Oh what? You thought we were taking the week off??
**** THAT. We’ve got goals baby. There are no weeks off.
We aren’t those flabby ***** that only go to the gym in April because they realize beach season is around the corner. We don’t get in shape for some embarrassing photo shoot your wife scheduled where you gotta go apple picking or some ****.
When you are singularly focused on a championship, there are no days off.
ITS MOTHA****IN BENCH DAYYYYY
Gameday Weather:
Wet bulb 100%
It’s not raining but
This week will be a little different. Other than hate watching FSU Virginia what we need this week is to reflect, fix, and move forward.
So let’s take a bit of team stock up stock down and see where we can step up:
Stock Up
Defensive End: Listen this just cannot be overstated. I was screaming at a brick wall last year saying Bain didn’t somehow become a bad football player, and Mesidor was being horrifically misused but even I couldn’t have envisioned this start. Opposing OLs have looked like the Louisiana levees trying to stop the inevitable. Best course of action for a QB is evacuation.
I disagreed with Bain being a DT. Like the AIDS version of John Holmes 90% of his weight is below the waist and making him gain weight all going to his gut was never the move.
Mesidor spent all of 2024 being the best wingman ever. He took the 200lb fat chick home from the bar (or 350 for Paranos) so his friends could eat. Bless him for that.
Linebacker: Listen I’m not claiming this is the Bermuda Triangle. Not even saying this is Shaq/Pop Belly, but this was a terrifying group last year (in the bad way) and now they are out there making plays. Chase Smith is playing inspired ball and Toure is looking like a 3rd DE on the field at times. It’s good enough and they are trending up bigtime. Much like the first stripper on stage on a Tuesday night, what they lack in talent they gotta make up for with enthusiasm
Left side of the OL: Pancake needs to stay healthy. Period. Bell has taken a step up but for PFF bros Pancake has graded out a bit better than Bell. When he’s in there (mostly) the left side of the OL is better. Bell has cleaned up some of the issues of last year and is just a behemoth of a human being
Clean it up
OL penalties: not too worried here. Teams are desperate simulating snap counts but also our guys just need to be better especially from the center to the RT. We are good but we can be better. Right side also completely whiffed on what would have been a huge wide open TD to Daniels against UiF
Brockermeyer last week had some Tommy Boy in him
Dylan Day (STs): we missed two amazing opportunities to bury UiF deep in their territory last week. With the way the defense was playing these could have been safeties eventually, or certainly TDs based on field position. Good on Day for being 99% of the way though. Pouring rain and a wet field can do it too. He was close and we can do better
Some AJ Highsmith awareness on those punts
Verdict;
Plenty of nitpicking to go around. There’s some questions that won’t be answered until we play meaningful games on the road and in November
But so far so good
Guys like Toney and Marty Brown have been better than I expected while guys like Jordan Lyle and JoJo Hoffa should give the offense a boost at some point
Let’s get healthy. Let’s work. Let’s get better boys.
