To the tape watchers, regarding OL?

I'm no OL expert, but IMO, I think the best 5 would be:

LT - Okunlola
LG - Buchanon
C - Woodrow
RG - Cantwell
RT - McCoy

I also liked what I saw from Hawks.
I believe with Cantwell and Buchanan/Congdon in the lineup our run game will get a ton more push up front in the interior
Cantwell at G wasn't getting any movement at all. He certainly has room to improve but he might just not be a G. I don't know

SJ was running right by guys he was supposed to block last year when he played FB. He's doing the same thing now at G. He serves no purpose at all if he can't win vs LBs at the 2nd level. He shows great feet missing play after play. Ballerina like movement to avoid contact
i agree about running by guys... so it comes down to recognition ... he just needs more seasoning
But the problem is he's also not going to maul buys at the line. So what does he actually do other than pass blocking? I say move on to another option with a far higher ceiling like Congdon

That’s what I said yesterday those numbers don’t mean **** to me. Just watch the tape. How Rodriguez was in the 70’s blows my mind.
Throw unathletic Beck back there and Rodriguez gets replaced. There were several bad snaps and Mensah's feet.

We all knew the line was going to be a work in progress. But I didn't think center was going to be this big an issue this early.

I went back and created Jacob Hawks, all 6'9 340 lbs of him, in CFB27 because he stood out in a positive way.

As did Owen Ruskavich whom I edited and jacked up his run blocking.

This makes me an expert on blocking dont you see, ask me anything.

The G spots seem to still be open for competition and we’ll have weaker opponents the next few games for the younger guys to get experience and reps. Samson seems locked in at LT and McCoy at RT

Hopefully by Clemson we see something like the following:

LT - Samson
LG - Buchanan
C - Rodriguez (although he has to be better)
RG - Cantwell (with SJ still rotating in)
RT - McCoy

Season 2 Agree GIF by Paramount+

Rodriguez looks the exact same as he did in the opener against Florida a few years ago.

Letting the DT lined up 2 feet away from him run right past him untouched. Cam dodged the free rusher and hit George for a TD.

2 entire years later and its the same exact thing, but its Mensah to Toney.

He just doesn't get it.

Same thing with Brown and Smith on defense.

They aren't going to magically improve after years and years on the roster.

They are what they are.
If they haven’t figured it out by year 5 then they will never figure it out. If Toure could return to the guy we saw in the playoffs then we could talk. But Brown, Rodriguez, Smith need to have their snaps taken from them or limited.

Woodrow at center over Rodriguez huh? That’s bold right there. For me it’s kicking McCoy in at RG and moving Cantwell out to RT. And that’s no shade on McCoy because I thought he played pretty good at tackle last night but he’s the guy inside that can start giving us that push we need and Cantwell is a tackle plain and simple.
As of right now Cantwell should be kept away from tackle for as long as possible. He's absolutely not a tackle as we speak.

I don't know if people are struggling to read the cues or what. Rodriguez isn't even worth talking about at least in terms of replacement. We can criticize him if we want, but he, Samson, McCoy are like bricks. Nothing suggests they are going anywhere. Congdon got NO run with those three. That suggests he is not even close--he is the oft-referenced Greentree All-American for now but he's a true freshman it is fine.

There are three guards. The question is basically who they will see as the two best. Cantwell was ok he didn't do anything better than the other two that I saw. His upside is physical and age. That is why I think Buchanon is more at risk. SJ can do things Cantwell can't--he just has a degree of suddenness and agility that the others don't. Nobody else that I've seen on this roster could get from RG to the left hash like SJ did on that screen to Barkate and I also suspect there is a reason why he is the guard pulling on pass pro on the first pass of the game also. I don't know how good he is because it's one game but it does very much seem to me that he has a physical skillset that they value and is unique.

Just wait until Rodriguez has another ****** snap that costs Miami a possession then you’ll want him replaced.

The main takeaway is that they don't apply technique correctly and consistently. This is why some snaps are really good and others are not.

The good thing is that it's fixable and coachable and will go away with time. What I and, in particular, Lance can identify on a per snap basis will be identified by Mario and Mirabal immediately. I remember Markel Bell last season as it started and I remember him as the season ended. His pad level and hand placement had the same issues and they went away.

The bad thing is 65 probably having to play a few more games and Rodriguez needing guard help to create push vs a NT that he doesn't really receive.

**** nah to Woodrow. I’m putting Buchanan there worst case scenario. And I’m locking SJ in a room for a week and making him do nothing but snap…put more responsibility on Mensah for OLine calls/direction

I'm looking forward to how they look in these next 2 games as the game film will give Mario and Mirabal plenty of teaching tape and the guys who make the adjustments in these next couple games will continue to see their snaps increase. Hopefully.

Max was miles better at G than both Cantwell and SJ who should never play again. Play #44 at G if we have to. He showed more ability than SJ. Again this talk about SJ can do things nobody else can is nonsense. He literally never blocks anything in space. He runs right by guys, did the same thing last year at FB. It's ridiculous and it's not new.

He literally never blocks anything in space.
Most frustrating tape on screen blocks I have ever seen, he literally is in position and can even prepare himself to annihilate people into the 4th dimension...

and then he whiffs or doesn't even realize someone is reading right for him.

Like, he's cat quick. The man can go. But when it's time to DO something, nope.

SJ should never play again at Miami. Max Buchanan was easily the best G. Cantwell also wasn't good but it's also his first game. Ryan was also bad. He doesn't get any push and missed may blocks at the 2nd level. Woodrow got way more push tho lost a rep too. We will need him. Congdon was ok but missed an assignment too. May have been better than Cantwell.
That is a deep analysis. Ok. Bad. Not good.

Insightful.
