I think there is some credence to it, but not sure if I agree with some of the comments that this supports the direction towards a 24 team CFP.

The talent parity point is correct, the sport has really never been this competitive thanks to NIL and the portal. There is no rational argument for the 24 team playoff other than for mid SEC teams to feel good that they went 8-4 and played a "playoff game" instead of the Belk Bowl. It's truly the dumbest idea that the sport has ever put forth lol

I would expect that more conference games has a large impact since there are fewer patsies being scheduled. Especially this time of year.

There is also a minor effect caused by the shortening of the games by the rule changes to clock stoppages.

The recruiting game has completely changed the last 5 years. WAY more goes into being a head coach than before. Asset management is the name of the game now.

Did you get a guy discounted in high school and develop him? Or did you pay up for a portal guy and did he live up to the billing?

The next wave of great head coaches will be the guys who understand the GM side of the job more than just Saturdays.

The days of the big name teams automatically dominating 10/12 regular season games because they have all the good players is over.

TV revenue is the reason to increase the number of playoff teams

He might be on to something but this analysis is nonsense. At least do weeks 1-6 sample sizes for this season and a decade ago. The information is available…
I have 2019, weeks 0-6 were combined 51.9% of fbs vs fbs were 11 points or less. 2026 week 0-6 is 56.5%. This is closing line medians across diff books.

Now I'm sure Bud Elliot will explain why and how 3 or 4 teams were able to hoard all the talent,I'm going to seat and wait for it.
