Tin Foil Hat Time

True, but the thing that disturbs me about teams under Mario is they have a history of wetting the bed against lesser opponents. If it’s a prime time game against a top 10-15 team his teams tend to play well in those type of games, it’s the games against inferior competition where he has problems. I saw a really scary stat the other day about Mario and I think it’s a massive indictment on his inability to motivate his teams…

Since Mario took over at Miami, the Canes lead all of college football in losses when they were a double-digit favorite.

That is a HUGE issue, and frankly, pretty dang embarrassing.
I agree here on your last point, I just don't think in today's game the majority of CFP teams in the 12 team race are blasting past middle tier teams in their conference without resistance like it was the case in the past. If it was still 4 teams I would say those 4 teams for the most part need to be able to lay the wood and impose their will against 95% of their schedule.

Brother, this dude very clearly slipped and had his head below Cici's punch before Cici could even engage...yet, Cici still put his hands up as the guy tumbles forward and just secures the block with his body. The literal definition of "Holding" in the football rule book;

"the offensive player is using his hands or arms to materially restrict the defender's movement, path, or angle of pursuit, such as grabbing, tackling, hooking, twisting, or pulling him to the ground."

So, unless the ref truly, somehow believed that Cici tugged an already slipping player to the ground...its a ridiculous call.
To me it looked like #61 pulled the DE to the ground. Was the DE out of control? Sure, but in the picture #61 clearly pulls him to the ground and then briefly lays on him while Beck has the ball and impeded the DE’s pursuit. That is offensive holding. If Beck didn’t have the ball, or if the ref discerned that the DE fell without any force from the OT, then it’s not holding.

It didn’t turn into a 3rd and 18. It turned into a 4th and 8, because they magically picked up a flag that they threw. If you threw it, why’d you pick it up? So the only real penalty was the hold on 61, which of course they declined, and it’s punt time.

Off topic, but as usual, the call made no sense. We don’t throw the ball downfield the whole game, and Beck is throwing the ball well in the intermediate game. He had several 3rd and medium conversions in the game. But on the biggest play of the game, let’s throw a low percentage pass 40 yards downfield. Where was that ball for the first 3.9 quarters? It wasn’t a perfect throw either, but Marion had at least half a step and he was getting held for 10 yards. 8 yards literally ends the game. We don’t need 48. We just need 8. More **** that just doesn’t make sense from a strategic standpoint.

And all that to say, it should’ve worked because the ref obviously saw the holds, because he threw the flag, and the Cici hold was complete phantom bull****. I just don’t think that’s your best call in that situation.
Progression...
1- On a play where we need 8, Marion should have been looked off right away. As you said, you don't take that low percentage shot, especially if Marion doesn't have more than 1 step on the guy.
2- Down to Toney, covered (although we may have gotten a DPI here)
3- To the right...There's Jojo curling open just past the sticks. LB cheated left on the look to Marion. We can't see the D-back his side. Assuming he'd have to go through Jojo to make a play if he was near.

Beck was going 1 all the way.
Not good.
Second down was kill-shot time, not 3rd.

The game was filled with bull**** holding calls, whereby the officials (and maybe it was the same 1 or 2 zebras making those calls) assumed that any pass rusher that falls down must've been a victim of a holding penalty. Of course, that's not true.

I don't believe it's because the fix is in (at least I hope not), but because the quality of officiating has declined at the same time instant replay and technology and social media have engulfed revenue sports.

You’re right idk why I didn’t realize it went to 4th down and ended the drive.

I couldn’t see all the routes but Toney was 10-15 yards and Marion went deep. Both got held. So the play worked it just wasn’t allowed to.

Looks like Jojo was open to the right.
Beck has to look-off Marion when he wasn't open "enough" and check to the mid-routes

...to run another 3rd and 7.

Would love an All 22 shot of the play so I could see JoJo and if Beck even looked his way

The ACC refs have a secret gambling operation against Miami
Or these refs got piad big oil money with president bush in attendance. I just have a shady feeling with all the money smu has, home game, homecoming. A lot of the calls were too obvious in favor of helping smu. A good friend of mine lives down south and lives next to SEC ref and one Tuesday he got a brand-new boat. Nobody else in the neighborhod buying brand new boats.. refs get paid and have gambling debts

You can add this play as well:

We do realize that Trader initiated the contact by literally running into the defender, shoulder first, knocking him down which caused him to reach out & grab Trader on instinct falling down, correct?

See, this is y I have to be the bad guy on this board. If I’m a ref seeing this, this is a wash play. If Trader was actually trying to run a route & he got pulled down then I’m calling P.I/holding, but in fact Trader was not trying to run a route, he was creating a pick for Toney. By all accounts this could’ve easily been called O-PI had the ball gone to Toney.

This is one of those times though I disagree often with you I have to give you a 💯 here.
