out of TOs, should someone have told MT that if he gets the first yard to just go down in bounds around the 1? Three kneel downs and a chip shot FG.

For the record, I think what he did was fine, D was dominating and no one thought they’d be able to go 75 yds in about 1:40 to score. Just asking the question.

Are you ******* kidding? TERRIBLE porst.

A. The score was tied.
B. There were no chip shot FGs yesterday.
C. Remember what happened at the end of the Louisville game when we were within FG distance.

No, you absolutely score because what happens is even if you make the field goal, your defense is less of field to defend until A&M would get into field goal range so in hindsight, the interception probably never happens because they’d be kicking a field goal like three plays before that

The idea is that going down at the 1 means you run the clock down to 3 seconds On the following plays and end the game with a FG.

It Toney goes down at the 1, Texas A&M had no time outs left and the two minute warning had passed, so Miami could have ran the clock almost all of the way down to kick the game winning FG.

In that wind, no chip shot was safe

...only ifs on that last drive that we could have avoided was the roughing the passer penalty. That was a 15 yd gift...

but then again, we did get that goal line drop fortunately. Need some good fortune in every successful season.

I think he goes down at the 1 and allows us to kill at least 40 more seconds and we can then have 3 chances to punch it in before having to even attempt a field goal.
1st and goal at the 1 with 1:44 to go and no timeouts for A&M and we had at least 2 timeouts.
Get the clock down to 1min.
Kneel it to get it down to 20s.
Run it once to get it down to 15s
Run it again to get it down to 10s.
Kick a FG if we haven't punched it in yet.

Even if you punch it in on the first play you took a full extra minute off the clock from them.

You qb sneak to the left to center the ball in the middle . Then two qb sneaks to kick an 18-19 yard extra point . Thats how short it is. At this point the game is over with no chance of a loss. The bong chance would be scoring a TD and giving the ball back . So yes on a normal day it s the right call and been done for decades . On this day and this kicker , nah. Take the TD. The wind was bad but he also missed back on a couple . He was cooked .

In most games, i would say yes 100%

In this game, no. That kicking game today was dreadful. The wind was absurd and those missed were in the heads of players and coaches. Too much risk, and the defense had been lights out up to that point.

Yeah absolutely not. In a game where kickers were a combined 2/6 on field goals and the other team had 3 points and no timeouts you take the guaranteed TD.

It’s not like we were missing 50 yarders. Teams missed some easy kicks. And both teams struggled to throw the ball down field even due to the wind.

soon as he got the first down he could have taken. knee, or even stepped out of bounds and stopped the clock. would have been 1st down, miami takes 2-3 knees and kicks the ball as extra point. No
drama like we saw. But it worked out.

No need to get personal, I already said he did the right thing. Just asking the question, this is a discussion board right?

It's not a discussion board for IDIOTIC questions, though. Ones that only have one answer, for anyone who has ever watched and understood football...
