Thoughts from the bench press

It’s no Fireside Chat but here goes:

I’m sitting here repping out more plates than most of you guys knock out at Thanksgiving dinner and I couldn’t help but think of the Canes on the eve of our season opener

This has been the longest off season of my life as a Canes fan. The only way to remove the stench of failure is to get back under the squat rack and get after it again. Well we’ve been sitting here tasting the bite of a **** sammich for 9 months and I’m ready for it to be gone

I’m ready to down my Kool aid and start talking why we are gonna shock some people this year IDGAF

1. Dawson/OL/Running backs

I know people hate the thought of “bro-style” and so do I, but this isn’t bro style. If you can run the ball you can beat anyone. Teams will have to respect the run primarily because we won’t be trying to OUT FIZICAL the other team from a phone booth. Not only is our line massive and talented this year, they’re fast. This isn’t some overweight Al Golden group, these guys can get out there and dominate people at the second level. Check out Jerrick Gibsons highlight tape and watch Francis Mauigoa running stride for stride with him. There might not be an Edge/McGahee/Frank back on the roster, but we can get the production we had with guys like Homer/Deejay.

2. TVD

Going back and watching his old games lighting it up all he needs is a tiny opening and he will make the throw. If teams want to dare him to best them, they’re gonna pay for it. While there isn’t a Charleston Rambo just yet, one will emerge. I expect X to do major damage when the linebackers and safeties cheat up to stop the run, and guys like Colbie and Harrell are going deep. I expect X to dominate the team in YAC yards and feast.

3. Guidry/DL

One of the only great moments of last season was watching Marshall push Notre Dame around despite being undersized massively on the DL. I literally sat there and thought “my god I wish we had this DC”. Watching his DL be disruptive and aggressive but also not to the point of leaving his CBs and safeties out to dry, especially on 3rd and LONG had me longing for that type of defense. Now enter guys like Leonard Taylor and Reuben Bain. Mesidor is gonna hold it down and be the MVP of the line though he may not get the stats, he’s gonna allow these young freaks to eat

4. UPS

What can Brown(s) do for you? Well for us they’re gonna give enough time for those dudes up front to get home. We haven’t had a wow factor DE in a couple of years and despite good sack numbers last year, we never really felt like a pass rush threat. I expect the havoc to lead to guys like Kam ball hawking on the back end. Damari Brown got lost in the Cormani fiasco but landing both of those guys was an absolute coup for this defense

5. Kam

I will admit his All American selection was a bit of a shock to me but when you look at our successful seasons in the past the safeties are ALWAYS a prominent part of it. Whether it’s Ed or ST or even the combo of JJ and Redwine, causing turnovers in the defensive backfield is what Miami football does. Kam is unquestionably the leader of the secondary and we couldn’t be in better hands. We need to send him off in style before he goes on to a long, distinguished NFL career

If you made it this far, I appreciate it. I’ve had a lot of preworkout and deer velvet. We’ve been fighting like brothers and sisters here all off-season and it’s time to turn that on to the opposing teams.

Afterall, it’s a U Thing and other people just don’t understand
Bro listen....... I appreciate that you are lifting and staying in shape but you need to understand something. If you are just getting back into it please don't overwork yourself. Start small then work your way up. Don't try to outdo yourself man just start light. 650 lbs is plenty! Start with that.

Yoooooo LFG. Nicely done. I normally don’t bench its(dumbbells just better for development for me) but I’ve been testing out a new supplement (sadly it’s OTC legal stuff) for a company so I’ve been focusing on bench 225 reps. Started at 17 now I’m up to 25. I’m about 215-220 pounds and 43 years old. I’ve put it up on Instagram in my stories before (I do a ton of social media content for the supplement industry)
25x225??? I thought I was strong when I did 5 reps of 225 but I was 167 lbs back then. That was a little over 20 years ago. Great job man! You're a beast doing that at 43. I was 34 when I was into lifting. I know I need to get back to it but I'm 55 now so it's going to be tough sledding at first lol.

