Toney (a positive thread)

I was concerned at the beginning of the year because the insiders were a little guarded on him and even suggesting that he would split time with Ray Ray - because I love Ray Ray, but I was concerned there would be a significant drop off from XR last year.

Dare I say the drop off from X to MT has been minimal?

Moore and Trader need to step their game up to roll with Toney in future years, he is that guy. Toney need to go help recruiting his QB next year if we going to transfer portal.
Drop off?

I can’t believe I am writing this, but we upgraded in the off season at Slot receiver, from a guy who is the all-time leading WR at UM!

I loved X but he was not getting open deep like Toney on the first TD, and no chance he was outrunning the entire FSU secondary on the 2nd TD. And the best TD of all was the one negated by the penalty.

He Is such a dude and has such a bright future. I think he will probably only be able to be at Miami for 2 to 3 years because the pros are going to want him bad the way he's going.

What's cool about him is also the time that he spent signing autographs hanging around the fans after the game and then his interview.

He comes across as a straight up sincere, honest, mellow yet also motivated young man that could be one of Ziggy Marley's kids. And Bob is his grandpa. I say this in one of the most sincere compliments I could give.
You realize that Toney will likely be drafted at 20 years of age!? With all the old players in college football today, a high school senior is dominating.

I don't know how this kid plays like a seasoned 5th year senior. He should've had that first deep ball, but beyond that he's been lights out.

It was also good to see that we could get open downfield on a fast secondary.

He is not a guy that was advertised as being fast. Everyone always talks about him being quick and smart. But on his two long touchdowns, he pulled away from everyone. Did not know he had that kind of long speed. For other teams, Toney is a problem.

And our HEY DIDDLE DIDDLE - AGAIN UP THE MIDDLE play calling is Toney's problem.

I’m hesitant to say upgraded if only because of the respect for XR, but by end of thisyear it could be case closed.

But Toney’s skillset for sure is an upgrade.

Portal qbs should be lining up to throw to him next year. I am biased, but how many college wrs would we take over him? Pretty sure I only need one hand and I might only need 1-2 fingers???

Toney is better than X…NOW.He would break all the records but he will be gone after year 3.

We couldn’t stop talking about how he does these tiny little things that are usually done by old veterans.

Not to pick on a kid, but can contrast with another frosh WR, Josh Moore. He made a massive mental mistake that took Toney’s TD off the board, and then later in the game had a convoy to the end zone but didn’t wait for his blockers. Those are the kinds of rookie mistakes I expect from a freshman.

Correction- I misidentified the player. Was transfer WR Marion, not Moore.

that was Marion on both plays

Was just going to say this. Watch the 2nd TD. Watch the patience off the line, watch how he finds the exact soft spot and whips his head around. He’s on the 100.0% same page as our 6th year senior QB. That is feel for the game. It’s 4th and 2, he’s not overexcited, he’s not impatient. Go watch that play again, and watch him the entire time. He knows EXACTLY how to beat that defense, and then when he gets the ball, goodnight. Simply electric in the open field.

Hand up, I wanted Trebor Pena for this exact reason. 17 year olds, almost never, have that feel for an offense and game. It’s why I wanted Pena to replace X, because this is Dawson’s offense. You need a kid in that spot who can feel a game. Not just run and catch, but feel the game. I didn’t think Toney, or any freshman at 17, could do it. I was way, way wrong. He is so ******* good.
Murray broke down that play towards the end of this (10:58 mark
