Todd Hartley to be special teams coach

With Hartley coming, I think signs point to Martinez being hired. Harley was a defensive grad assistant under Martinez.

yeah because Martinez will follow hartley. smh. no one on this board said Hartley or Brown was coming here so lets things just play out.

he has the look of an elite bag man. hope i'm right.

Hmm....He's never coached special teams before....

I hope he's aggressive - we need to be blocking punts - something that's been sorely missing for far too long....

Current recruiting coordinator at Georgia

#UGA losing two assistants to Miami. One as a co-offensive coordinator and one as a special teams coordinator. uga.forums.rivals.com/threads/tuesda… $

LOL all the chicken littles annoyed bc I'm not doing the "shill for the new HC who was fired from UGA" shtick.

I have no loyalty to Richt. The guy is a career underachiever who needs an elite staff to compete. Hiring your former players and staff members of a team you were fired from, isn't exactly what I had in mind.
This extremely ironic considering your screen name.

Read the SN out loud to yourself, preferably in a public place. Then you'll get it.

So a bunch of green guys.....smfh

It's special teams coordinator. Stop being a *****.

Yea bc those aren't important or anything.........

Freshman WR (from Florida) Isaiah McKenzie managed to score on a KR this year...He'll have more/better returners to work with here...I think we'll be fine.

So for 15 years we have had amateur coaching.....and we hire more amateurs and now suddenly it will just be fine?

first off hartley has coached at other places like marshall as db coach, as te coach and has been a staff support coach. special teams coordinator is a nice job but not huge.

thomas brown has done a good job with rb's at multiple places look at what he did at georgia after chubb went down with michael, marshall and that white guy. he is a good rb' coach. as for co/oc its just a title nothing more.

Hartley also coached special teams at Marshall

The postings on FootballScoop AND CoachingSearch say that Hartley will be ST coordinator AND a position coach.

If Hartley's made the DB coach and/or Martinez is brought in to fill a prominent role on the defensive staff, it'll be an enormous and immediate red flag.

The offense is going to be Mark Richt's. Do u not understand this or ur deliberately being thick?

So Richt is going to coach every position? Do you understand how a football staff works? How practice works?

You need elite teachers of the game here. We have been missing that for over a decade. I'm tired of having a bunch of wet behind the ears assistants. Sick of it in fact. Mark Richt isn't some innovative Xs and Os guy. He needs an elite staff to win. He's not going to magically become a national title winning coach just bc he is now in Miami without an elite staff.

There's a difference between being the worst coach in football history like Golden was and just being an unproven coach. Lol do u think every good football program has "elite" teachers at every position? You sound ridiculous.

The smartest thing you could do for your sanity, my sanity, and the boards, is to put him on IGNORE. I did that almost from his first porst.

agree, but I can't see Hartley just being a special teams coach. Wouldn't mind Martinez as a db coach but not as a dc

It's seriously time for you to go Richt yourself.

You're probably right, but I want nothing to do with Hartley having a prominent role on the defensive staff. I don't care about his prior experience at a program like Marshall. Miami should be above elevating someone from grad assistant to possible DB coach after fielding the most disastrous defenses in the history of the program.

Three men who were head coaches last year have been hired on D.J. Durkin's staff at Maryland. We should be able to do far better than making a UGA grad assistant who has never been a position coach at a Power 5 program (aside from being an interim fill-in for one bowl game) our new DB coach.
