Tin Foil Hat Time

Right? I just can’t shake this one. Look at Toney in the middle of the field in the clip I posted, too. He’s bear hugged and clearly held. I don’t even care much about that because that does get missed. Again, I keep going back to the conversation I had with a literal ACC official. It’s like the last possession in a basketball game, the refs have a propensity to swallow the whistle. So you don’t wanna call Toney being held, ok. Awful, but you’re not making a call. But to make this holding call on what is nowhere ******* near a hold….this one’s killing me more than any in recent memory.

In the grand scheme, honestly if they don’t call this and pick up the DPI, the result is the same. But this just smells so bad to me. No matter what, it’s gonna be 3rd and 18. Watch this.
I think PICKING UP a defensive holding where a player can be seen to suddenly slow down is worse.

I don’t care, though. Up 17-14 with the ball and then 20-17 with the ball, you have to do whatever is necessary to make the kill.

I just happened to be looking at that spot when it happened and when I saw the flag I screamed WTF! No way that was holding. It’s obvious the DE slips and Cici takes advantage of it and if nothing else that’s a pancake.
Cici also probably had a reflex move to protect his knees if that player was going end up awkwardly in that area, thus falling forward. But of course, the morons that the ACC has as officials, you wouldn’t expect any understanding from them, especially when they are biased against us.

People will come at you for pointing out egregious officiating, but they are telling on themselves at that point. People are allowed to ***** about coaching and the refs.

Two things can be true at once:

1) We deserved to lose the game because of all the self-inflicted mistakes. Mario, once again, couldn’t get his team motivated to show up against an average ACC team. It’s all on him.

AND

2) The officials were ******* horrendous. They bailed out SMU multiple times and kept them in the game. Anyone who’s not an SMU fan will admit this. ****, even some of them will admit they were lucky. I was in the “Miami” section of the stadium, surrounded by mostly Canes. There were four SMU fans in front of me. After the PI was picked up and everyone started booing, they just laughed and shrugged their shoulders like “oh well.” They didn’t even try to argue that it wasn’t a PI. They knew it was.

And that’s just one example. What about what happened to Jojo in the end zone? The reversed fumble? The roughing the passer? I could go on and on. The refs were garbage. Mario should have taken the fine and lit into them publicly because it’s bull****. It was so bad that you have to wonder if one of them had money on the game because how could the officiating be so bad in one direction?

Regardless, we let them hang around, leaving the game in the hands of the refs. And that’s on Mario. I wasn’t alive in the 80s, but Jimmy Johnson was right when he said what he said after the Gary fumble in 88.
This is exactly where I'm at. There's no excuse for our performance at all, but those officials are awful.

The referees aren't incompetent.

The referees are being intentional.

Clearly, the defender lost his footing as he was about to make contact. Love the former GT running back saying he slammed him down. What is he drinking? Couldn’t tell from the video where the official who threw the flag was positioned. Not sure his angle & what he saw. Guess is official made an assumption & panicked. Horrible call.
Roddy jones is the absolute worst and shouldn't be allowed to call canes games as he is constantly lobbying for penalties and plays against the canes. How the **** does slamming him down make any sense? I'm sure francis is a strong guy, but picking up a DE upright and slamming him down face first is a cartoonish idea.

No doubt. I just have a real hard time shaking this feeling that buddy was throwing that no matter what. It’s the last consequential play of the game, we’ve got 2 months of guys being held and it never being called, and THAT is the hold you call? Just makes no sense to me.

By the way, for anyone scoring at home, we are now 132nd in opponent penalties called, and 133rd in opponent penalty yardage.

SMU had 1 penalty for 5 yards in the first half, and it actually GAINED them 30 yards of field position.

You really can’t even make this **** up. One penalty, and it helped them by a third of the field. What????

That video clip of Roddy Jones claiming the defender was slammed down is as bad as the official’s call. The guy slipped & lost his footing as he face planted at CiCi’s feet. Lose my mind whenever he and the 305 clown with him call a game. We had them back-to-back weeks & the way things are going they’ll call the Syracuse game.

What I don’t understand is why the ACC would want to mess with Miami? Why would they want one of the flagship programs, from a national standpoint, to lose in favor of school like Virginia or SMU? The whole point of Miami joining the ACC was so the conference could try to have Miami-Florida State conference championship games.

The conference is lucky Clemson had a run of national championship appearances, and a couple titles.

Not that anything the ACC does makes any sense.

I blame the team/coaches on the pre snap penalties but even my Gator friend said this isn’t holding, the no call on Marion DPI and the ‘blown whistle’ ‘hit’ by Lightfoot was bull****. Those were penalties that changed the momentum of the game
Those two plays are why/how SMU won (aside from the gazillion other things regarding Mario they’ve been mentioned).

It’s not a hold. The defender loses his feet and is rewarded because the ref who threw flag obviously isn’t in position to see it clearly. That’s the Marion play where they picked up the DPI too. Not only should it have been at worst offsetting, we should have been given 15 yards and a 1st down.

If they are truly graded the way you say then that should be the worst grade they could for the entire game. The hold which is wrong, and then picking up a DPI after throwing it correctly.
If they are graded for poor performances, one must ask, are any of them getting paid for poor performances on the side? I ask, because no one would make some of these calls knowing they'd only get in trouble for it. Feels like a slap on the wrist isn't as great as a grease of the palm.

This is exactly what’s happening. Honestly you’d have to be legitimately retarted to think otherwise. Or a total rube…

The hold was actually on Bell.

Refs will sometimes call holding on an OLineman if they think he tackled the rusher & didn't allow him to get up.

So maybe they got the # wrong, but the actual hold on that play was by #70.

There is no conspiracy.

We lost because our QB threw a pick in OT at the 1yd line because he can't read DB's on In-cutting routes & routinely underthrows his WR's allowing for the route to be undercut.

With sports gambling legal, and apps set up to have you glued to them the entire time a games playing, major scandals are gona happen. If it’s happened in the NBA you can bet it’s happening in a league where it’s a part time job for the officials. Won’t be surprised if there’s a betting scandal in every major sport in the next five years.

So they mixed up two very similar numbers, 61 and 70? Nah.

We didn’t lose because of this play. I made that very clear. But it’s pretty insane this was called, especially at this point in the game.

No different than his UC against LVille where a half hearted shove and the guy went flying. Officials tossed a flag on an obvious dive. Next play CJ gets punched in the face right in front of the official who just looks at it and does nothing.
