Three Reasons Butch is Out

1. The NCAA is a shell of its former self. A bully that we, UM, helped to expose for the cowards they really were. I don't think they're itching for any more fights. They just want to sit back and collect $.

2. If Butch wasn't issued a Show Cause ruling from the UNC crap then any school is free to hire him without having to worry about the NCAA.

Except.....Butch was cleared in all the UNC Academic scandal.

It reads: "This is to confirm that former University of North Carolina head football coach Paul "Butch" Davis was not alleged to have been involved in any violations of NCAA legislation in the University of North Carolina Case (Case No. M357 / Infractions Report No. 360, March 12, 2012)."

Except that newer allegations seem to point to the fact that he DID know of these joke classes, and potentially even suggested that players take them.

All of us who went to college knew the "under water basket weaving classes" to take to pad our GPA's. Knowing that classes were a Joke and directing kids to take easier classes is different than knowing that kids weren't doing the work required for those classes.

It is not against the rules for a Coach to be more concerned about keeping his players eligible than making sure they are taking the most challenging course load.

You think Nick Saban is making sure that Johnny is not taking joke classes and advising him on his course work.

People keep clinging to this "but the NCAA cleared Butch" notion are ignoring the bigger reality.

UM suffered tremendously over the Shapiro NCAA scandal and embarrassment. The administration and BOT saw it as a huge black eye. Its one reason they extended AG and really liked him, because he was squeaky clean and presented a very clean image of the program.

Butch is tainted. There is NO way anyone can avoid that. The media cannot mentioned Butch without bringing up the UNC fraud case. People also tend to forget he was the HC during the John Blake fiasco at UNC. In the world of public relations and media, Butch has a negative/sleazy stigma attached to him. This is made INFINITELY worse by the fact that UM is on probation with the NCAA. Hiring an HC that was fired during a huge NCAA scandal at another school would generate a lot of bad press for UM. There has now been at least one notable player that has come out and accused Butch of having known about the academic fraud, and even provided a quote of Butch saying "If you wanted an education you should have gone to Harvard". Butch has all but admitted he made the statement and has tried to spin it as "it was taken out of context". But anyway you spin that, when added to the heap of negative crap around his time at UNC, it further makes him very difficult for anyone to hire.

And then you have the fact that many around UM still see Butch as an opportunist that publically lied and bolted and burned bridges at UM upon his departure. This may actually be the LEAST important issue here, but its still an issue. For people who may not care about football as much, if they see Butch as a snake, or someone untrustworthy and duplicitous, they aren't going to hire him.

I think people need to get real about the Butch situation. Yes, he is ABSOLUTELY the best HC option we have right now in a perfect world. I would love to have Butch back. But Butch has made too much of a mess for himself over the years, and given UM's current situation, and what went down over the Shapiro mess, I think its HIGHLY unlikely that Butch would be seriously considered for the job. I hope Im wrong, but I think people pining for Butch are just setting themselves up for major disappointment.

Pop quit hotshot. The media is going to dislike Miami no matter what we do. Who gives a *****! We're going to fire three Head Coaches in less than a 10 year span. Hire the best available candidate in Butch. Davis had an impeccable academic record at Miami in the late 90s. Miami will only thrive with Butch as the HC again.

And if the rumours are true that Miami would consider Mario as HC, they sure as **** should forget the fact Butch moved onto the NFL 15 years ago.

This ^^^^ How can people forget that Davis came in when Miami was under some very tough sanctions. The Death Penalty Sports Illustrated cover. Went from rock bottom to building the best college football team of all time. All with impeccable academic record. Like Archer says the administration was jerking Davis around after what he did for Miami. Davis is the best man for the job. Look what he built at NC. Put some studs in the NFL. Fire this clown Golden and and his clown car and get on with some real Miami football. What the **** are they waiting for?
