Jeremy Pruitt might be out of a job as there is a good chance Judge (Giants) and his staff gets axed. Not sure if Cristobal and Pruitt over lapped at Bama.
He's a good DC but he's bounced around a lot and supposedly a pretty awful person. And he's already in trouble with the NCAA for violations that occurred at Tennessee.

I'm so intrigued by Schumann and they overlapped at Bama for a bit - I'm just not sure we can afford the risk of a first time DC

If Mario were Kirby Smart and had a DC background - sure

I'd still almost pull the trigger knowing what I do about Schumann. Very bright dude with a long future as a DC
Agreed. It's a risk but **** would that be a potential huge payout if he succeeds.

I also honestly don't believe it'll be ALL that risky considering it's the ACC. You have two less offenses to worry about with Pickett and Howell gone. Clemson's offense just isn't the same but I do think Leary and Armstrong will be studs next year. Schumann has the potential to learn a little on the job next year with a manageable schedule.

As we all know, Mario's success largely hinges on who he hires at DC and OC. So here's a tiered list of the DC options that he may potentially explore.

Tier 1 - Mario's Guys: Previously worked for Mario. Very high chance these guys are available.

Todd Orlando (ex-USC DC) - Worked under Mario as his DC back in 2011-2012. Was USC DC this season and wasn't retained. He's jumped around a lot. Would be an underwhelming hire but certainly not the worst option.

Jim Leavitt (SMU DC) - Worked with Mario on Taggart's staff back in Oregon. Currently the SMU DC. Tbd on whether Lashlee retains him. We can do better.

Tim DeRuyter (Oregon DC) - Hired by Mario in 2019 to be Oregon's new DC. Technically still the Oregon DC. He's a Pac 12 lifer and west coast guy. Hopefully we don't even think about this option.

Tier 2 - The Big Name Guys: These are the big names that any program with a vacant DC would love to have but would have to pony up some serious cash. No immediate ties to Mario.

Will Muschamp (Georgia DA)- One of the bigger names that's on the market. Currently a Defensive Analyst at Georgia. Former LSU, Auburn, Texas DC and USCe HC. Hot headed and not easy to work with. But would raise a ton of eyebrows and certainly scare most ACC OCs.

Jim Leonhard (Wisconsin DC) - Everybody wants him. Only Wisconsin can have him. Unless...maybe you make him the highest paid DC? Would be worth EVERY penny.

The Iowa Guys (ISU & Iowa) - Two other big names out of the Big 10 are Heacock (ISU) and Parker (Iowa). Both have spent their entire careers in the midwest. Not as big of names as the other two but their defenses consistently rank among the best year in year out....just not sure their defenses would fit at Miami.

Jim Knowles (Ok State DC) - Previous Duke DC and has turned OK State defense into a monster with limited talent. UF pursuing but Gundy is trying to keep him. Maybe Mario hops into the picture with a big check? Worth it!

Todd Grantham (Unemployed) - Just kidding. **** no.

Tier 3 - The Underrated Guys: - These guys coach at smaller programs or just don't get the same level of respect of some of the above names. No immediate ties to Mario.

Mike Tressel (Cincinnati DC) - Kept Freeman/Fickell's system in place and has done a masterful job this year. Lots of Big10/Ohio guys on this list. Jeeze. Wouldn't be mad about this hire.

Zach Arnett (Miss State DC) - Led a fantastic defense at SDSU and brought that to Miss State. Young and exciting coach. Mike Leach actually had a decent defense. Who woulda thunk it? You could also add Kurt Mattix, current SDSU DC to this list.

Doug Belk (Houston DC) - Fan favorite. Exciting young coach with a mean pass rush and pairs that with solid recruiting. But does he have enough experience? With only 1 year under his belt as playcaller this would be a little risky.

Glenn Schumann (Georgia Co-DC/ILB) - I wasn't really sure where to put him. He doesn't get as much respect as Lanning does since he's Co-DC but there's a chance he takes over for as DC in the case that Lanning gets a HC role. That is unless Muschamp takes the role. Miami could be an opportunity to cut to the front of the line and earn your stripes as a playcaller.

David Reeves (UAB DC) - No one really talks about UAB but Bill Clark's been putting out great defenses for a while. Reeves has been the DC there for quite some time.

Brad Lambert (Purdue DC) - Was at Marshall last year where he led a really strong defense and has carried that success over to Purdue this year.

Zero question about this - You do what Ed O did with Aranda, and offer to make Leonhard one of the highest paid DCs in the country. The schedule is set for a playoff run next year. Clemson is down a OC and DC (and maybe HC) , just have to get through TAMU for an undefeated regular season. Go all in for next year and try to catch lightning in a bottle like LSU did in 2019.

Besides the potential hiring of Mirabal, a source said Cristobal has interest in former UM defensive line coach Clint Hurtt, who now holds the same position with the Seattle Seahawks. Defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson, who has time left on his contract, has a decent chance to be retained, a source said. Incidentally, tight ends coach Stephen Field previously spent one season with Cristobal at Oregon before joining Miami.

Listen. Mario is a fckng low key gangsta that knows cfb very well.
This has been going on for over a month and I’m sure he has a list of dudes he’s contacted and have told him “if you agree to the job this is my price and I’m in”.

He will have a staff in place faster than most people think. No way he took the job and is gonna start calling people now.
