Thursday Recruiting Chatter - 1/31

Santana Moss was an ace.punt returner

Moss was nearly identical to Benjamin at PR. Their game was to run to the long side of the field then down the sideline by just out running everyone. Moss was slightly more skillful because his stride is shorter. Hester, Williams, and Parrish all had more wiggle. The best returners see the field and know where the holes are going to be. They don't just bolt to the long side of the field. Jeff Thomas could surpass everyone not named Hester this season at PR. Some of the plays he made towards the end of the season were just ridiculous.

This is a lie and you know it. To say he can only hang his hat on MJ is a lie. You better then this OG. Not sure why you personally hate Rumph so much but you gotta speak truth to power and leave the personal feelings out.
Is there any other assistant coach on the team where a group of fans desperately fight over how to give him credit for every kid on tne rooster? It’s his job to develop kids. He shouldn’t get applause for doing his job. Let’s agree he does it at least reasonably well. Okay. But it’s only part of his job. That’s reality. The job includes recruiting. And for a position (db) where we have 2! coaching spots allocated, the expectation for recruiting is even higher. So you can bang the drum all you want re how he coaches kids, but he’s also got to recruit. Some here think he can. Others not. But it’s not a retort to recruiting deficiencies that he can coach. He’s tasked with doing both.

How about the fact that the staff decided to go the distance with Bogle and will now have to endure the optics of a rival team coming in late and stealing him. Could have locked up Boykin. Again, thank goodness for Tate's little sister

Are we complaining our staff didn’t quit and got a talented player here on the last weekend before signing day?

We complaining because of “optics”?

Recruiting is all optics. We’re complaining that the defensive staff doesn’t have a top 5 recruiting class but they just gave us a top 5 defense

This year was a wash at the start. 2020 will be more revealing

LoL, Hester and Taylor were recruited by Coker. There is only one Devin Hester, period.

Miami has two stellar kickoff returners over the past 40 years--Tremain Mack and Hester. And only three stellar punt returners--Kevin Williams, Phillip Buchanon and Hester. We've had three guys who could really go after blocking kicks--Bubba McDowell, Mack and Hester.

Poor punting has been an anomaly and it is what stands out. Vogel, O'Donnell, Botts, Bosher were all very good. Placekickers the same with Badgely, Wieclaw, Bosher. Even guys like Collier did a good job returning punts. So did Berrios. Baxa was fine for a freshman. 75%. Should get better.
SeanTay was 1st recruited by Butch in 99 when Sean was a HS Jr.....Butch realistically closed the deal in 2000...

My sense watching Thomas is he knows how to lose a guy and has the pure speed to be dangerous in turns, but I’m less convinced he sees the field the way the great returners do. Hester would feel where space was going to open up, and moderate his speed to time his burst for the perfect moment.

we all know that we would've complained had we not gone after bogle for a second visit. the staffs job is to go after the best guys no matter what. its our job as fans to ***** about these kids based on their social media account

Moss was better than TB.....Moss was similar to Kevin Williams...

This makes zero sense. For two years, all we heard was that UM had no chance because Spermstain was an LSU lock. Turns out he clearly wasn’t.
Nick Saban himself could have been coaching CBs at Miami and no way Surtain was coming. This isn't rocket science. It's as simple as the decision having to do with the program and not the position coach.

As I recall Taylor almost flipped to Clemson or at least was strongly considering it. A kid like Taylor was going to be on everybody's radar. He was built like a man as a 16-year. I also recall he wasn't in the top 5 of Dade County football players his senior year. That in its own right is insane. I know he was a Gulliver kid his senior year and he won states in the small division, but he was a man among boys. We may never see another kid like this coming out of Miami. Was becoming truly the most dominant and intimidating NFL safety since Ronnie Lott and at Sean's size he was going to surpass Lott.

Raymond had been on him for 4 years. Dad is from New Orleans so Surtain had family in Louisiana. LSU was clearly the more likely destination. However, he was never an LSU lock. My thought was that was the presumption. Alabama had been recruiting him for at least 2 years. If you remember Clemson popped out of nowhere at the end and he took an official there the week before he officially visit Miami.

Not only was I friends with Sean...but he's without a Doubt...the most Naturally Gifted FB player in UM History....with Eddie Brown close behind...

And Lott was a CB his 1st 6+ NFL yrs....Atwater was more SeanTay-ish than anyone...although Chancellor (who idolizes Sean) was Freakishly similar...

Win more games consistently or pay. Maybe do both. That is how it is done. This Rumph/Banda talk is tired. There are gonna be nine(10 if you count Finley) 4-star DBs on the roster next year for a program that has won 10 games only once since 2003. Get over it. You aint getting elites at premium positions like DB with a track record like that. All this talk of getting an ace recruiter there is laughable. You're not an ace recruiter if you're not winning. Particularly when your competition is always Alabama, UGA and LSU and the SEC team in the state.

Moss will give both a run for their money. Everybody remembers Santana as a sprinter. He was the state champ and Big East champ as a triple jumper. LoL, and Butch got him to Miami on a track scholarship. Another rule change.

When some of us kept pointing out he’s the worst recruiter in UM history. Same reason every time he gags on a recruit the same dimwits have to emphasize how bad Banda is.

Rumph must have fed his loyal group of CIS sycophants some strong draw leg soup because they will kill their own mommas before they allow anyone to criticize Rumph.

If Rumph is the worst in UM history than Panda is a micro-close 2nd

I think he’s getting better at seeing the field. Nobody is Hester dude.
