Thomas has been moved to Z

About time.

Now all they need to do is shorten the WR rotation so it includes Thomas, Berrios, Richards, Langham. No mas.

we have 5 wr that can go deep at anytime... No way VT can play man coverage all game..

Really? I count 2-3, max.

Ahmmon, Berrios, Thomas, and Harley easily.

Berrios is not a field stretcher. Harley can be but has not shown it (yet).

His best 40 time was in the 4.4's. He can be a field stretcher too.

My eyes and his play say otherwise

Harley got Wally Pipp'd

Thomas was wide open everytime he ran a slant against UNC. Rosier missed him time and time again.

Berrios can be.. Guy has stepped up HUGE this year.

Berrios has caught deep passes before but he's not a field stretcher???

Should have been his primary position from the beginning. If you look back at old threads, this was going back and forth for months. Was told repeatedly he was built for the slot and would likely play there. Then he came out in Fall camp and Harley was placed outside while Thomas was battling some injuries and getting mostly slot looks.

Basically, between sticking with Berrios outside last year and initially putting Thomas inside this year, I think we've at least temporarily (for whatever reasons/excuses people want to provide) wasted time where guys might be optimal elsewhere. FWIW, I think Thomas can play inside just fine, too. But, he brings some great stuff outside as well.

From March:

- My biggest thing is you DO NOT pigeonhole these types to the slot. Sure, they can and will do well there, but we'd hope to see these guys both at slot and flanker.

- Understand your point, but there's a lot of talk about keeping Thomas inside at slot. Think it'd be a shame. All speculation until we see where he lines up in Fall, anyway.

Put him near the boundary, put him in the slot, put him in the backfield again. Just get him isolated in man coverage and get him the ball in space.

Thomas has been playing the Z position in certain situations for a few weeks. They're in the film review if anyone wants to look back and see them.

He hasn't been slot only for a while. Being moved full-time is true, though.

He's certainly not the typical body type for that spot (think Cager), but he's simply a better player.

There is more to getting separation than speed, and Thomas has it all. For a true frosh, wow.

Whatever limited snaps occurred seem to be mostly after Harley went down. But, I guess we'd need a snap count to confirm.

Again, if we peek toward the current NFL, the size prototype for flanker has completely evolved.

I don’t think he’s a consistent deep threat but you can’t deny he’s had some big plays deep last couple games. One he wasn’t able to dive for and the one last week he did get

No doubt he’s made some plays this year, my good friend. Just can’t take that leap to call him a deep threat. Whatever, splitting hairs.

Totally agree, splitting hairs. He’s not a burner but he’s a good route runner that can get separation.

Either way, there’s no doubt we’ve got plenty of firepower to beat Bud Foster. Question is, do we execute? Can’t wait.

Berrios has definitely proven that he can play wherever needed, but his speed is the difference between a first down and a touchdown. On th play where he made a diving catch, if he were a 1/4 step faster, he's still running and doesn't need to dive. Not being critical at all, just pointing out that, though he can stretch the field, his speed doesn't seem to make him the "homerun" threat that Thomas is.
