Thursday Recruiting Chatter - 1/31

Well you're operating like Emerson is considering education as part of the decision making. Unless he said that or you know him, why do you think that matters to him?
You are doing the same thing, but on the other side of the argument. You think he doesn't care about academics

**After feeling good about Miami coming out of his official visit weekend, momentum has shifted back in favor of Mississippi State for S Martin Emerson. After checking in with a source close to the recruitment, I am comfortable flipping my pick to the Bulldogs here.

**Things are trending in the right direction with UCLA DE transfer Jaelan Phillips and it seems he is a take for Miami after talking to a team source. If I could put in a Miami pick for him I would. I have heard nothing new regarding VT DE transfer Trevon Hill's situation.

**There’s a few guys still on the board that seem like 50-50 toss ups right now, and those would be CB Christian Williams and OT Darius Washington. While I haven’t heard enough to make a pick either way, I’m told the staff still likes their chances with both prospects.

**This is the final official visit weekend before the dead period and recruits begin signing next Wednesday. The only scheduled visitor at the moment is DE Khris Bogle, who is making his second OV to Coral Gables. While I’m comfortable saying UF is leading here right now, Miami is getting the last shot at him to swing him back and anything can happen if you get the kid on campus for an OV. Follow who is and has been visiting with our OV tracker (linked here) pinned to the top of the recruiting board.

**2020 offers have been going out like crazy the past week or so as UM continues to really expand their board at all positions under Manny Diaz. Another new name to keep an eye on that UM is evaluating is OT Andrej Karic from Southlake Carroll High in Texas. At 6’5” 240, Karic is a rather thin, but athletic, tackle prospect with upside, and sports early offers from Michigan, Oregon, TCU, Nebraska, and Washington State.

(Karic Highlights)

I've never put too much stock into Miami's staff "feeling good about their chances" right after a player's official visit. I feel like it would take an absolute disaster on a visit for coaches to NOT feel good about their chances right after they spent the weekend having a kid's undivided attention. Anything short of the zipper scene from "There's Something About Mary" happening on the visit will probably make them "feel good about their chances".

And then they go back home. And the high wears off. And other coaches talk to them.

Can't speak for anyone else, but I always feel skeptical of the post-visit euphoria from the player and Miami's staff.

Maybe I've been burned too many times, but that's where I'm at now.

I didn't say that he doesn't. I don't know what he cares about. I have no idea why he might pick Miss. State. I'm not gonna use Miami's education advantage as a reason "losing him to Miss. State should never happen". Specifically for a kid who is practically in SE Alabama.

I’ve never been high on Emerson but would have been okay with the take. Not losing sleep over him though that’s for sure
I've been a fan from jump and thought in 2 years he could be a star and leader of the d so I won't be happy but I rarely lose sleep over recruits like you

the problem is, they don't play the same position.

Emerson is being recruited as a Striker.

A position of need very soon with really, only Romeo Finley and Derrick Smith currently on the roster in that role.

Keontra Smith would perform well at the striker position. If u watch his tape he is a natural. Plays well near the line of scrimmage, can cover in the pass game, and not afraid of putting on the hit stick.

Our DB recruiting is top notch guys!!
It’s not Elite but it’s FAR from bad or average imo especially within the last 3 classes. We got some gems. Then you add to the fact that the defensive back coaches actually coach that talent up and produce good results. I mean Hey would could be fsu and land a lot of highly rated guys but still rank 120th in pass defense... I’ll take bringing in good talent and coaching them up at a high level anyday :monkey-serious:

Had a bad feeling when Manny decided to run it back with these guys. Banda and Patke have zero credibility when they walk into a living room. Rumph at least played the game at a high level and has proven to be a developer of talent

I agree. What can Banda and Patke sell? Been saying it for years. Nobody has a resume worth a crap when going heads up against the top staffs in the country.

That doesn't help your argument. You keep speaking for Emerson like he thinks like you do. He probably doesn't care about what you care about.

Like I said, I'm guessing you've never been to Mississippi State.

Miami should never be losing recruit to that school.

Time for the staff focus all their time and energy on August 31st. Wouldn't even waste time on the 2020 kids at this point.

Make the UF game your recruiting pitch.

I see people still thinking the bag games dont exist, emerson played his hand smart in the bag game world, stayed quiet, that 2nd official visit to Miami forced the bulldogs to make that drop. On to bogle, now the gaytors all of a sudden lead over Bama, lol, and where was mullen before the gaytors, bulldog country, he knows Bama low balled bogle, so that's an easy pull for them.

Those complaining about coach rumph and banda, please STFU, its really pathetic that yall are more concerned about these nerd site class rankings and star systems than actual play on the field. Anybody criticizing 2 coaches that helped to produce the #1 pass defense in all of college football has got be stupid in the head.

To say banda doesnt have any credibilty is being insane, in the few short years tgey've been they got guys in the nfl that are producing and if #28 ends up in the 1st round, and jaquan or redwine end up in the 1st or 2nd round, case closed.

Outside of the obvious jalen Phillips and the change on Emerson this is a lot of fluffed up 50/50 guesses by Stephen. Not sure why anyone would get worked up when nothing has changed outside of Emerson who is an okay player.

Some perspective here fellas..if you add in Martin, Martell, Bolden and Phillips this is actually a really good class. Those are guys who will be here a while not just the one year rentals. Then we got Osborne, the DT from UCLA, Kennedy and potentially Hill as one year rentals. Manny will look to fill any open schollies after NSD with a one year rental OL or CB imo. So overall we will be very low in high school recruiting rankings but we infused our team with talent this offseason especially with the addition of getting JT4 back as well. Still a good close by Manny
