To those who said Manny was awful at recruiting

We are coming off a historically awful season with losses to FIU, Duke, Georgia Tech and a shutout to Louisiana f*cking Tech.

Not even 30 days later and Manny:

- Has our signing class on the cusp of finishing in the Top 15
- Convinced one of the top young OC’s in America to leave a pretty cushy gig at SMU for our trainwreck of a QB room
- Landed the most dynamic QB in the portal (and perhaps America), who will likely begin the season top 5-7 in Heisman odds
- Got the AAC Defensive Player of the Year to transfer
This.

We can bash when it's necessary but you have to give credit as well when it's due.

Not to mention the new OL coach Justice.

Yeah, it's really unfair. Shannon had a QB mess. Diaz had a QB mess. Randy inherited a disaster he had a hand in making. Diaz inherited a disaster he had a hand in making. Shannon was a Miami guy. Diaz is a Miami guy. Randy fired Nix and hired Whipple, who set all kinds of records at Mass. Diaz fired Enos and hired Lashlee. OK, so it took Randy an extra year to can Nix, but still, the similarities are there.

Only major difference is the portal exists now.

The portal is just more visible. Players were transferring back then as well. The portal was designed to increase visibility and to streamline things for the players and coaches.

Randy Shannon hauled in the #1 class after his horrendous first year. It really helped him turn the corner.

lol That ain’t recruiting in terms of “recruiting”

Today manny ain’t good at it. On the cusp of top 15 lol.

Totally different circumstances, and even then that "#1 Class" - while good - was not quite as transformative as was being touted:

  • It was ranked 2, not 1
  • It was ranked 2 in part because of the sheer volume of players signed - 32. And if you break that class down it's 2 five star players, 14 four star players, 8 three star players, and a very high number (8) of two star players
  • 31% of this class was gone within two years
The class was a great first step, but Shannon failed to follow it up in 2009 and 2010 with equally talented classes.

That said, the class did help significantly. Miami went from averaging an abysmal (worse than this year!) 21 points a game in 2007 to 27 in 2008, and then 30 in 2009. And unlike with Manny, Randy wound up playing a ton of true freshmen in 2008.

Said this earlier and what has happened today only reinforces this...with Manny it’s never been about the offseason...it’s been about his IN season...

This is no different that the portal shopping spree last year, and the spring hiring of Enos. If it pans out, great. I’d like to see 2 years of consistent growth out of this c+ coach. If it doesn’t, we’re living the definition of insanity.

Shouldn’t lose a game until we get to Clemson in the ACCCG and we’ll see what we look like then...

**** we should be blowing out half the teams we play.... AS WE SHOULD!

Was ready to give up on Manny after the FIU game but he has really impressed me with what he's done since the end of the season.

What he's pulled off since the final gam of the season has been nothing short of miraculous.
Nope nope. Had a great offseason last year as well. He will get props once he delivers on field. I hope for him but on field action speaks louder then off season props.

He had to do this first to get those results next year. This is step one and he did a great job. He of course has to do it on the field.
