Thomas Brown to join staff

We have a 5 mil budget I think.

Plenty of money to go around (maybe.)

Yall acting like we are bringing in some HS coach to be a position coach just for recruiting purposes.....McClendon, Lilly, and Thomas Brown are upgrades to our staff.....these moves make me believe that the only staff that will be retained will be Larry Scott and Hurlie Brown. Im perfectly fine with that.

i think Hurlie deserves it. they may give it to scott to reward him. Im fine with scott or kehoe at OL. Kehoe has put kids into the nfl recently that. recruited well too.

He hasnt earned 600k a yr is what im saying. I want Richt to hire top guys, not guys with 4 yrs of experience as co-oc. Idc how "organizational" in naturr you think it is.

The one year Brown was at Marshall he coached a former walk on to a 1,000 yard season. Grooms and Stew Butler did good things as Talliafero's backups as well. In addition to what he's done at Wisconsin and Georgia. I think it's a great hire and definite upgrade over Ice. Like the Hartley hire as well. Passionate, hard worker who loves what he does. Hopefully now we can reel in B Mac and knock this DC hire out of the park.

jesus Christ FullyERicht you sound like a flaming ****got porsting in this thread... COmplaining about the hiring of a running back coach? Richt is caling the plays who gives a *****? about Running back coach? He is bringing in people who he knows their intelligene and knows their work ethic... STop ****ging up the board because we didnt get Brown...which has nothing to do with this hire..... You mentioned 2 Defensive Coordinators and your having a heart attack that we idnt sign them..... Jesus Christ mane come off the ledge

Wait you guys thought Richt was going to hire some all star coaching staff and then turn into Nick Saban or Harbaugh? Lol. Richt has been doing this a long time and he is what he is. Let's hope he can get over the hump at Miami.

Ok my question would be how exactly he will get over the hump? Like people assume bc he is wearing orange and green it will just "happen".

Additionally, all we heard for weeks is how we were going to spend on an elite staff. "Huge budget". "500 texts".

OK. He'll never get over the hump here because he didn't hire the assistants you approved of.

From rusty Mansel Uga 247
"I am told he is getting a Co-Coordinator title and a salary around or above 600K with a 3 year deal at Miami with CMR
That is a MONSTER deal for Brown.
Great Coach, Great person
There will be a lot of people in line to coach RB's at UGA can bet that.."

600K for a glorified recruiter is a huge waste of money. Instead of worrying about getting his ex players paid, he should have spent that cash on Don Brown.

If they have money to blow, who gives a ****?

I agree, but the quote starts off by "i am told..."
We'll see.

I am totally amazed how we believe that some RB coach is going to stop us from reaching our goal.

Exactly who the ***** hires an experienced running backs coach? If youve been a runnig back coach for 10 years then obviously nobody believes that you can be anything else... and your lacking at something.. I dont get what OP is thinking..RB coach is a stepping stone in every program to something else..

Indeed. Those were 2013 numbers for Frank Wilson and Cameron. Here's the link Salary Talk: LSU's staff leads nation - Tiger Tracks

I just did a check of what the running backs coach at Alabama and LSU are bringing in. Burton Burns at Alabama is getting $337,000 dollars per year in salary. LSU's Frank Wilson is making $616K. He also serves as recruiting coordinator/cough cough bagman. Wilson's salary places him at 18th in the nation for all D1 assistant coaches. Cam Cameron makes $600,000 as OC at LSU. Burns has stops at Southern University, Tulane, and Clemson over a long period of time. Wilson coached at Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Tennessee before arriving in Baton Rouge. If we're giving Brown $600,000 then I believe his responsibilities really will be larger than just coaching running backs and then you do wonder what exactly will he be doing.

I personally could careless that Richt hired a former player or coach or as it is in this case a former player and coach, but I do raise a smart eyebrow when I see such a large salary being mentioned for a RB coach who last year made less than half of that ($275K) and the year before made roughly a third of that ($215K).

I am happy we got Richt, but he'll be scrutinized like every other college coach in America.

Cam Cameron is among the highest paid OC's in the nation (and stealing every penny apparently). He's not making $600k, not even close to that amount. Try over a mil.

I'm not going to second guess a single one of Richt's decisions. He can hire/fire whomever he wants. I'll judge him by how happy I am after each year's FSU game.

For those hating. Sorry don Shula and Nick Saban weren't available to be position coaches for us

Everyone hates the hire but nobody has any reasonable suggestions on who else it should have been

They are hating richt for bringing back an old friend but they wanted butch to bring back Don soldinger.. Smh

Great position coaches don't move laterally they get promoted. Brown has proved he's the goods. Moved from Presbyterian to Marshall, Wisconsin, and Georgia in 4 years and is only 29. How is he not qualified to coach rbs?

If it was oc definitely but richt is calling plays so you're saying he's not qualified to coach running backs when he has a proven track record of doing so?

watch his coach on tape. he is a smart guy. Give me a break. these fans forget our last two rb coaches had no experience with offense prior to being hired. Apparently our fans wanted golden fired but his staff kept completely in tack.

Show me a coach who has been a position coach for 15 years and I'll show you an average coach. He lacks leadership skills and/or career drive. Example: Art Kehoe

Thomas would not have risen from Presbyterian to Georgia in four seasons is he wasn't a talented coach. He knows what offense Richt prefers to run. He probably gets 'running game coordinator' in his new title, and some more money.

Successful executives, and I count successful HCs in this group, often hire young, aggressive, junior executives because these hires work hard to move up. This often is people they know, but so what?

But Richt has no pull

Suckers
Offering a 29 year old dude with limited coaching experience a $600k salary and co-OC title versus the likely $300k and RB coach title at UGA isn't really "pull". He's getting a huge raise and big upgrade in job title.

Brown will be singing this all the way to Bank of America (**** I though AG stuck up Miami for some cash for D'Onofrio & Coley but apparently Richt is showing us it is trully done)

Hahahahahahahahahaha @ some of our fans; who I assume are casual football fans. Just looking at some of these post; cot**** ya'll will cry bout anything, won't u?

So let me get this str8; when we hired a HS coach w/ no collegiate experience as a member of the coaching staff, it was a great hire b/c of what? "Ties to the community?" How's that working out for our recruiting? But now, we actually hire a coach who's coached RBs for the past several years on the collegiate level, at power 5 schools, and it's a nepotistic bad hire?? Lol! Yeah OK; I'll make sure to save this thread and come back to see how many become chameleons and change their "opinions" when the season start. Smh.