@JHallCanes you are posting what I've been thinking. Every day, this team seems more settled and bought in. The Dawson/TVD relationship is the real deal, and our QB is ready to bust out a great season. You know stuff is good when Mario is smiling. We're going to cause some damage.

I'm circling A&M. Petrino is the wild card here. He could humble us real quickly. But if Guidry is the guy I think he is, we'll cause enough disruption and force enough turnovers on defense to give TVD a chance to settle into the game and show us what he's capable of. We win that one, and watch out.

He certainly is.

And I thought his Petrino Motorcycle Riding School was going so well.

Just so everyone is aware @JHallCanes does curls in the squat rack.

Gonna need a spotter for this one

@BoxingRobes gonna warm up with a lot of this

Most everything I do is focused on longevity. I’m not on TRT or anything yet and have never messed with PEDs but I’m trying to keep what I have for as long as possible

Shameless plug but I’m dropping a line of supplements in the next few weeks focused on long term brain health and protection, hopefully a way to combat cognitive decline

Supplementation gets a bad rap in a lot of circles, and for good reason, but there is some really cool stuff out there especially for people trying to maintain what they got

I’ve got good genetics though my parents are still in great shape in their 60s and 70s

Would love to hear more about the line of supplements you’ll be dropping mate in the next few weeks.

My man. Big passion project for me. Long story short years back I started creating educational content (mostly on Instagram) trying to help myself and others understand if supplements were junk or not. The more research I read, the more I learned I started to see a lot of promise for things like cancer, Alzheimer’s, dementia etc. You’re not allowed to talk about curing or treating diseases but the data is there.

Anyway people have been wanting me to release a line for years but I just don’t have the passion to make yet another preworkout or protein but I put together something pretty cool for like a daily multivitamin for your brain. If you’re on IG I have the whole process documented (supplementsnoop is my handle)

But I’ve been a consultant in the industry for years so I’m excited to finally launch a solo project. I had aimed it at people like my parents but it’s something anyone can use tbh

I can shoot you a DM or hit me up anytime

I need proof you're benching . Send pics of any hot females there
I somehow missed this post.

I’m just gonna say this: the place I lift at is a hardcore-ish gym (it’s actually not but it gives off that vibe) and there’s several colleges in the area

I’ve spent most of the summer pulling my hat down over my eyes and trying not to end up on some chicks TikTok page

It’s a sad day when college starts back up again but it makes the workouts easier

@JHallCanes my guy, how you lifting these days? I tore my acl skiing in January. Underwent surgery in February. Feeling pretty **** good right now. In fact, squatting now more than just before I got injured. Back on Wendler's 5-3-1 for the first time in a long, long time. Trying to get back over 300 again. I had scaled back after I herniated two discs but it's time I get back there again. I don't ever foresee myself hitting 385 like long ago but I'd like to get back into the 300 club.

My man! The thought of having to take that much time off and rehabbing terrifies me. Good to hear you are on the mend. Ive been working around injuries for a while but nothing super serious just have bone on bone action going on in my hip. Scar tissue with the ball out of socket but I don’t want to have the surgery since it’s manageable

I feel pretty dang good as well. Just made some adjustments but after leaving my career and getting my own businesses off the ground I’ve had more time to get some sleep for the first time in my life and get an actual lower stress routine in

Cool part is man there’s so much amazing equipment these days the whole “free weights are the 🐐 “ vibe is kinda dead

My right shoulder hurt immensely just reading that.

If its any consolation, I've had a couple friends do the hip surgery thing, and they've both recovered [surprisingly] really, really well. Its sounds like that surgery and the recovery has really progressed in the last 15-20 years.

Yeah a friend of mine he is the CEO over at BPI, he’s from Miami, he just had it done and he’s back on the grind right away

Ya know the Fitness Thread actually was the springboard to pretty much everything I do these days. Remember we were all using Champion chocolate protein? I remember reading the label and was like man is this stuff even healthy?

Long story short I got heavy into the research and formulation/quality of supplements and built out a platform around it. Companies started paying me to formulate and go through compliance etc

Pretty wild when I think about it now
